El Dorado, Kan. -
Republicans showed their support for Huckabee during the caucuses Saturday throughout the state.
Several area citizens attended conventions held in Eureka and Wichita, where they heard reasons to support each of the candidates.
The first candidate voters in Eureka heard about was Ron Paul. Gus Carpenter spoke on his behalf.
“The first thing I want you to do this morning is I want you to put your thinking cap on,” he said. “If the media has been lying to us, what is the truth?
“On a scale of one to 10 how many of you believe that the media has been telling you the truth?”
No one raised their hands.
“On a scale of one to 10 how much do you agree that the government has been telling you the truth?” he asked next. “You hear the media talk about the leading candidates, but then they don’t say anything about Ron Paul. Does this sound like they don’t want you to know anything about Ron?”
He described Ron as a statesman and asked people to check him out before voting their hearts.
He was asked about Paul’s stance on the war.
“Ron Paul wants to bring all of our troops home,” Carpenter said. “That don’t’ mean just in Iraq and Afghanistan, that means in all the countries. Take for instance Germany. Do you have any idea how many troops we have in Germany? We have 57,000 troops in Germany. They’ve been there for over 50 years.”
He asked if Germany were not able to protect themselves in 50 years, why American troops should be there risking their lives.
“We have troops in South Korea protecting their border and Ron Paul wants to bring those troops home,” he continued
He was then asked about his position on the Constitution.
“He is a strict constitutionalist,” Carpenter said. “He has never voted for any bill that went against the Constitution.”
He also was asked about his stance on Roe vs. Wade.
“Ron Paul is a doctor and he would like to bring up Roe vs. Wade again,” he said.
“Ron Paul also wants to do away with the IRS.”
He was then asked how Paul would finance the federal government without income tax.
Carpenter asked the gentleman when the income tax was started, to which the man who had asked the question answered 1913.
Carpenter then asked why it was initiated and said it was initiated to finance the war.
“We weren’t at war,” the man said.
Carpenter said it was World War I, but the man pointed out that it didn’t start until 1917.
“Well, the politicians were looking ahead,” Carpenter said.
Carpenter was asked again how Paul plans to finance the government.
Another person attending said the IRS only funds 2 percent of the total budget of the U.S.
“Did you ever stop to think how much it is costing us to have all of those troops to police the whole world?” Carpenter asked. “We should bring all of our troops home and protect our own borders.”
Paul also wants to reinstate an import tax.
“He is not for free trade, he is for fair trade,” Carpenter said.
Paul also wants to do away with the federal reserve and go back to the gold standard.
Another issue is that Ron Paul wants to get the United States out of the United Nations.
The next question was on illegal immigration.
“He wants our borders closed,” Carpenter said.
He again encouraged everyone to vote their hearts.

I do not know who spoke this but great job hopefully the speech will be used at other Caucus locations
