McCain to Castro: Die already!
Sat, 23 Feb 2008

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain says he has high hopes that retired Cuban leader Fidel Castro will soon die.

"Fidel Castro announced that he would not remain as president -- whatever that means," Senator McCain said in a Friday town-hall style meeting in Indianapolis.

"And I hope that he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon," the 71-year-old candidate added.
McCain was referring to writer Karl Marx who established the principles of communism and died on March 14, 1883.
"Apparently, he [Fidel Castro] is trying to groom his brother Raul. Raul is worse in many respects than Fidel was," continued the Arizona senator.

Famed McCain temper is tamed

WASHINGTON - Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi, who has known Senator John McCain for more than three decades, on Wednesday endorsed Mitt Romney for president.
Cochran said his choice was prompted partly by his fear of how McCain might behave in the Oval Office.
"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran said about McCain by phone. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

McCain's run-ins with other Republican senators are legendary. Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa said in an interview that he was so upset by a McCain tirade that he didn't speak to him for two years. Grassley, who said he will make no endorsement, nonetheless says McCain is the most qualified among the five GOP candidates to be president.
