Anyone with experience with AK optics?

I have a Century Arms Yugo M70, I want to mount a low power scope or reddot on it. I was thinking of a sidemount on the reciever. I've actually found little general info on line about it. If anyone has any tips it would be appreciated. I know alot of stuff for most AKMs don't fit the Yugo version so I wasn't sure if there was anything special needed. :cool:

The gas tube mounts with a large red-dot might be the ticket. Check with Cheaperthandirt.com and Tapco.

I would advise against drilling into the receiver because that is some tough metal; unless you intend to get a gunsmith or machine shop to do it.

The receiver cover mounts never worked right and are crap. Avoid them.

Best mounting is the side rail mounts that some AK's have on them like the ones from Romania. If yours does not have them there are some good AK smiths out there that can install the rail the right way. Using the rail you can quickly remove and put on the optics without a loss of zero. Personnally I do NOT use any type of optics on my AK's as their useful range does NOT warrant optical sights. They are at best a 300 yard gun. Also depending on ANYTHING that takes batteries or has wires inside of it is a good way to get dead in combat. While I will admit the newer optics have extended battery life there is also Murphys Laws of Combat.

Tantal is an awesome guy to deal with (any gun forum will back that up)

He stocks all of stuff so none of this waiting for it to come from Belarus BS. He has the best optics in my opinion and at a fair price with great service. Though I have only bought 1 thing from him (1P21 scope for my PSL) I would order from him again. He also sends a translated manual along with the original which is in russian.

I would get a Kobra from the guy Tantal (above). It mounts on the side. I sold my AK (getting another better one soon), and when I get my new one I'm putting a Kobra on it.

I had one called a PK-AS. It was a very nice red-dot. Bulgarian made I believe. I think Tantal sells them. Its side mounted, and its very fast acquisition. Also, if the battery dies, the dot goes black, so its still useable.
