Question about banner brigades

I just found out that the local police were trying to quash the RP banner brigade last night.

From what I know, they said it wasn't allowed and equated it to panhandling??

I'm sorry I don't have more details - our group has someone checking with a civil rights attorney.

I was just wondering if there had been any issue with this so far anywhere else.

Hard to tell. They could have been violating some city ordinance like blocking the public right-of-way or disturbing the peace or something, but AFAIK they can't really stop you from just walking around with signs or passing out information. Seems like a serious violation of free speech if so.
