Read BEFORE you vote... example why (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?p=1256883#post1256883). Sorry about the length

Yesterday this forum went wild with posts about the march,
and when to have it and when not to have it. Arguments were
posted about why it shouldn't be held on certain months because
students have finals, whom we need for a good turn out. Also,
why not to have it on a holiday because people want to spend it
with their families. Then there was the argument against having
it on a weekday because people would need to take time off and
probably couldn't take the day off, therefore it should be organized
on a weekend.

Well, I gave my viewpoint as to why it would be better to have it
on a weekday. The gist of my argument was as follows:

More news coverage on weekdays (just check your local and
national news media on weekdays and compare them to
weekends).
More coverage because of possible traffic "disruption" and
the fact all these folks are taking to the streets on a business day.
You also get the added benefit that people out on their daily
business will take notice and spread the "buzz" on their own.

e.g., Imagine typical business guy on his way to work:

Sees the HUGE freedom marchers.
On his way to the office he calls his wife on his cell
and tells her about it and asks "Have you heard anything
on the news about this march?"
When he gets to the office tells Larry and Kate on the
elevator ride up
Tells John, Candy and Martha on his way to his desk.
Later in the day, on his way to have lunch with a client
he tells Bob.
At lunch he tells his potential new clients to break the
ice and start the conversation.
Waitress overhears and comments on it "Yea, I heard
from my customers earlier today that it is a Ron Paul
march for Freedom!"
...

All of us taking OFF WORK to go to this march tell our
employers (possibly big corporations) where we STAND!
Can you imagine thousands if not tens of thousands of
Freedom-fighters taking the day off? ... This may cause
a glitch to register in our economy for the day! Which will
translate to MORE NEWS COVERAGE!
... probably more reasons I've not yet thought of

But... then I started to think, that yea, it'll be tough for all of us to
get up and fly to Washington DC for this march. Especially if we have
family and kids. Do we take the entire family with us? Do we make
arrangements for someone to sit for the kids? Then there is transportation
costs (airplane fee, hotel, etc.) All these work against our intention
and would be causes for the overall turn out and the march to be a
failure or at best a non-event.

So... taking all these into consideration, would it not be possible to
have many (read: hundreds) of these Freedom Marches ALL OVER the
United States? I mean instead of all of us getting up and flying over
to DC, we could maybe make a minimal travel to local major metropolitan
cities? e.g., New York, Los Angeles (CA), Chicago (IL), Houston (TX),
Phoenix (AZ), Philadelphia (PA), San Antonio (TX), San Diego (CA), Dallas (TX),
San Jose City (CA), Detroit (MI), Jacksonville (FL), Indianapolis (IN), San
Francisco (CA), Columbus (OH), Austin (TX), Memphis (TN), Fort Worth (TX),
Baltimore (MD), Charlotte (NC), El Paso (TX), Boston (MA), Seattle (WA),
Milwaukee (WI), Denver (CO), Louisville/Jefferson County (KY), Las Vegas (NV),
NashvilleDavidson (TN), Oklahoma City (OK), Portland (OR), Tucson (AZ),
Albuquerque (NM), Atlanta (GA), Long Beach (CA), Fresno (CA), Sacramento (CA),
Kansas City (MO), Cleveland (OH), Virginia Beach (VA), Omaha (NE), Miami (FL),
Oakland (CA), Tulsa (OK), Honolulu (HI), Minneapolis (MN), Colorado Springs (CO),
Arlington (TX), Wichita (KS), ..the list goes on, and yea, even Washington DC! :)

What do you say?

An All State Freedom March!

I suggested an east coast - west coast situation for many of the reasons you state and while I would support a multi-city event I would think that too many cities would deflate the numbers too much. DC should be number one, it is Ron's wish that we go there. Perhaps some centrally located cities - perhaps 5 large cities could be chosen. One west, north, south, central then DC is east.

I think that's the best plan for all of the following reasons:

1. It minimizes our vulnerability to agitators that our opponents might pay to start trouble, even if it meant murdering people. The outcome would be blamed on us and would supposedly justify police violence aimed at us.

2. It would maximize attendance. I know one person who'd make it to DC and at least five who'd make it to a city in my state.

3. It could be combined with demonstrations aimed at restoring the integrity of elections. If enough people attended in several states, the public would inevitably wonder how valid election results have been.

4. Fewer voters would feel intimidated out of their votes if they could see that many thousands of people were voting the same way. Make it an anti-torture demonstration as well.

There will be a March on Philadelphia BEFORE this one takes place, as Pennsylvania's Primary is April 22nd!

we need to show people NUMBERS. When we do separate states, we end up with some states only having a couple hundred. We need it in one place at one time, like all the great revolutions.

I know what you are saying, but as stated before, while many would
like to attend, what is the potential that people with families and jobs
get up and spend at least a few hundred dollars to fly over to DC for
a march?

I personally, I'm a single 30 something guy, I have zero expenses pretty
much, so it wouldn't be much of a burden on me to get up and fly to
another state and spend a few hundred $$ for a one day event I'm passionate
about. But I can name at least 4 people at my office who are RP supporters
(two of whom I know have donated $$ to the campaign) who would not
fly out to DC because of "obligations". One guy that I mentioned this
march to jokingly said "If you pay for my ticket and time off I'll go!"

But I can pretty much guarantee that at least 3 of those 4 people would
show up at a local march in Los Angeles.

You speak of numbers, I'm looking at either 1 (me) in DC or 4 in Los
Angeles, CA (me + 3 co-workers, possibly dragging my sister along for
a total of 5 from just my "camp").

That's where I'm coming from.

I like this idea as well. One major march in DC and a few in major
cities around United States.

Count me in!!
wherever, whenever my family (6) and friends (5+) will be there to show support.
To the end we will give and do what we can. This is not the time to ease up in any way but we need to push forward with more donations and support.
See everybody at march!!!

I voted YES because I thought you were talking about the Washington March.

I want to reverse my vote now that I have read your post.

We have already had state marches and they didn't get media attention. A March on Washington is what we need now, and every Ron Paul supporter needs to come and bring his/her extended family and a whole lot of friends:D

With all this grass roots action, why can't you select a state and find out approximately how many people would attend a march in DC as opposed to a march in their state? If five times as many would attend in their state, you definitely want the all state march - or at least East, Midwest, West, and so forth.

Can't argue with this.

The point of this thread was to get another angle introduced for
this march idea and have folks discuss it especially in meetup groups
and grassroots organizations ...

The organizer of the yearly event for Vietnam Veterans that takes place over Memorial Weekend in Washington DC might get the Vets to join in.

"Rolling Thunder XXI is Sunday, May 25, 2008 in Washington, DC."

---------------

Memorial Day, (Federal Holiday), is observed on the last Monday in May, the 26th, this year.

They've had over 600,000 Vets in Washington at times, I think Memorial Day Weekend/Monday would be the ideal time.

Ron Paul people joining with a pre-planned yearly gathering of hundreds of thousands of Vets would be amazing.

If we all marched/rode together on the 25th - It will be known without a doubt that we're a force to be reckoned with.

IMHO- it's a"no brainer" to hold the march on May 25th.

I also misread it...I reverse my vote!!

We need a march on Washington. Multiple marches at cities across the country would greatly diminish the effect and our attendance.

Talk about watering down our effort! All of this talk about 'sacrificing' when it comes to moneybombs, but yet we can't make it out to the most important march in modern history?! Come one, come all... let us go and let our voices be heard! We'll even pick someone up along the way, if possible!

YES! All the effort so far has been great. Now its time to reveal our faces to the world. Stop hiding behind your screens and take a stand. Take a stand next to everyone who believes in this common interest. We will all rise up to this country and tell them what they need to hear.
