to a friend who is an Obama supporter. He replied "Chump change compared to the cost of the Iraq War." If I'm reading the article correctly Obama's bill would cost us $845 billion annually. What's the current annual cost of the Iraq War?

No one really knows because a lot of it is hidden in the defense budget, special appropriations, etc. Nor do we know what it will eventually cost due to soldiers' needing treatment when they return. I've seen estimates ranging from $45mil/day to $275mil/day.

That said, this website is keeping a running total based on Congressional budgets.

104 billion (2 billion per week).

Your friend's logic is stupid.

Lets spend more money... just because we are already doing it on a bad cause-- instead of fixing the problem.

Getting of Iraq is the first step towards financial health. But continuing to spend like a compulsive shopper with dozens of credit cards will no longer do. We're 9,000,000,000,000 dollars in debt. The dollar is crashing. Getting out of Iraq and then simply spending the money elsewhere isn't going to help save you, me, and everyone in our country from economic ruin.

Yeah, I've been working on him. It's sad that otherwise intelligent people fall for the bullshit.

Soldiers are replaceable. No one thinks about the cost of losing a loved one. :(

The concept of Opportunity Cost is almost always overlooked.

What could have been done with all that money if it were invested domestically in productive projects or not spent at all.
