If anyone reads through the whole thread, thinks its worthwhile, and knows the type of letter I'm trying to write go ahead and take a stab at it.

I'm buried for the next few days at least.

Yes, how times have changed:

In the 1956 elections, conser* vative Democrats, egged on by officials in the air force, accused Eisenhower of permit* ting a "bomber gap" by refusing to fund their new B-70 bomber. And in 1960, Rich* ard Nixon, who served eight years as Eisen* hower's vice president, was excoriated by his Democratic rival John F. Kennedy for allow* ing a supposedly dangerous "missile gap" to develop between U.S. and Soviet forces. The bomber gap proved a figment of the fevered imaginations of the weapons boosters, while the missile gap was real enough—though

Thanks for the link billjarrett-

btw, Eisenhower's presidential papers are very revealing to all that he had to put up with . . .

Ike was truly a genius in perhaps the most volatile years we've ever known in the aftermath of the World Wars -

with Iran rumblings and all - and the Frenchies torturing Muslims in Algiers to no avail.

And in Ike's farewell address in 1961 he warned the nation of the military industrial "congressional" complex -
but House leaders convinced him to axe the "congressional" terminology in the speech -

Is it time yet to heed Eisenhower's warning - or do we want and desire McCain's Nazi-esque 100 years of war instead?
