These are the results of the Iowa Straw Poll held this Saturday in Ames, Iowa. My best friend Deborah McClelland and I drove up there on Wednesday of last week and spent a few days visiting with grassroots volunteers for Ron Paul from around the country. We folded flyers and organized with the Vote in the Sunshine people to make sure that there was a fair vote. We met people who are making a difference who came to Iowa to participate in the opening shot of campaign 2008.

There are a couple of stories that really are not reflected in the vote totals. In the past, this event has produced around 40,000 people. The 14,302 votes this season is a miserable showing. We are observing the slow painful death of the Republican party! It appears to be imploding.

This is not entirely the fault of the GOP. The media would like to make it so and has not been reporting the Ron Paul story. With his solid showing in the middle of the pack, maybe this will not continue to be true. . .

People need to know that they can have a conservative family values kind of president, who does not require the lives of their firstborn sons for the glory of the state. There is a chance to secure our borders, retain our national sovereignty, and restore peace and prosperity to our land. There is one candidate who would just bring our troops home and protect our southern border from invasion. There is Hope for America!

The other story not so well told by the media, but certainly visible in the coverage of the straw poll, was the energy and momentum and depth of commitment of the Ron Paul RevoLution volunteers. We are not just the internet, we are not just spammers, we are people who care enough to spend our own money to travel and promote and organize and wave signs and vote and organize to elect Ron Paul our next president. We may not have placed first in the vote totals at the Iowa Straw Poll, but we were certainly the first and last thing you saw at the Iowa Straw Poll and you won't forget that image soon will you America?
