Hello everyone. In less than 24 hours, we the Ron Paul Republicans
will do our duty to God and country and stand up for those who cannot
stand up for themselves. We will assert that we the people do really
mean it when we say we want a limited government that follows the
Constitution, spends responsibly, and does not deceive our brave men
and women into throwing away their lives overseas for delusions of
empire.

I hope you are all ready to do your part. It will take all of us. Do
not be one of the 5 votes that holds us back.

Final corrections, answers, and things to watch out for:

o Some of you were told during early training that the chair cannot
vote except to break a tie. This is not true. The chair is a citizen
and always has the rights of any citizen, including the right to vote
and to make a motion. The chair is expected to act impartially and
_should not_ vote or make a motion if it doesn't matter for the end
result. If the vote is 4 to 2, the chair has no business voting. If
the vote is 4 to 3 and the chair sides with the 3, he can vote to
create the 4/4 tie. At that point the motion fails, there is no tie
breaker, and the people in the room can try again with another motion.

o Some of you may also have been told that the doors close once the
convention starts and no one gets in. This is not true. Under state
law anyone eligible to participate in the meeting can join it at any
time until it has adjourned. They cannot vote on the motion on the
table when they walk in, but they join immediately after that is
resolved.

o Several have asked what they do if they the only person there, or
it's just them and their spouse, etc. If that happens you take the
packet and go through the motions, even if it's just you. Call the
meeting to order, vote yourself chair, secretary, and delegate, and
adjourn. You can do it in 15 seconds if you want, but you _must_ hold
the meeting. If this is how it goes for you, you probably want to
stick around another 30 minutes anyway to make sure if someone else
shows up they know they meeting already happened. Otherwise they will
hold their own convention and that's not good. DO NOT START before
7:30pm (in Tarrant County), and make sure everyone who was in the
building at 7pm has gotten a chance to vote and come participate, even
if you think you are the only one interested.

o Hopefully you have had a chance to meet the other Ron Paul
supporters in your area. If not, do keep in mind when you vote that
there may be some you don't know. No, we don't have a secret
handshake or a wink or any of that. We are the ones that support
individual liberty, low taxes, and an end to unnecessary wars.

o If you are short on people to go with you, make doubly sure you
campaign outside your polling place tomorrow for Ron Paul. Do it
regardless because nothing is better at getting more votes. If you go
to http://www.ocati.org/delegate/ you will find several flyers and
such you can print out to take with you. In particular, the file
called "DID YOU VOTE FOR RON PAUL.doc" is meant to be printed out and
copied and handed to anyone who tells you on the way out that they
voted for Ron Paul. The sample resolutions are there as well.

o You can bring your own copy of the packet if you want in case they
don't have one there. That happens sometimes. You can get it here:
http://www.ocati.org/delegate/txpacket.pdf

o Do not take forever submitting resolutions. It's best to pick one
or two and submit them based on if you think they will pass easily or
not. We will do most of the resolution work at the SD and state
conventions. If you take too long with them at your precinct
convention, it gives non-friendly people an opportunity to call their
friends to come be non-friendly to you as well.

Things to watch out for:

o People telling you that the meeting is already over at 7:13. They
cannot start it before 7:15. THIS IS TRUE IN DENTON COUNTY, OTHER
COUNTIES HAVE DIFFERENT TIMES. BE THERE AT 7 TO BE SURE.

o People telling you that you have to declare your preferred
candidate to be a delegate. They did this in Oklahoma and have hinted
at it here. You don't have to tell them if you don't want to do so.
Whether they vote for you if you don't tell them something is up to
them.

o Anything that claims you just write your name down for review to
be a delegate and don't vote on it yourself. The process we described
for you *is* the way it has to happen, even though many of the party
people probably don't even understand it.

o Resolutions intended to flag Ron Paul supporters. Never
compromise your standards, but if you're the minority and someone
introduces a resolution you don't agree with, try to stay out of it.
We'll sort it out at the SD and State conventions.

o People telling you if you voted early you can't participate. This
is a lie, flat out. As long as you voted in the Republican Primary
and are at the convention for the precinct on your registration card,
you are eligible.

If you encounter any of these or anything else you don't think is
correct, please call the FW HQ Grassroots line at 817-717-7853. And
please don't forget to call when you know your final numbers. Leave a
message if we don't pick up right away, we'll get to it. Email them
to me as well if you would. Please also take a notebook and ask the
chair to see the minutes after the meeting and copy them down. Ask
him to sign your copy when done.

Please also don't forget to take your yard sign with you when you go
to vote so there are more of them at the polling location. It
doesn't do you any good in your yard anymore.

Are lots of people having problems? At our county convention, we all became delegates. There were no motions, etc. It was just political speeches by locals. Ron Paul was never mentioned. McCain's name came up once outside of the room.

The precinct guy here told me that Republicans don't convene in my precinct (which he says is heavily Democrat). He told me there wouldn't be much point in showing up since there traditionally hasn't been any GOP conventions there. He's expecting a big Democrat crowd tonight.

I don't know if I should go. I don't want to be a delegate but if some RP delegate needs an extra hand tonight I don't want to let him down.

They used this line a lot. It's BS. They don't know what they are talking about. Just because the GOP conventions are small, because they don't play the same role the Democrat caucses play, doesn't mean they aren't critical.

I hope you went.

I actually became a delegate in a precinct in Austin. Fortunately we had the vote for delegates before the resolutions. I pissed off the 20+ people in there when I was the only one voting against their typical Republican bullshit resolutions.
