They have basically nothing on him. I don't see why they oppose a man who fights for the greater good of mankind and his own country. It seems people wouldn't know what they would do without war, it's sickening. I confronted a John McCain voter today in New Jersey and I asked him why do you support John McCain, he went completely off topic just like John McCain would and went on blabbling about how he was a hero and served in the military.

I served so I believe I've a right to write this: To me the real heroes are those that didn't get to come back from Vietnam, and those that came back shattered, physically and mentally, and are quietly living out their life. And there are those who served in Vietnam, and continue to serve, in political office, following the Constitution, to which they swore the Oath when they first put on a uniform.
John McCain is no hero. Not anymore. Whatever "hero" status he earned--though I'm in doubt it was truly earned--has been completely nullified by his conduct while serving as a senator.

I'm sorry, your thread is about Ron Paul opposers, not McDrain's "hero" status. Addressing the opposers that have such a hard-on for McBrain, I wish they would fracking get past his service in 'Nam and look at his service now! It's just like the Huck's, or Romney's, etc. supporters. One damn issue! In McStrain's case, because of his conduct as a senator, it should be ancient fracking history.

Agreed. McCain bombed people from the safety of a plane, then he got shot down and caught. He was barely in harms way compared to the many thousands of soldiers on the ground who were, but he somehow got unlucky and captured anyway... Then what did he do? He survived captivity. Yes, he deserves a lot of respect and gratitude, but... he survived. Then what did he do? He capitalized on that to gain power and become elected. He exploited it. And as a senator, he's done many foolish things . Now, he continues to exploit his bad experience - not heroic, bad, unlucky, unfortunate - so he can continue to be in power and do foolish things. There's nothing heroic about that.

I mean geez. Remember how Jessica Lynch was dubbed a hero? That girl was NO hero. She performed horribly. She was a coward, and she got lucky and survived and was rescued, thanks to the many men willing to give their lives (and some who did) rescuing her. She's not very bright either. I suppose we should elect her to the US Senate, and eventually to the presidency by that logic, right?

My fellow service members were outraged and disgusted when Lynch was called a hero by the media... McCain ain't much different...

it is quite simple really.

They are the "Followers" or "Sheeple"
People who pay attention to what the popular people do.
"Johnny is smart, lets do what he does"
In reality, johnny is not so smart, he is just smarter than they are.

THat is it in a nutshell.

They are suffering from thinking errors such as Cognitive Dissonance. They simply refuse to even consider an alternative viewpoint. (http://www.buildfreedom.com/tl/wuapref.shtml)

I wonder what their psychology will be if why the N. Vietnamese call him as "Our Songbird," become known, perhaps even while he was POW in a hotel?
