I can't believe they don't have to have our consent on. Cops are beginning using it in LA. If you fail...they can take your rights.

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Did anyone see the first episode of the season (sadly the last) of HBO's 'The Wire'. It was killer. The fine officers convinced a young suspect that a copying machine was a lie detector. Classic. 'The bigger the lie, the more they believe' said detective Bunk after that little exercise in creative police-work.

Like all software it has it's bugs and should never be used in a real case unless consented.

And what if you speak fluently at the same speed and pitch throughout a sentence the, that kind of software will be screw a lot of people.

The only upside is that it is not admissible:( in court....but who knows what will happen if they think someone is lying and they try to incriminate someone on a false positive.

I emailed the texas ACLU as well.

I want the Texas ACLU to be aware of the following:

http://www.wcbd.com/midatlantic/cbd/news.apx.-content-articles-CBD-2008-03-05-0020.html

Police are apparently rolling out this system in order to perform voice-based lie detection as a routine. This reportedly does not require consent.

I have re-posted the video on YouTube, in an attempt to document the video for liberty-sensitive citizens:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7CMOnjsJrg

I did a youtube search to see if there are any other videos about his technology and as of now there are only two videos posted with the tag "Layered Voice Analysis"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4c6Md3TgGCE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLJ_SKvzUD4

I fear that a McCain presidency will put the last nail in the coffin for liberty in this country and would like my Texas ACLU to investigate Layered Voice Analysis (LVA).

Yeah the reason I called LA ACLU personally is because when I called my state about it (NC) they said they were sure the LA chapter was working on it....I did not believe them...and I was right...so call your local chapters!!!

Use this device on Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz....and so on.

Bingo.

Any advances in "lie detectors" should be first tested out on the politicians.

Anyone who doesn't see the rational for this is quite simply insane.

It's ok for the Government to lie to us but not for us to lie to the Government?

That's some seriously messed up stuff right there.

All this voice stress stuff I think is partly bogus since many innocent people will get nervous if pulled over and be subjected to Unconstitutional searches as a result of being stressed.

Now when we get into non-invasive brain imaging and such then I do think that a highly accurate lie detector, or rather a Truth Machine, is very possible.

Start using them in courtrooms first, then on politicians, and only after they have been extensively tested there should businesses and such be allowed to use them to screen employees.

Or on a voluntary basis between groups/individuals signing legal contracts

But on private citizens going about their normal routines?

NEVER!

If you've never done so I highly recommend reading The Truth Machine by James Halpren.

It's available free online at his website here (http://coins.ha.com/ttm/).

"Subject is not sure."

Police man: "Did you kill your wife"
Man: "I'm not sure."

Reminds me of a great scene from the Stephen King movie "Needful Things"

Guy in phone booth in pouring rain talking to "satan", who has moved into a small town and set up shop to get people to start doing the evil.

"I just killed my wife. Is that wrong?"

"Hey, these things happen."

Oh, here's the trailer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107665/trailers-screenplay-E10708-310). Scene is at the very end.

Amazing what's on the intertubes these days :)

Name, rank and serial number is all you give them. Orwell was afraid of technology, but he failed to see that it cuts both ways. Things like these will soon be monkey wrenched by geeks with emitters hidden in radios. Anything that takes in your voice for analysis, can be spooked by another outside source. All you have to do is rattle the little discriminator chips in the 'lie detector'

Most times it is bluff from these cops. You have to realize that if you keep your cool, use your head, you cna make them think that you are their friends. Being a bit of a speed demon, I get yanked over a lot. I get almost no tickets because I talk my way out of them. I have had the LAPD at my doorstep when I had problems with neighbors. I kept them outside and frustrated for HOURS, all the while being nice and sweet, and telling them, 'No, you do NOT have a warrant'

They broke in anyway, but the level of frustration amongst them made their search VERY haphazard, and they wanted OUT of my place as quick as possible. They left empty handed, when if they had looked closer, there was some stuff that I would have had to explain.

Many ways to take your victories. Be clever, remember, they are not jack-booted thugs, they are civil service workers. They only get you if you make it easy for them.

Of course, a lot of that crap is why I escaped California with my family shortly after the riots. That place is a large looney bin.

YES INDEED!

And have it written down on a piece of paper or placard.sign. Hold it up to LAPD/LA Country the minute they come up to your vehicle...

HOLD THE SIGN UP to their FACE! 5th Amendment, I Remain Silent!

If they say you are being uncooperative and under arrest... give them the middle finger and and turn to other side of the sign (Give Me My F**KIN PHONE CALL!)

http://www.lvasolutions.com/software.html

This site says $16.5k for the software, but you will need to be "trained" (for a large fee) before they will install it. The training is 2 1-week courses for level 1 and level 2 training.

All you do is hit mute when your speaking and unmute when they speak its not atomic science any backwater cop can do it. My mic kicks ass too.

And 16.5k?? $1000 a year for tech support on a program that a toddler could use?? I'll stick to Yahoo answers :P... $500 to install?? Does it not come with an install shield wizard?? $2500 for an aged laptop that my old Acer could probably outdo...

You get the feeling that not many places will buy this.

great...just what we need. It says it can work off a recorded voice as well as a live one. We should use Bush and Cheny, Obama, Hillary etc... and everyone in congress and senate and put thier voices to it. I'm sure they have all been recorded to some extent. Use this on every elected offical!

Yep I agree. For a few grand, you could have millions of dollars in press, if the analyst were properly trained and had impeccable character it could be really interesting if the results were repeatable by other analysts.

Then how about a chipin to buy the technology, and run all of the speeches from all of the candidates, and post the results online?

It could change the face of politics if the technology progresses to the point where TV sets have it built in. Imagine watching the news or a televised debate with your own bullshit detector working in real time in a PIP fashion.

It could also make life interesting if phones ended up having the tech built in. Guys will have a lot harder time getting laid I think. lol...

Voice stress analysis will probably never be very accurate. Nevertheless, if they decide to use it, just be silent.
