Read the rules of the GOP.

If you have such a rule could you please link it.

This was in the mailing list....

Romney's delegates aren't free because he simply "suspended" his
campaign instead of "dropping out." I think that the party heads are
figuring out what is going on. They realize that if Romney and McCain
split the remaining delegates with a few going to Huckabee and Paul,
they will definitely have a brokered convention. My understanding is
that they don't want to do that because a large number of Ron Paul
supporters signed up to be delegates. Although they have to vote for
the candidate their state committed them to in the first round, they
are then free to vote for whoever they want in the following rounds.

What mailing list is this? Is there an actual GOP rule? And I'm sure it is different in most states.

the state gop decides what happens to them

This is what CNN says

Suspending a campaign has a different meaning depending on the party.

On the Republican side, decisions on how to allocate delegates are left to the state parties.

On the Democratic side, a candidate who "suspends" is technically still a candidate, so he or she keeps both district and statewide delegates won through primaries and caucuses. Superdelegates are always free to support any candidate at any time, whether the candidate drops out, suspends or stays in.

Montana Republicans - you're fight is not over! In June, Montana will hold the Montana Republican Party's State Convention. That is where they will elect 25 delegates to represent Montana. Sure, they are bound to vote for the winner, but as long as we have supporters as delegates, we have a better chance of getting the nomination.

Sign up for email updates or just remind yourself to check for the official date in June at:

This is what CNN says

That would apply to Montana, but it was the state officials that elected Montana's national delegates in the first place.

As a delegate you can get voted for one of Romneys slots then when at the National convention change your vote. Slick eh? Dont imagine many there will be gung ho to represent a suspended candidate.

Only the bound national delegates are under direction of the state GOP. In the case of Montana, there is a large Ron Paul movement within the the state's local GOP. Ron Paul came in second and it was GOP officials and legislature that voted for him. I could see Romney's delegates being given to Ron Paul.

Montana has no delegates yet. They will be elected in June. So, it is still possible for Ron Paul supporters to become delegates in June. They may be bound to vote for Mitt on the first round, but they can vote for Ron Paul any time after that.

This is what CNN says

Why is CNN the only source I've seen that 'explains' this?
I'd like to see it explained a little better by another source other than CNN.
I don't know about you but CNN is not a very reliable source.

I call BS on this unless you can somehow back it up.

Romney wants to take "his" delegates to the convention so they can have fun. All indications here is that the delegates are really Dr. Paul supporters. Then again I have seen such unsubstantiated optimism here before. Remember we were to win Alaska.
