BECOME DELEGATES!!!
HELENA - Less than 36 hours after winning Montana's Republican caucus, Mitt Romney suspended his national presidential campaign Thursday, yet he still retains control of this state's 25 nominating convention votes.
By Romney “suspending” his campaign instead of “withdrawing” as a candidate, the 25 Montana Republican delegates are bound by party rules to vote for him on the first ballot at the national convention in St. Paul, Minn., in September. They can vote for anyone they want in later ballots there. The 25 Montana delegates will be chosen at a statewide convention in June.
The only way these delegates can be freed of their obligation to vote for Romney on the first ballot is if he withdraws as a candidate - or if he formally releases them to vote for the candidate of their choice.
