Lets figure out the logistics of having a march on Washington.
I merged a couple of step-by-step guides I found but we should add/alter as needed. I created a new thread (with additional info) for each step so we can brainstorm. Hopefully this will start us on the right track to becoming organized.

The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights guarantees "...the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." This includes demonstrating in Washington D.C.

Steps

Start planning at least three months ahead of your anticipated march. Permits are approved within 48 hours but you can submit them up to a year or more in advance. The earlier you start, the better.

Consider hiring a professional event organizer.

Step One - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118812 - Type of demonstration

Step Two - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118818 - An idea whose time has come

Step Three - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118826 - Find Allies

Step Four - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118828 - date, agenda, transportation, safety concerns, and assignment of tasks

Step Five - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118831 - Specific Location and Route

Step Six - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118835 - PERMIT

Step Seven - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118840 - Publicity and Port-a-Potties

Step Eight - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118843 - Materials and Activities

Step Nine - http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=118848 - Prepare for the day of demonstration

Tips & Warnings

Be friendly and polite to the National Parks Agent, she is your key to permit approval. Call the National Parks Permit Office at (202) 619-7225 for help in filling out the application.
All applications must be mailed or walked in to the National Parks Permit Office.

Missed a step - Try to secure block reservations for an army :P

But seriously, I don't want my family sleeping in the street and I've never been out to DC. Is there enough out there hotel wise for the Revolution?

if not D.C. you could always drive 45 minutes to Baltimore they have plenty of hotels...and even inbetween D.C. and Baltimore there are pretty good sized areas with plenty of space

Thanks, I'll be taking some personal days probably and driving out with my family. I've never made it to DC, and my wife is a naturalized citizen from South Korea, so we'd like to spend some time out there. Driving 45 mins for a room is no problem.

If HQ isn't gonna take this one, then we should find people that have one or both of these credentials to head this up:

1. Have already organized a large, successful and complex rally

2. Live in or at least understand the complexities in DC.

hiller,

Right on with a step by step process. I almost got a headache trying to read the posts going in every different direction. I hope some take a management planning class.

It is going to be a bust, if all don't step back and take a breath.

Saying to heck with a permit, is asking for trouble in DC from the get go. Some will bring their families. If the march is big, DC needs notice for traffic control issues. They will be more than in an ugly mood, if caught by surprise and have to call in officers off duty.

I hope they listen to your plan of action. Just my opinion.

hillertexas
02-12-2008, 09:45 AM
Thanks, Sarge. I think it is important that we get as permit as well....for the childrens' sake :)

I agree.

Also, the sound stage, port a johns etc. If Dr. Paul intends to speak the only way he will be heard is with the right set up.

I was wondering the same thing. And when this was brought up before last night I gave that as my reason for not supporting this idea.

However, I'm a believer that Ron Paul is playing chess while the others are playing checkers, and this comes from the top. I'm all in.

Hillertexas -- what about organizing transportation and lodging? That's an incredibly important step. If we can set up charter buses or car pools, then we could probably give people a chance to go who wouldn't be able to otherwise.

Absolutely, I lived outside DC for quite a while. Your best options are to look at where Amtrak runs and find a small town outside DC that's close to a subway line or Amtrak and take that into town.

You can stay at a Red Roof Inn (pretty cheap) in some of those towns--you can even take your dog with you to a Red Roof Inn! I just went to DC right around New Year's and stayed in Shady Grove, right outside of Rockville, MD. DC's subway system is pretty clean and a safe, convenient way to travel.

If you have any other questions about how to get around in DC, I'll do my best to help you out. I'd try to avoid driving in the city when there's a big rally going on though, it can be bad.

By the way, here's a link to the DC Metro system, it helps a lot in planning where you'll stay: http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm

I have two suggestions:

Surround the Federal Reserve Building at 20th Street and Constitution Avenue NW for a speech by Ron Paul.
Break up into smaller groups organized by congressional district, and go visit our representatives to deliver a message to them: start voting for Ron Paul's bills.
