There has been talk about links to MSM / blogs in posts here being traced back to this forum with negative consequences (including making media outlets think that this forum is organizing a group of "spammers" to post responses at their websites).

The following is a good tool to prevent this sort of tracing back to the forum:

Or, try the anonymized link to the above link:

Great idea.

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier.

It's easy, folks. Just put the following at the beginning of any URL you enter here:

http://anonym.to/?

I think those just shorten the URL, not strip out the referrer.

I've seen forums (pr0n) where the board automatically makes the link go thru an anonymous referrer, dunno if vbulletin has such an option.

Alternately, if you put it in a "Code" box (the # icon above), readers would have to copy and paste the url which would eliminate a referrer.

I right click on the link, select "Copy Shortcut," paste it into the "Address" box and hit "Enter."

That gives no refferal data.

That works too.

The admins could actually set up VBulletin to automatically anonymize all external links from this board.

I do the same.

This is the best method, since people will get suspicious if they see the same referrer (even if anonymized) for tons of voters.

This solution would be ideal if it is not too much work for them.

And the winner is

http://anonym.to/?

Though it still leaves REMOTE_ADDR: intact. That could be important as well.

Open proxies anyone?

You could ask Josh to install this hack from vbulletin.org: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=143615

It does what your asking for without you having to do anything

So, has anybody mentioned this to a mod? I guess I'll PM them just in case.
