Sorry, the assumption was, of course, if you're Republican leaning in general.

Birdlady
08-09-2007, 06:54 PM
I wouldn't be voting at all.

Eli

stupid question. I'd still vote for ron paul.

None of the above.

I'd likely vote for the LP candidate.

I'd still be registered Democrat and voting and campaigning for Kucinich.

I would have to pass, I have voted 100% Republican for POTUS since 1980 and all it's got me is a severe case of the red ass!!

Libertarian, maybe Democrat, or maybe not vote.

None of the above. I would vote LP for sure.

I'd probably skip the primary, but if I did go to it, I'd write in Ron Paul. Then I'd vote LP in the general.

We absolutely cannot settle for anyone but Ron Paul in this election! Ron Paul HAS to win. We need a president that we can trust with the new powers passed by Bush. We need someone to undo what the Bush administration has done. Everyone else would probably just take advantage of it, which would be a nightmare.

I actually wrote something on this last night (about why Ron Paul has to win the election), but I haven't posted it yet. Maybe I'll make a new thread here in a little bit.

richard1984

Oh, and I didn't vote in the poll. If Dr. Paul doesn't win the nomination, I'll be busy planning my future as an expatriate. I’ve gotta protect my family.

Harry96
08-09-2007, 07:06 PM
I wouldn't even be following the election closely. If I voted in the general, it'd probably be for the LP candidate, depending on who it is.

To put it mildly. I would rather have a colonoscopy than vote for any of the people mentioned in the poll.

I would find something meaningful to do with my Tuesday, other than giving my tiny bit of mandate to a fascist.

Poll needs to include NOTA as an option.

This poll is like sitting down at Bob's Steakhouse about to dig into a perfectly aged piece of meat and then being asked if you'd be willing to settle for McDonald's, Jack-in-the-box, Wendy's or Burger King.

I wouldn't vote for ANY of these! Instead of one of the CFR members masquerading as Republicans (Rudy, McCain, etc.) I'd pick one of the two non-bought and paid for Dems, either Mike Gravel or Dennis Kucinich. Probably Mike.

Omnis

I'd vote Huckabee in the primaries and then go check out the libertarian or constitution party candidates.

edit: Oh wait, I wasn't aware of the "write-in." I'm 18 and this is my first election. Yeah, I would certainly write-in Ron if necessary.

Under the assumption that this poll is intended for Republican leaners, and assumes Ron Paul running for president at all would simply not have come to be, i'm going to take this seriously and actually vote for someone on here. Knowing what i know, but subtracting Ron paul from the equation (which is hard because i certainly wouldnt know what i know about the other candidates, though i still would have scrutinized them some), i'd probably have voted for Huckabee or Fred Thompson (keep in mind, i likely would have the same principles of small government conservatism, but without the knowledge of things like the CFR etc). I would have voted Obama but would have also realized that he is for socialized medicine - and kucinich/gravel are gun control fanatics - at least Thompson/Huckabee would let us keep our guns, slowing the progress of the police state. Huckabee is a little crazy with the creationism and stuff, but he seems like a good guy and he is not bought and paid from what i know of him, he is just misguided on the war. Hes good on taxes, health care, immigration, guns, entitlements, education, etc, but bad on the war and patriot act and separation of church and state.... he's basically a neocon that is NOT bought and paid for, which would worry me, but would be preferable to any of the other republicans, and better than any of the statist democrats IMO (lets face it, democrats arent going to end the war either, except maybe Obama, but then he'll just start worse conflicts. Oh and you can guarantee that under a democrat we will go into sudan).

That being said, thank God for Ron Paul.

Who would I vote for?

I think two things can happen:

Scenario One: Dr. Paul runs third party.

Second Scenario: Paul doesn't. Endorses Libertarian Candidate and goes to the sidelines.

I think the second thing would be smarter. Why? Without RP, the republicans will lose in any case. But if Paul runs 3rd party, he will make a lot of enemies in the Republican party blaming him for the loss as the Democrats do Nader for Gore in 2000.

The Republicans lose. Hillary gets in. Iraq gets prolonged into an eternal occupation. Dr. Paul sweeps the 2012 primaries.

Then Dr. Paul becomes the oldest President ever elected in 2012.

I think I will vote Libertarian if RP does not get the Primary nod. I was going to vote Democrat to punish the RP, but I would be punishing myself. Hopefully if the Libertarians get enough votes, they can start to emerge as a truly viable 3rd party.

Of course, I'd rather see him elected into office in 2008!

Not gonna happen. He would lose his House seat.

I wish he was 10-20 years younger. I don't think he will be running for anything in 2012.

I didn't vote. Based on their rhetoric I like Huckabee the 2nd best, but based on his voting record I don't think I could vote for the guy. He talks a great game but then his record is full of tax and spend programs.

I'm pretty sure I'd vote Libertarian if I couldn't vote for Paul.

LizF

To echo some of the others: "None of the above"; I'd write in RP.

If, and only if, RP didn't exist, might I consider voting for a Dem (Kucinich & Gravel, even though both have their shortcomings) or 3rd party.
