Its good that you didn't mention Ron Paul in the Digg text, so this will be off the radar from that bury brigade. :D

Yeah, that's been my general strategy for submitting Digg stories. They eventually catch on, but that takes the wind out of their sails.

niiice. What's the creator's (who?) opinion on use of this in other markets? Obviously would need to replace the Ames Straw Poll info with relevant material...

That is an absolutely brilliant and beautiful piece of art. Yes, advertising is art, too.

Something about seeing "We the People" really struck me. I got goosebumps, even. Maybe it's because I'm playing Pachelbel's Canon in D in the background, too. hehe

I was watching Elizabeth I with Helen Mirren playing the Queen, and the concept of the "royal 'We'" fascinates me.

When I saw this ad, it really forced me to realize that We the People are the royal we.

EDIT: And I'm glad "We are Ron Paul" was not included. Something about hero worship really creeps me out...

I am working in the GOP booth at the Montgomery County Maryland County fair this weekend. I would love to print up a bunch of those, with the Ames info edited out, to hand out. This hardcore blue-state country and slims-jims will go over like a lead balloon. This is just the kind of material those of us in the belly of the beast need. Please, may I have your permission to use it?

Any of the Mosaic pics can be used any way you like to promote Ron Paul.
I'm gonna start mixing up the pics a bit, using different images.
Check the archive for other pics if the one on the front page doesn't float yer boat.

I think Lord Xar is currently uploading the full-scale version of the image to Razmear's server. It's a hefty beast at 100MB. :D

Look here:

You may want to PM Xar with questions or requests.

You'll want one that's at least 230dpi for printing.

I hope it is not too late to make a correction to this, but in the last line it should read:

candidate's

Not:

candidates

Yeah, I caught that too, but I think it's too late. That's just a minor thing, anyway... :)

If we ever fix the text, we should add the word "and" before "secure", and we should also add the word "do" before "hereby". (preamble)

I'd probably also add a period after "Security" (RP quote)

It's too late for edits. If all we messed up was an apostrophe, thats pretty damn good.

Agree, but I think we may want to reuse the ad for other events.

Here's the text of the original article dated Aug 9 2007 by R. Kent Nowviskie:

Political pundits and talking heads across the globe have lately begun to take notice of the overwhelming grassroots support for Ron Paul's candidacy for the office of President of the United States. People everywhere have been scratching their heads at the numbers of people using the internet to organize for Dr. Paul, independent of official guidance from the campaign HQ, and wondering whether it translates to real-world support.

Well, residents of and visitors to Ames, Iowa are going to see one shining example of the way Ron Paul's grassroots internet support certainly does translate to the real world, when they wake up Saturday morning, pour a cup of coffee, and open the Ames Tribune to find this beautiful, full-color, full-page ad urging them to vote for Paul in that day's pivotal Ames Straw Poll.

It was only a day ago that private supporters of Ron Paul, at no urging from the campaign, began to circulate the idea of running an ad in an Iowa newspaper to encourage people to vote for Paul in the straw poll this Saturday. Soon someone had suggested that the ad feature a mosaic made to resemble an image of Dr. Paul and composed of the pictures of the many individual Americans who have added their faces to the ever-expanding Online Ron Paul Rally (http://mosaic.osc.co.cr).

A request for pricing went out to the newspaper, and a call for donations went out to Paul's supporters. It was determined that a full-page ad would cost $2,800.00 for the Saturday morning edition. Within 24 hours, approximately $3,000.00 in private contributions had been raised to pay for the ad.

Ideas were bandied about, prototypes were designed, and soon it had been proposed that the mosaic should be laid over an image of the Constitution, with the focus on "We the People" who support Ron Paul's run for the presidency. A designer got to work, further refinements were made, and the result is the absolutely stunning image you see above.

The other candidates in this race may boast bigger bank accounts. They may host larger fundraisers and throw more lavish parties. But I guarantee you that not a single one of them can claim to have such a dedicated, creative, motivated, and resourceful following among We the People as does Congressman Paul.

The good people of Ames are going to rise from their slumber on Saturday morning and see that fact staring at them in full color.
