McCain used the promise of public funds as COLLATERAL for a loan. BY LAW, THAT solidifies him in the public financing system. Meaning he cannot spend more than 54 million in the primaries. He has already spent 49 million.

THIS WOULD CRIPPLE HIS CAMPAIGN!!

I dont think he really needs to spend much more then 5 million. Hell, he could probly get away with only spending 100 grand. The media gives him a free ride, and he could have this thing wrapped up by march 4th

True, with the free media he should be able to keep in the public eye, but he won't be able to run many ads in the upcoming states. It's still a plus.

How does this hurt him in the general election? Some artcicles on this say it will hurt his campaign in the general election. How will it?

Free media does wonders. In fact, it can take a no name person like Huckabee, who still has little real support and no money, and keep him in until the end.

McCain doesn't have to spend another dime. Neither does Huck.
