Let's show this Peden guy who he's dealing with!

Here is the garbage being flung at his constituents:

http://lonestartimes.com/2008/02/01/chronically-incompetent/
Peden is now fighting to replace Ron Paul in Congress, on the basic premise that people who live in District 14 actually deserve an elected representative who cares more about looking out for their interests in D.C. than trying to persuade a bunch of dope-smoking, Kucinich-loving college students in Seattle that America’s problems are the result of a flawed monetary policy controlled by a wealthy and secretive elite.

Mr. Peden:

Please be aware that your smear campaign against the Honarable Dr. Ron Paul will not work. Dr. Ron Paul is loved by his district and by millions of Americans across this country. You can not and will not stifle the message of peace, liberty, and prosperity in your district, and I for one will donate to Ron Paul's congressional campaign to make sure he has the financial resources to beat back your lies and distortions. Freedom loving Americans from all over this great country will also be launching a massive money drive for Ron Paul for his Republican primary race against you. Good Luck.

P.S. Drop out and avoid the embarassment.

Ped** is pulling a "Sinatra"; donating a lot of his own money to his campaign. According to the FEC, Ped** has given his campaign 134,000 dollars of his own money. Paul's republican primary opponent in 2006, Cynthia Sinatra, spent 150,000 dollars of her own money on her failed campaign (Paul: 78%, Sinatra: 22%).

I don't know Paul's personal wealth and if he could do the same if he wanted (I know he hasn't, at least according to the FEC), but this guy needs to be countered.

Chris Peden's Cash Redux
True to its monthly cyclical expectations, the herd over at the Church of Dan has been flopping all over itself for the better part of the day in a self-feeding frenzy of hits on Presidential long-shot and favorite KSEV punching bag Ron Paul. They range from the usual innuendo in which Paul is said to enjoy the company of "racist/bigotted/anti-semite/homophobic/(your ad here) scumbags" to this critique wherein a commentator expresses an inordinately bitter offense at the loins that produced an obscure anti-tax pamphleteer who has recently aligned with the Paul camp. The most amusing by far though is an unusual attempt by the Lone Star Times crowd to promote the reputed fundraising prowess of The Honorable Chris Peden, the boy genius of Friendswood City Council who seems to believe that he can unseat Paul from his congressional seat by singlehandedly purchasing hundreds of dollars in banner ads on...well...the Lone Star Times.

While ostensibly undertaking a correction of the mathematically inept Houston Chronicle, author David Benzion has another purpose in mind - to show, as he puts it after repeatedly reminding his readers that Peden first attained his Honorability with the backing of KSEV, that

Peden has twice as much money Cash-On-Hand as Paul, no?

He is referencing, of course, the $143,949.92 that Peden reported "on hand" at the end of last year's 4th reporting quarter. This figure naturally seems like an impressive haul, and numerically it is considering that Peden finished the prior quarter with a stunning $363 in the bank. So where did this sudden cash influx come from? Another pundit from Dan-Land attempts to explain:

Read Peden's report yourself, and you can see exactly where the money came from. I’m sorry to say you’ll be disappointed, unless you consider people like a CPA, an orthodontist and a pastor to be “corporate masters.”
It’s also interesting to note that all of Peden’s money is local — it comes from towns like Houston, Friendswood and Crosby.

This intriguing take appears aside a critique of the Chronicle's shoddy reporting standards, but a closer look reveals much more in common than a simple coinciding placement. You see, the majority of Chris Peden's cash haul from the last quarter, and to be specific $150,424.49 out of $174,750.80 raised (of which $143,949.92 remain unexpended on banner ads), did not simply come from "local" addresses in towns like Friendswood. It came from one single address in Friendswood: 1878 Flat Rock Street, as in the abode of the candidate himself.

One "William Chris Peden" of 1878 Flat Rock Street, as in the Honorable Mayor Pro Tem of Friendswood, also happens to be the aforementioned CPA who keeps donating to the Chris Peden for Congress campaign. Let's take a look at what this "man of the people" has managed to give himself:

Donor:
William Chris Peden
Peden & Associates, LLP
CPA

Carry-over loan balance - $14,428.02

4th Quarter loans from Chris Peden to Chris Peden -
10/01/2007 - $129.33
10/04/2007 - $21.61
10/06/2007 - $99.86
10/11/2007 - $1,000.00
11/29/2007 - $12,000.00
11/30/2007 - $18,000.00
12/07/2007 - $59,875.00
12/10/2007 - $20,000.00
12/31/2007 - $25,000.00

Grand Total: $150,424.49

Of the remaining actual donations from persons other than the Honorable Chris Peden himself, approximately half came from his relatives, Messrs. Bill Peden, also of Peden and Associates, and Greg Peden, of the Alvin Chevron station each gave the maximum allowable donation of $4,600. Ellen and Lois Peden, co-managers of the Hope Village Tea Room. similarly maxed out, bringing the Peden Family's self contributions to a total of $16,100 for the quarter.

That places just over $166,000 of Peden's claimed total haul of $174,000 "in the family."

The moral of the story: when you can't raise more than a couple hundred bucks for your lousy candidacy from the common folks, it never hurts to cut yourself a couple of $25,000 checks. It also helps when the primary recipient of your advertising budget is willing to your attempt to buy a seat in Congress as an outpouring of neighborly support for your cause.

Since when is slashing funding for FBI and CIA, and pulling troops out of Iraq a bad thing? Reads more like a promo. Unless the people of Texas are stupid, this would make them vote for Ron Paul.

The way to combat this is to make an identical copy with altered words to make it pro Ron Paul. This would cause confusion against the other guy.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0507/4154.html

Texas Rep. Ron Paul's suggestion that United States actions were partly to blame for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks is prompting several primary challengers to vie for the Republican's House seat.

Paul's comments during the second GOP presidential debate brought his anti-war stance to the fore. And the challengers inspired by his views are just the latest manifestation of a GOP base looking askance at congressmen who have bucked the party over the Iraq war.

Friendswood City Councilman Chris Peden has formed an exploratory committee seat and is likely to announce a primary bid against Paul in the next several weeks. And one of Paul's former district aides, Eric Dondero Rittberg -- who later dropped the Rittberg and now goes by Eric Dondero -- has already announced his campaign, calling his ex-boss a "complete nutcase" and his views on foreign policy "near-treasonous."

Paul spokesman Mark Elam said Paul "takes every challenge seriously," but dismissed the two nascent campaigns, referring to Peden as a political opportunist.

"Only a few months ago, he was singing the congressman's praises," Elam said. "He promised he would never run against him in the primary so long as (Paul) was running for reelection."

As for Dondero, Elam described him as a disgruntled lower-level employee and as "looney-tunes." Dondero served as Paul's senior district aide from 1996 to 2003, and also as his driver during the 1996 campaign.

Dear Congressional District 14 Republican Primary Voters:

My name is Chris Peden. I'm a Pro-Family, Pro-Life Christian conservative who believes in free markets and individual responsibility.

I'm running for Congress because it's clear that our traditional values need a proven conservative voice in Washington, D.C. In essence, we need Republicans to vote like Republicans again.

I read that polling showed Ron Paul would lose the district 39% to 61%, but i don't have a link for the data, does anyone know of any polling conducted?

I think you read that here (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=115753). It's NOT true.

The "poll" came from a reading-challenged Hannity supporter. What he was talking about comes from the Hill in November 2007, written by known Paul-hater David Hill. Also the poll was conducted in 2004, and it has nothing to do with a straight-up "do you support or oppose Ron Paul" thing. Here is what Hill wrote in 11/2007:

"In 2004, disgruntled Republicans asked me to find encouragement for challengers. We polled his suburban Houston district and found that voters resist his contrarian and stark libertarian perspective that even sells out local interests. When told that “Ron Paul consistently opposes taxpayer funding for NASA and wants to eliminate the agency,” 61 percent of Republican primary voters said this information would make them less likely to vote for Paul’s reelection."

Pretty dishonest by that Hannity poster, huh? The story, from November 2007, was mildly recent...but the poll was not recent at all. And no one votes based on the big issue of NASA. This poll is 100% irrelevant now.

Paul himself says his own internal polling data in the district is "reassuring" and a staff member of his said he has a 70% job approval rating in TX-14. Paul is no fool, if he really believed he was in danger of losing his house seat he'd quit his presidential run and defend his district with all that presidential cash, not give speechs in the state of Washington.

HAHAHAHAHA!

This is what happens when you believe your own hype without looking into it first: you look as dumb as the "Lone Star Times" usually does.

That Peden guy is a trip "My name is Chris Peden. I'm a Pro-Family, Pro-Life Christian conservative who believes in free markets and individual responsibility. "conservative and supports the war in Iraq" thats a fucking Oxymoron..

apparently he caters to NASA.."supporter of NASA and the space program"
.something RP refuses to do.

Chris regularly volunteers to travel to Washington, D.C (who pays for those tickets i wonder?) as a member of Citizens for Space Exploration whose mission is to promote awareness of the benefits of human space exploration and support for NASA (again catering to NASA)

then goes on to say "I support winning the Global War on Terror and the War on Drugs, I think Islamo-Fascist terrorists were responsible for the 9/11 attacks; the incumbent thinks America's Middle East policy's were responsible for the attacks.I support fully funding NASA's budget and the Vision for Space Exploration; the incumbent does not. I will support and vote for the Republican nominee for U.S. President in 2008, the incumbent will not (unless it's him.)"

FYI Peden...you cant "Win" a war on Terror or a war on Drugs... as long as you have people motivated and money to be made you can't "Win"

I also hear that he likes to hang around in airport men's rooms :D (j/k)

edit: adding a snip from the article:

But then Roll Call decided to do a little research...

Peden closed the third quarter with just $363 in cash on hand, while raising just $8,654 for the period.

In case you're wondering, that puts the "official" FEC numbers for his campaign at exactly $109, 637 short of the claimed mark...which may also explain the constant rumors we are hearing about Peden's desire to obtain a ballot spot by petition signatures rather thanthe standard $2000 filing fee.

I do think we all should throw in $10 or $25 to his congress bid, just to ensure a great victory. Although we are aiming for the presidency, should we not get it we sure as heck want his voice to be heard in Washington still. There's no reason we can't do both, and this surely is something the people in the $2300 club can contribute to (this is different from your donation to the presidential campaign)

How about sending him some money for his Congressional bid?

Show him we still care just as much as always!

Money bomb for Congress!

Someone pick a day and let's send him some big bucks. He can still do a hell of a lot as a Congressman if he has a few million making calls to Congress to get them to support his bills.

We can still change the country. It will just take a little more work. We had to change Congress anyway or a Paul presidency would be ineffective. So, let's change it over the next four years and then next time have a country that is ready for all of this.

Chris Peden is a Republican trying to unseat Dr. Paul. A few weeks ago in response to a request I heard on RPR, I went to Peden's website and read his platform and credentials. then I wrote a somewhat scathing letter in Support of Dr. Paul.

He believes int the Horrendous "Fair Tax" and is pro war.

After reading his stand on the issues, I was "forced" to respond. :D:D:D

At that time I saw no smear campaign.

Nicely put.

So, let's go back to the idea of sending Ron Paul a money bomb for his congressional seat. If people don't want to join in, there is nothing forcing them to. For the rest of us, he needs money quickly, right. The race is in March. How about a week from today? Give us time to get the word out and let's get him a few million to fight this guy?

Anyone game? I think Saturdays are better than Fridays, so how about 2/16/08 - the Congressional bomb! Make sure you give folks his congressional address to send the money to so there is no confusion. If you maxed out on his Presidential race you can jump in again and donate to him. Is the limit 2300 for a Congressional bid too?

If you read Dr. Paul's most recent letter, you'll see this is not the case. Dr. Paul will not win the white house, and he will not run 3rd party. http://www.defendthedistrict.com
http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com/
Let's show this Peden guy who he's dealing with!

Here is the garbage being flung at his constituents:

[We are almost to Lake Jackson now and will be spending time in the district campaigning for Ron. No matter what we still need his voice in Congress. I am praying for a miracle and he will be nominated but if not then lets don't lose him altogether.

We the grassroots have propelled Dr. Paul to a elevated position we still have a long way to go. The Campaign Committee has both slammed us in the face with incompetence and arrogance, that cannot make us so angry that we lose focus on our goals. The goal is to get Ron in the White house. Lets just do it.

With the dismal showing in the primary's we all became so disheartened because we believed all the computer gurus posting about wild resonses to our Candidate. Some are true but notice that while winning all the polls online has nothing to do with reality.. It only takes a click of the mouse to win a poll, to win a delegate it takes shutting down the computer and getting dressed and out to the streets. The primary votes showed that while people will absolutely vote in a poll they are too damned lazy to get dressed and go and vote in the voting booth. The internet is only a tool, it is not a weapon. to win this we have to get away from the internet and get into the main stream where most folks don't even have a computer or want one. We have to get back to the real world.

No doubt if the primary voting was done online Dr.Paul would have taken the country by storm. Too bad those very people voting over and over on the polls didn't take the time to cast a real vote.

The Lies of Chris Peden

On his endorsement page:

Garrett Womack, Pearland, TX/Feb 1, 2008, local GOP staffer says ...
" When I first found out about Chris I was excited...
compared to Ron Paul Chris looks like a true conservative.

This is why I endorse Chris Peden. "
The real comment was submitted the other way around by someone from these forums. They edited what he really said. LIE

the incumbent is a self-described Libertarian. I support winning the Global War on Terror and the War on Drugs; the incumbent does not. I think Islamo-Fascist terrorists were responsible for the 9/11 attacks; the incumbent thinks America's Middle East policy's were responsible for the attacks. I support fully funding NASA's budget and the Vision for Space Exploration; the incumbent does not. I will support and vote for the Republican nominee for U.S. President in 2008, the incumbent will not (unless it's him.)
Chris, you just contradicted yourself... conservative? Warmonger. Spender. Idiot. LIAR.

It is clear that I better represent the priorities and the values of the voters in the 14th congressional district.
You don't have any values. You're attacking a 72 year old man who the people love very much. You're a filthy liar and you don't have any values or morals.

If you agree that it is time for a change, send me to Washington. D.C, so that I deliver conservative results...for a change.
You will change nothing. You want to keep things exactly as bad as they were and exactly as bad as President Bush, who has VERY low approving ratings, has made it. LIE.

The men and women of the United States military honor us each day with their service and sacrifice. They deserve our respect, our prayers and deepest gratitude. If I am elected as your member of Congress, I pledge my commitment to secure the resources that our service men and women need to fulfill their mission as they safeguard our liberties.

Friendswood Mayor Pro tem Chris Peden, who is running against Paul, said his experience as a certified public accountant and on City Council will help him succeed in Congress.

“I will work to get things done, not just talk about getting things done,” Peden said. “One of the differences between my opponent and I is I have a set of principles, and I believe those principles are sound.”

I hope he's referring to Mann...

So has someone contacted trevor and asked if he will use his mailing list to set up a moneybomb. We should set it for about 2 to 3 weeks from now with the goal of getting 10,000 people to sign up. $50 a person for a total of $500,000. That should be enough to scare off any new commers.

I've been "with you" since the beginning.

I know you're upset. But as far as I can tell.. he has not dropped out.

He's still running for president. I'm still supporting his presidential campaign.

You're the one acting as though he's dropped out. Closed up shop.

He has been running for congress simultaneously... this entire time. This is nothing new. I donated to his congressional campaign a month ago, and again last week.

Exactly Enzo. The TEXAS Presidential primary is not over. For him to promote himself in Texas, it helps both campaigns.

But ANYONE who thinks that this is just about the Presidential bid is living in a fantasy world.

Even if he WON the nomination he'd still have to win the general election, and even if he won that, he'd still be blocked by a DEM controlled Congress. Yes, it would be a great first step but all of our problems aren't solved EVEN IF HE BECAME PRESIDENT!!!!!

If you are in this just to support Ron Paul, then you would support him in whatever he is doing. If you are here to support his MESSAGE, then we need to do all we can to make sure he still has a platform to deliver it, whether it is on the Presidential campaign trail (which he is still doing) or in Congress.

But it sounds to me like some people want NEITHER. They are just on the bandwagon and like the idea of promoting the underdog and now want to pout in the corner because their "team" isn't winning.

Grow the fuck up. We're in the REAL world.

"Ron Paul is a genius. He amassed a war chest of 30 million dollars, spent almost none of it, and now goes back to Congress. He can use that campaign money to guarantee his reelection to the House for the rest of his life, or probably even get himself a Senate seat. Genius, I tell you. 99% of those people would not have donated a single Amero to help he retain his seat in Congress or for a Senate run and he knew it. Now he's flush and sitting pretty."

This couldn't be true- could it?:(

I don't think so. Not a dime of his money raised to secure the nomination can be used for his congressional race. I think he can use some/all of the money he raises for the general election campaign, but I don't think he's raising money for that yet.

Look at this!

The neocons on FR are trying to unseat him:

---
If any FReeper wants to send Rep. Ron Paul into retirement, please go to his able Republican Primary opponent, Chris Peden's website and donate as generously as you can.

* For full disclosure, I'm working on Chris' campaign. If you have questions about Chris' background or position on an issue that are not apparent on his website, FReep mail me and I'll try to get back to you with an answer or forward it on to Chris, if I can't answer it myself. I can assure you that Chris is solid on issues that most FReepers care deeply about. We are all working hard to unseat Rep. Ron Paul this Primary, as there is no Democrat that has filed. So our November is in March, less than a month away and we will be Paulbot free in TX CD 14.

My reply to that article - Should we have a Viva La Revolution website or something???? -

As an avid admirer of the good Dr. Ron Paul and a contributer to his Presidential Campaign - I for one would not be the LEAST BIT OFFENDED if he used my contributions to augment his Congressional Campaign - there is NO DISHONOR and certainly NO DISGRACE in using what ever funds have been sent to him to allow him to remain in Washington in what ever capacity the Lord will allow. It is now also my lifelong ambition to replace each and every member of the Whitehouse with simialrly minded individuals - thus turning the whole of congress and the senate into a majority of Freedom Fighting, Liberty Loving, Constitutionalists!

Here is a great article I found on Chris Peden's fund raising ability...

http://countyseat.blogspot.com/2008/02/chris-pedens-cash-redux.html

(sorry if anyone else has already linked)

Sounds like he's another Romney, trying to just buy an office with his own $.

134,000 dollars of his own money. Paul's republican primary opponent in 2006, Cynthia Sinatra, spent 150,000 of her own money trying to unseat Paul. She lost by 56 percentage points.

Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it....

Just left a voicemail for Mr. Peden. I left my name & number, told him I was calling from New Hampshire and that even though I am not a resident of his district, I just donated $100.00 to Dr. Paul's congressional campaign. I said that the information on Peden's own website spurred me to donate to Dr. Paul (esp. the blame America for 9/11 statement), as I could never believe Peden was trustworthy after what he wrote on his own site.

I was very polite until perhaps my last line: "Mr. Peden, at this point, I believe you're toast."

Strictly from some of the chatter here, Peden sounds like a basically "good" man. But, genteel and naive candidates are always promoted by the powers supporting them. This country is in a mess, because naive men are willing to run for office, and must then serve their masters once elected. We need principled candidates like Ron Paul that stand on constitutional principle and can NOT be bought and sold. Someone explain the latter issue to Peden, because I don't think he understands. Has Peden ever run for office before seeking Ron's seat?

Not true on multiple counts!

1) This forum is bigger than one presidential race. It's about spreading the message of Freedom, Peace, and Prosperity; Liberty; handing over a better country to the next generation.

RP has told us multiple times that the movement is bigger than himself - that he's merely a part of a revolution.

2) Money spent on the congressional campaign raises awareness and publicity in the 14th district of TX. People who go to the polls intending to vote RP for congress imo will have a greater likelihood of intending to vote RP for president.

3) If you win your own congressional district, you gain credibility as a presidential candidate.

RP is the champion of the constitution, and one way or the other, we need him to continue fighting to uphold the constitution.

I don't think this is a "distraction" at all. If Ron's supporters have maxed out on his presidential campaign, then they have every right to donate to his congressional campaign and those of other "Paulian" candidates. The blimp is grounded now, and I think there are far too many grassroots projects out there siphoning money away from the Big Picture. I donated to the Blimp, and also to Operation Live Free or Die (as did my children). But like many others here, I have no "disposable" income. I own no XBox/Wii/HD-PlasmaTV/New-fangled gadgets- my home is paid for, I have no credit card debts. I have always lived within my means.

But because we believe so strongly in Ron Paul and his message, both my spouse and I took on extra jobs to make a little more money. We use coupons and buy store brand foods, cut back on red meat (honestly this has been great for us!) all so we could both afford to max out. And we will continue to support Ron Paul AND his message, no matter who is delivering it. In my state, that is Jim Forsythe, and we are also donating to his congressional campaign. We are putting our money where our mouths are, because Ron's MESSAGE will help ensure that he will no longer be the "Lone Vote" in Congress.

So if anyone has maxed out on donations for Ron's presidential campaign, please consider donating to his congressional campaign, as well as the campaigns of other "Paulian" candidates in your state.

Also, working to get the word out about Peden (need not cost anything) will show him and others like him that We, the People have had enough, and we're not going to take it any more!

Maybe you fail to understand, so since I'm seeing quite a few of these whiney posts, I'll explain how this works. If Dr. Paul fails to keep his congressional seat, it will pretty much doom any further presidential aspirations. So, yes, this is a presidential campaign themed forum, but we need to keep the congressional campaign afloat so we can have a presidential campaign to work on. Got it?

Even Dr. Paul's letter mentioned that this comes first.
