Paul's libertarian stylings and campaign of strict interpretation of the Constitution has earned him an unorthodox band of sign-carrying supporters. They frequently interrupted TV reports of the event and at one point, Romney's Illinois chairman, state Sen. Dan Rutherford (R-Chenoa), ripped a sign out of one Paul supporter's hands and threw it on the ground.

Why was this guy not torn limb from limb. Taking a sign from someone's hand has to be assault or theft or both.

Was anyone on the board at the event and witness to this?

Wow, that last paragraph should have been exploited a heck of a lot more and explained a little clearer.

I like how not one single GOP chairman voted for Ron Paul on the informal vote the day before and he still came in 3rd among votes.

That last paragraph had nothing to do with the rest of the article. It's as if he just wanted to say something negative about Ron Paul. Or maybe he was trying to show what jerks Romney's hiring.

WOW, this can't be tolerated. He should make a public apology ASAP. We can get some national press exposure out this incident.

Be careful about the national exposure. If those particular RP supporters were being obnoxious and ill-mannered it could backfire on us.

Is that really a big deal?

I find it quite funny to be honest

When you are trying to take over a party and throw the bums out, you can expect them to react like such. Hell a fist fight is going to break out a some point if we get over 10% in national polls.

It very may have been the latter, because if she was really trying to diss Paul or his supporters, she could have said a lot worse than unorthodox. I mean seriously, she all but said the he was a constructionist, which is a VERY good thing to conservatives.

She didn't do us any harm in this article. In fact, I think she did us a favor. Letting everyone know what a jerk, Romney's people are.

is that the same event a ron paul supporter started screaming fascist and cussing when they tried to take his sign away???

i think the article is as anti romney as it is anything

I really think when supporters are out spreading the message, you need to try and put yourself in Ron Paul's shoes. People who know nothing about him will instantly take your actions as a direct reflection of the candidate. Being over-zealous occasionally (though innocently) can cause "blowback" to lay-people who only passively follow politics or who have no background knowledge.

I've found that wearing a big smile, asking lots of questions and not being draconian about any one view is the most conducive to making those unaware of Dr. Paul more receptive to his message.

I dont know if the article is accurate or not, but it sounds like our supporters were being rude. Guys, there is a different between enthusiasm and annoying fanaticism

Learn from the Deaniacs, fanatacism does not win people over. But, this article was ambiguous. I think it reflects worse on Mitt Romney.

regardless of how the people acted, the man is a state senator...that position requires him to have some restraint no matter what people do.

I think the mans frustration is obvious. Maybe he knows something we don't.

I'm glad Ron Paul is a runner cuz he sure doesn't look like he could do much damage in a fist fight. Unless he's got an impervious "Liberty Suit" like a superhero or something.
