View Full Version : 10-day Siege on TX starts in Austin Feb. 23rd

At a speech given by Newt Gingrich before CPAC last Sunday, he warned that the Republicans face a "catastrophic" election this year unless the GOP changes course. He pointed out that on Super Tuesday, 14.6 million voters took part in the Democratic races, compared to 8.3 million Republicans.

He also pointed out that this upcoming election is about MORE than just the Presidency -- there are 513,000 elected officials in the United States. If the turnout is the same at the general election as it is at the primary and those voters vote down party lines, the Republican party will face a complete WIPE-OUT in the next elections -- not just in the White House, but also in Congress, in the Senate and in every local position in elected politics!

The party leadership is beginning to realize this and a mass panic is emerging within the party ranks. We need to seize this moment of opportunity.

Mr. Gingrich said: "I was in Idaho this last week, and Barack Obama on last Saturday had 16,000 people in Boise. The idea [of] the most liberal Democratic Senator getting 16,000 people in Boise was inconceivable....and every person who cares about the conservative movement and every person who cares about the Republican Party had better stop and say to themselves, 'There is something big happening in this county.' We don't understand it. We're not responding to it. And we're currently not competitive. And if we want to get to be competitive, we had better change and we had better change now."

Where do you think Newt Gingrich got the phrase "Something Big" from? Does this sound familiar?

"There's something going on in this country, and it's big. It's really big! And I happen to be lucky enough to be a part of it!"
- Dr. Ron Paul, CNN/Youtube debate, November 28, 2007

Gingrich sounded the alarm and issued an immediate call for CHANGE within the Republican party: "And let me make this very clear, I believe we have to change or expect defeat."

We have an opportunity, and it is coming up soon -- on February 23rd, Ron Paul will be holding a rally in Austin, TX.

We are already expecting at least 2,000 people to attend this rally, and we've just barely gotten started promoting it.

If we maximize participation at this rally and we can draw 20,000 people to Austin, we can show the Republican Party leaders that Ron Paul is the only candidate in their ranks that has the ability to compete with Barack Obama.

The media will not be able to ignore this. In the aftermath of Gingrich's warning, they are already more willing to speak out against McCain. We can do this -- I know we can. I propose that instead of (or perhaps in addition to) a march in Washington next summer, that we do what only the Ron Paul Revolution has the power and enthusiastic support to do. We need to bring 20,000 Ron Paul supporters to the rally in Austin on February 23rd and send a loud and clear message to the Republican leadership that it's time for change, they need to embrace us and return the Republican party to it's traditional roots -- the views and ideas being promoted by Dr. Ron Paul and his growing army of Republican Revolutionaries.

Following the rally on February 23rd, I call on those who decend on Austin to then join with Operation: Come and Take it (www.OperationComeAndTakeIt.com) and spread out across Texas united as modern-day patriots to united the Republican party behind the only man who can effectively compete with Mr. Obama.

I propose we call this rally SOMETHING BIG. Let's join together and show the Republican Party what SOMETHING BIG really means!

The website is directed towards Ron Paul supporters. The point is:

This impacts the entire Republican Party, not just Ron Paul supporters.

In November, voters will swarm to the polls in unprecedented numbers - at least on the Democratic side - and will do more than just elect a President. They will elect Congressmen, Senators, Governors, County Commissioners, Tax Assessors, District Attorneys, School Board members, etc.

If there are more Democrats turning out than Republicans, we don't just lose the White House...

WE LOSE EVERYTHING!

We need to create an appeal to the entire Republican party that goes beyond Ron Paul.

It's Something Big - is a rally that will show the Democrats that the Republicans have as much enthusiasm and energy as they do. The fact that this rally centers on Dr. Ron Paul will be important to us, but we can promote it beyond the base of Ron Paul supporters if we tell them (remember, they are sheep, right?) that this will help show the Independent voters that Republicans are as enthusiastic about CHANGE as the Democrats are! Since Dr. Paul is the only candidate within our ranks promoting CHANGE, it's natural to have the rally center around him.

This is WAY bigger than Ron Paul. The Republican party as we know it is at risk.

Personally, I think it was a plan by the liberal mainstream media all along to give the Republican party enough rope to hang itself. They methodically censored the only candidate within the Republican party who promoted an agenda of CHANGE, knowing that the American public was hungry for CHANGE.

Do you start to see how much bigger this is than anything else we've been doing?

That's why we'll call it "Something Big!" We can bring the entire Republican party on board with our agenda for change. They have no other choice.

It is not too late. But we can't wait. This has to happen now.

It's important to note that the University of Texas in Austin has about ~50000 students. We can take major advantage of this if we can get the word out adequately. You can count me in!

The capacity of the UT Mall is approximately 10,000 from what I've been told. I suggest that we fill it to capacity. But that will depend on whether the Ron Paul Revolution is going to go into a corner and sulk because McCain has so damned many pledged delegates, or whether they're going to join us in Austin for our last stand.

Remember the Alamo! It began on February 23rd. So does our last stand.

I have not called for a 1-day rally, I have called for a 10-day siege on Texas.

lol The organizer hopes for more like 9,000. He's posted in this thread coincidentally. :D

Seriously, if RP can get 8,000 or whatever at LIBERTY UNIVERSITY, surely we can rally at LEAST 9,000 people in a city with one of the largest universities in the US and the largest RP Meetup group.

Austin itself has around 65,000 people and it's within a few hours of three huge cities (Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston and San Antonio). If we can't get 20,000 people there we don't deserve to win.

Austin's bigger than that. I think the population of Austin/Round Rock/Georgetown is around half a million. UT has 50,000 students alone. From what one of my buddies has been telling me RP is the most visible candidate on campus.

UT belongs to RP and Obama. As of recently, I'd say more Obama than anything... it doesn't help with professors telling their students they should vote Democrat in the Primaries since their vote will "mean something" for the Democratic nomination this year.

Strong left influence at UT? No way.:D jk

Things are fairly quiet down here as far as the election goes. I don't know what to say about the student population, but with the GHWB Library on campus, you can imagine the neo-conservative ideology is predominate.

This seems like a win win. Either we get the GOP to take a closer look at Ron Paul and his ideals or the entire party falls apart leaving a void for either the Libertarian Party or the Constitutional party of some kind of combination of the two.

Funny, how the GOP is so slow to realize how out of step they are. It has been clear as a bell to the rest of us for a long time now!

The fastest way to effect real change in this country is to take over with another party completely rather than try to change the GOP. Let them fall apart! They should!

But I will be there for the march - if it is a march for Ron Paul only.

Seriously though. We're making this an all day event. 2-8pm. Ron Paul, Jimmie Vaughan, probably 3 more bands. The middle of Austin. I just heard a motorcycle gang will be escorting Dr. Paul through the city and onto campus.

I talked all my Obama friends into coming just for the music. We can fit at least 10,000 just on the main mall. We can overflow onto the south. Graduation is held there every year with an attendance of 37,000.

Parking details are on the website

not to slow things down (awesome thing going here.. ) but in the OP it sounds like Gingrich was somehow seeing the light that the GOP needs to get behind Paul. Nothing could be further from the truth. He has been on several media outlets over the last few days touting McCain as the savior for the GOP and trying to rally everyone behind him.. don't be mistaken, Newt does NOT want Paul anywhere near the GOP.. that "change" he's calling for is the change towards McCain. (which makes zero sense.. but wth).

Now back to this rally in Austin. Make it BIG. You really do need to get 10,000 there. Bus people in if you have to.

Take pics and video with your cell phone of the huge crowd and send them to CNN i-report (http://www.cnn.com/exchange/ireports/topics/forms/breaking.news.html) and any other media outlet that accepts cell phone pics/video.

Anyone a member of a school board in TX want to put together a field-trip to Austin for their district? Stop at a museum, check out a political rally, go to the courthouse/city hall, etc...

Make sure all colleges in a 200mi radius send caravans.

You mean like 650,000, right?

From the US Census Bureau website the population of Austin is just over 700,000 and the population of the metro area is just over 1,200,000.

The following metro areas are within a 3 hour drive. San Antonio, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Waco, Killeen, and Bryan/College Station. Combined with Austin the total population of these 7 metro areas is 13,412,402.
