There were only 2 posts when i posted it. No way of seeing replies discrediting it before they were posted...

Back in August, when his campaign appeared to be dead, McCain applied for and became eligible for public campaign funding. In return for matching funds that would total up to about $21 million in the Primary, he agreed to limit his campaign spending to $40.89 million in the Primary (maybe a couple of million more due to a possible cost-of-living increase in 2008).

As of 12/31/07, his financial reports show that he already spent over $39 million dollars -- before Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, Super Tuesday, yesterday, etc. Later in this forum is a link to an article that points out that even though he was certified as eligible, McCain decided NOT to accept public financing so he wouldn't have to be subject to spending limits. However, the article also notes that a loan that he took out last year still attaches him somewhat to the rules. It would be challengeable to the FEC (not that the Huckabee campaign would do that, but somebody might).

Whoa. Good job hucks army. McCain has plenty of cash.

The question is can McCain still take the 'matching funds' and in doing so exasperate the idea that he is not a CONSERATIVE. (we would definitely have to make this known) :D

And if he really is broke, why in the hell would Romney drop out with this little bit of info being out there?? There must be something going on in the background.

He's not broke and he will not take matching funds. Now that he's the frontrunner, he'll keep getting funds. Paul was also eligible for matching funds, but chose not to take them even though there were many on this forum pushing him to accept.

The ultimate pork barrel project - taxpayer funding of McCain's presidential campaign.

Can we make a TV ad showing McCain's hypocrisy?

"McCain-Feingold sought to impose limits on campaign finances. John McCain, now impeded by his own legislation, is doing everything he can to circumvent it."

Except that he never took matching funds therefore it's irrelevant. Stop overlooking that very important piece of information.

There has to be a rule somewhere locking you in. McCain had every intention of taking matching funds. He filled out all the paperwork, was approved and is simply not cashing the check. If they already cut him the check, he shouldn't be able to sit on it indefinitely and back out whenever he wants to.
