The AP and other media outlets are trying to pretend that John McCain has the nomination locked up with Romney suspending his campaign, despite the delegate math and Huckabee's obvious advantage in some of the upcoming states. The media saying "McCain has it locked up" is a great gift to the Ron Paul campaign, though, and here's why:

One of the biggest objections people had to voting for Ron Paul was that "he can't win" -- they wanted to have a say in the race, so they voted for some other candidate they liked less than Ron Paul. Exit polls confirmed this in Michigan, where 12% thought he was the best choice to lead the country, but only 6% voted for him.

Well guess what? If McCain really has it locked up, voters in the upcoming states don't have to worry about wasting their vote, or trying to impact the outcome. If McCain really has it locked up, they can feel free to vote for Ron Paul.

They can vote for Ron Paul as a protest, since McCain isn't conservative.
They can vote for Ron Paul as a show of support, to show they agree with him.
They can vote for Ron Paul to send a message to McCain to toe the line and be a better Republican.
