I'm not sure how these hearings normally work. RP just spoke for a few minutes, and this was before Bernanke spoke. My guess is that RP was the only one who requested to give a preliminary speech before the hearing started, and he will be on again to question Bernanke after he gives his testimony.

Not insulting your intelligence, just trying to hint to you you shouldn't bash because you're not seeing what you want on TV. You can watch a live, unedited broadcast if you wish.

Sorry for coming across so strongly, but I find it offensive you go down that route. How about before you go preaching this MSM conspiracy you actually take the meeting for what it is.

Ron Paul's presidential run is about the state of our economy as well. It's frustrating to listen to a crooked Fed chairman and a group of Congressmen who mostly don't understand that they're asking for inflation.

The problem that the federal reserve faces, is that this impending recession is hard to manipulate with fiscal policy. In some simple instances, manipulation of fiscal policy actually has its advantages, but when things get too complex, tinkering can actually make things worse - and often its compounded from previous decisions. The housing market is an example of the Fed's manipulations creating an eventual butterfly effect - with house prices down and commodity prices up, GDP growth is even LESS than the equilibrium than it would be were just one or the other the issue, As it stands, the housing market crash had coincided at a terrible time with a sharp spike in commodity prices. This means that the normal methods of "smoothing" will cause many negative unintended consequences.

This is a classic case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" - if they cut interest rates, consumption may rise, but savings will probably fall, and since savings is simply a time function of consumption/investment in many cases, it might actually hurt long run growth, rather than help it. This highlights the biggest problem with the fed - not that it is evil bankers trying to enslave the population, but that it is humans trying to manipulate an economy much more complex and nuanced than graphs and models would indicate.

02-27-2008, 10:51 AM

I think you're getting a bit out of line. I don't see anything wrong with people complaining about Ron Paul getting cut off. Every other Congressman was on television giving their commentary and as soon as it was Ron Paul's turn, every single station switched away.

Of course, this meeting is not the Ron Paul show. But it does tell you something about the media when the only person they cut away from was Ron Paul. In the Fox News case, they cut back to the meeting IMMEDIATELY following Ron Paul's speech.

I think you are looking at the wrong thing. People on here are not complaining about the meeting itself or people not getting a chance to talk. Ron Paul definitely had his chance to talk. The complaints are that the media chooses to air everything EXCEPT Ron Paul's time.

what im saying is that if mccain were there giving his 2 cents or if obama was there it would be all over the news and they would praise them for knowing whats going on and they would be praised for working toward finding a solution to this problem....people need to know that ron paul is there and he is fighting for them....true its not about ron paul right now but if we have someone whos trying to run for office it only makes sense to air something like this with his opinion....rather than spend their time on amy winehouses drug problems or paris hiltons herps.....so yes it is a conspiracy....do u think they want americans to kno how paul feels about the crashing dollar and the fact that WE ARE IN A RECESSION?? no....thats why they wont air him but theyll air everyone else speak?? yes everyone we can watch it live...we kno this because we search for ron paul and what hes been doing...the average american...the ones who dont know paul dont do this because they dont kno he exists....they rely on the media to give them their news....so yes im angry the media conspires to black him out....

Pleas see quote again because I didn't say that. I said he is 100% accountable for all his decisions.

Yes we'd still be in trouble (OBVIOUSLY) but at least we would be in a known recision and we would be liquidating the bad debt IF HE HAD MADE THE RIGHT DECISIONS.

INSTEAD, this idiot has us in limbo between catastrophic failure and slightly less catastrophic failure.

"New problems in the economy are popping up like a not very funny version of whack-a-mole"

Some lady busting on Bernake, classic!

Congresswoman Maloney I believe.

For some reason, whack-a-mole is one of DC's favorite analogies for anything from Iraq to monetary policy.

In DC, almost anything is either whack-a-mole or a perfect storm.

Take your pick.

Why did Congress always ask Greenspan about fiscal policy (Congress' job) instead of monetary policy (Greenspan's job)?

I am waiting for them to ask Bernanke about baseball steroids.

The bottom line is that he is 100% accountable for all of the decisions he has made since being in office and they have all been crap so...

Cinderella said "so yes it is a conspiracy"

This isn't a thread about that, it's about the meeting. Again, you can watch the hearing live and unedited.

Can you just watch the unedited live broadcast instead of trying to say that everyone is in a conspiracy against Paul? "Zomggg fox went to commercial before paul spoke they must hate him"

Do you think people in the MSM talk about when to cut to commericial?

Or do you think it's random?

If they talk about it, you know, conspire, then it's a 'conspiracy'.

These frickin committee members are so clueless. They don't even know what questions to ask. RP got bernanke to agree with him on some problems and the rest of the committee has almost ignored it. Not one of them have asked something referring to RP's ideas. This is just sad......

Did you miss the Newspeak memo #23148XY8?

Conspiracy and Conspire are no longer words that have meaning. They are just flags that say you are wacko now to the rest of the world. Everything is as it appears at face value or else you are insane. It is unimaginable that someone would think one thing and do/say another.

Geez... I thought everyone knew that.

Rick Santelli on CNBC is awesome. Every time they bring him into a conversation he rants about inflation and Fed mismanagement.

He just now said on CNBC "people may disagree with Ron Paul on politics or foreign policy, but here in Chicago when the traders heard him speak they were chearing."

That's not the exact quote, but that's the gist of it. He's at the Chicago Board of Trade where futures are traded. They are very interested in bond markets up there as well.

Did anybody see the CNBC analyst compliment Ron. Can't remember everything he said but the thing that struck me was, "when he started talking, the traders in Chicago started clapping." He also gave credit to Ron for being ahead of his time talking about the declining dollar

CNBC Ron Santana just said that when Ron Paul spoke the traders on the floor there started cheering him on with his talk that the dollar being devalued is the core problem!

He's a regular analyst on there and he has been complaining about the Fed cuts for several months. That's the first time I've heard him mention Ron Paul, though.

I thought it was great that he mentioned the Chicago traders "cheering" when Ron Paul spoke.

The day that Murray and his staff traveled to DC to tape the video endorsement (http://www.murraysabrin.com) by Ron Paul, near Ron's congressional office, we parked the car and as we got out and walked into a cafe, who was entering the Wachovia bank to withdraw cash but BEN BERNANKE!

This was on January 22, the very day that the FED cut rates by 75 basis points.

Murray went over and introduced himself, to the chagrin of the Secret Service guy there protecting Bernanke, and told him that he was running for the US Senate.

Watch this video for a recap - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbENPcFjVog

What these guys will do to Bernanke next year together will make him wish he never took the job.

Like Ron, Murray has been fighting the FED since 1976 - http://www.murraysabrin.com/federalreserve.asp

So basicly Bernanke admitted that inflation is going to follow oil? Nice. Given the war and everything else we can blame oil prices on, it doesn't seem they are going to stop the inflation any time soon since the neocons are persistent on 'staying the course' no matter how much the middle class and poor people suffer.

Bernanke is right on one thing. It's the responsibility on Congress to change our monetary policy. Harassing him isn't going to get it done. Congress are the ones that need to be harassed.

Is there some legal action that can be taken against these shmucks? Censoring a leading member of this House Banking Committee while he's speaking is beyond Orwellian. Something needs to be done.

I think over half the people here say anti-freedom, anti-property rights, anti-free speech, pro state controlled media (or "the people controlled") crap like this every time we talk about media.

How on earth these people think they believe in the Constitution or Ron Paul's message of freedom?

Just ban anyone that says anything like that ever again. They are fascists. (kidding about banning--but WHY do people think and say stuff like that? It's the most incredible thing I've ever heard.

I've got to agree with those who've pointed out your aggressive and unwarranted accusations.

Anyone who has been paying attention to the Presidential campaign is well aware at this point how Paul has been censored. The choreographed nature in which the mainstream media ignores him, particularly when on an issue such as this one there is no more educated and informed legislator in all of Congress, is a disgrace. It is also wholly undeniable.

They purposely deny an extremely large cross-section of the American populace from witnessing what Dr. Paul has to say, as they again did in this case.

Separately, if you're not an apologist for the censorship that has been undeniably implemented to keep Dr. Paul's voice out of the public eye then at the very least your attitude is bad and your manners poor...

As a presidential candidate, Paul's comments and questions to Bernanke should have been quoted all over the media today and addressed one of two ways:

1) "That guy Paul is crazy - did you hear what he just said to Bernanke?"
2) "Presidential candidate Paul is crazy like a fox - did you hear how he just took Bernanke to school?"

We all know #2 is how it went down.

To ignore a presidential candidate, who is a senior member of the Finance Committee, accusing the FED Chairman of immorally and purposefully causing inflation that is destroying our ecomony, is beyond belief. The only explanation is a purposeful media blackout. (I know, I'm preaching to the choir)

I looked through many MSM publications about the committee meeting today. It is all about Bernanke, Bernanke, Bernanke.

And yet Fox, CNN, and CNBC all broke into programming to cover 15 solid (boring) minutes of the Butts murder trial sentencing.

Stossel's "Give me a break" line comes to mind!
