Okay I might sound like a moron asking this quesiton but I went to the GOP website, texas gop website and they dont have that info.

I am leaving the country in a few days and want to register as a republican to be able to vote in the texas primaries from overseas.

I already registered to vote in 04, and didnt pick a party, so I dont know if I reregister and pick the republican party or fill a form somewhere to join the republican party?

thanks

Well, first: does your state require you to register for party affiliation? http://www.fairvote.org/?page=1801

Idaho, for instance, doesn't require party affiliation to participate in primaries, it's what they call open primaries.

Many states have changed their laws after one or both of the major parties lobbied to make primaries closed. But, some states still view it as a privacy issue and don't want people's party membership on the public record.

Becoming a Republican

Texas does not have registration by political party a voter becomes a Republican by voting in the Republican Primary or Republican Primary Run-Off.

can you register online? lol I am getting pissed off because all I want to do is fill a form and I am registered, but on each site I must go though a maze of information just to get one answer, and they have horrendous faq's, ill just call them later today...

You will have to register to vote, no getting around that, but the actual rules vary from state to state: dates, duration etc.

And, you can usually register online via your state's website.
