I have often wondered how personality types and possibly genetics add to what makes America what it is. It has been my thought there was a commonality among America's first who were willing to risk it all on a dream and take off to a foreign land.

From this poll it shows that we share a rare personality type and I wonder how closely it ties into our ancestors.

For instance, I am an INTJ and my last ancestor to immigrate to the new world was in 1882. All other ancestors arrived prior to 1850 with a couple lines that go back to the first French settlers in Acadia (1630).

Here are some articles that deal with personality types and genetics.

It is my theory that persons who share libertarian/conservative ideas are more likely to have ancestors that arrived prior to Ellis Island and that people who share the Democrats views arrived during or after Ellis Island. I guess it could be argued that Ellis Island arrivals could share a mixture of both personality types.

Looks like mostly INT's, but the immigration timeline seems to break down pretty evenly at this point.

My dad came here from Greece after Ellis Island. My mom was born here (the rest of her siblings were born in Greece), but lived in Greece for most of her early childhood, so I consider myself first generation.
