View Full Version : The "Blame-America-First" Candidate?

I heard a Paulite call in to Mark Levin's show a few weeks ago, and suggest that he support Ron Paul because they have similar ideas about conservatism. Levin's response:

"First of all, you lied to get on the air, and second, you want me to endorse the "Blame-America-First" candidate? Ron Paul believes that we are responsible for the attacks against us. I can't support that sort of insanity."

This wasn't the only time I have heard this about Ron Paul. Lots of pundits call Dr. Paul the "Blame-America-First" candidate.

So I wrote a response (http://fearistyranny.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/neoconservatives-the-blame-iraq-first-crowd/) to those misguided souls, a moral knockout punch:

just because someone has a radio show or is on TV does not change the fact that they are morons

It would be nice if RP would choose his words a little more carefully. He is absolutely right in what he says, of course, but for many people who are hearing it for the first time it can come across as a blame America first mentality. It makes it very easy for idiots like Levin and Hannity to spin it in the worst possible way.

What is truly insane is not understanding history, not understanding how your actions have a direct impact on others and always believing that the actions of the United States are unquestionably perfect.

Levin and Hannity are the blame-America-firsters. They blame America and Americans for 9/11. They say Americans were too wimpy and isolationist and were not preemptively bombing enough of the world into submission--sorry, I mean not preemptively bombing enough of the world into "democracy."

Anyone who says the terrorists hate us for our freedoms is blaming America for the terrorist do.

What Ron Paul lacks is the ability to speak in a way that appeals to the TV-addicted masses.

What we need are candidates who have the same message but can sell it to the average voter.

Ron Paul is first and foremost an educator, not a salesman.

A good politician has to be able to sell the message in order to win, not just try and educate voters.

Yes, Neocons blame America first. They say we invited/provoked the attacks by being so darn free. That is why Neocons take their marching orders from al Qaeda.

Neocon Logic:

They hate us for our freedoms.
Therefore, they would not hate us if we were not free.
Therefore, the Neocons will save us by destroying our freedoms.

Those who can't/won't/don't distinguish between the country and the government are beyond reason.

"The true patriot must always be prepared the take back his country from it's government."

I am a bit disturbed by the fact that Levin accused the caller of lying to get on air... I sincerely hope it wasn't the case or it'd make us look bad...

What's sad is how many people buy into this line of thinking :(

It's a coordinated smear that probably caught on spontaneously with those types. It's a whole lot easier for them to say that than to analyse the facts and conclusions.

By your logic, I suppose the fact that one has to lie to exercise their first amendment rights on a radio show, makes Levin look like a hero?

I know which one looks bad to me, but then again, I don't consider myself to be an average American.

1) First Amendment doesn't apply to a private radio show so he's free to filter out and select callers he wants.

2) Even granting that he is a tool for doing so, this doesn't make uncommitted Americans think, "Wow, the caller knows something." More likely, they've decided that MSM was right in calling Ron Paul a kook because his supporters act like one.

The problem they tell me is, "when you blame America, you're just like a liberal"

I don't blame America, but I blame her foreign policy. However, neocons are statists... everything for the state, nothing outside the state. Therefor, to blame the foreign policy, it's the same as blaming her people. The people are the state, the state are the people, the foreign policy is the state, the people are the foreign policy... blah blah it never ends. It makes my head hurt to get into the Statist loop again... I was born there.
