For the last 4 days I have been unable to enter this site. Internet Explorer through Embarq lines in N.C.
Still trying to resolve this through I.E. or Embarq. Just wondering if any have this same trouble.
I have 2 direct and two wireless. none can get ronpaul2008.com.

Edit:
A resolve from senior member derdy:
put this address in your address bar: 74.205.85.12

Still working on a server end. All lines are closed and I will not be able to resolve until tomarrow.

Embarq doesn't like Ron PAul's website - I cant get to it on our systems at work because of Embarq - but it works just fine at home on my Brighthouse DSL.

Do a tracert to the site and see where it breaks.

Guys it is Embarq. Same problem with me at my home. They must have blocked the site?

So can someone please do a tracert on their computer and see where it's failing?

Preferably one of the people who are having trouble visiting the site. :p

I'm curious where this ISP is blocking the site.

Is embarq your ISP?

If in fact his/her Internet Service Provider is blocking access they could always set up a proxy connection in their browser preferences.

Before troubleshooting connection related issues we need to make sure the person is entering the URL correctly. Simple user error may be a factor here. LOL.

Post a screenshot of the output. We'll be able to see if your ISP is blocking it, or if they're experiencing bad routing somewhere.

sounds like a dns issue

try this. put this address in your address bar: 74.205.85.12

see if that works. if it does you'll have to create a dns entry in your hosts file

Just a question Derdy. Why would my host not have this? It has been available before.

it's pretty easy to fix from here.

navigate to here
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
open the 'hosts' file with wordpad

there's an example of what format you would use for an entry.
your entry should look like this:

74.205.85.12 www.ronpaul2008.com

Save the changes. Go back to internet explorer and type in www.ronpaul2008.com and that should fix it for good even if embarq's dns servers aren't resolving it

derdy

Just a question Derdy. Why would my host not have this? It has been available before.

your host file didn't have it. your computer checks the host file first and if nothing is in there it checks the dns servers which are provided by your isp

apparently, your isp's dns servers don't have the entry anymore. by putting an entry in your hosts file, your computer will go there first and not look to the dns server

derdy

see the example i gave to bandaid this and then call and bitch at embarq until they fix their dns servers

Yeah, I'm not sure what your tech friend is going to be able to do unless he works for your ISP. Now that we found the exact problem, call them up and explain to them that they need to fix their DNS servers.

Thanks alot. Derdy I'll do that.
I am also calling Embarq tonight.
Not that I'm a conspiracy nut, but I do believe that if I am paying I should get what I want.
I do have other options.

derdy

btw this is a great prank you can play on your friends.

if you know what their favorite website is, you can go into their host file and enter the ip for ronpaul2008.com (74.205.85.12) and associate it for, say, hannityforums.com :D

so you'd do this:
74.205.85.12 www.hannityforums.com

next time they try to go to hannityforums they'll go to ronpaul2008.com instead :D

I have been having the same problem and I have Embarq. My problem started after I clicked on a link to a digg article. The individual was explaining about fixing broken links and how to copy the link and paste in a seperate window then remove the 0, I have looked for that thread for a few days so I could contact that person to see if somehow that might have caused my problems w/o luck so far.
Since I tried to do what that person was telling people to do I have not been able to pull up ronpaul2008, youtube, or digg. Not by opening a new page or by clicking on a link through google. I wish I was I was tech savy :(

Hey bud no disrespect. You all helped me solve it. I needed my tech friend thats a republican but not a "commited" Ron Paul Republican to come "help" me this weekend anyway.

and I'm calling Embarq right now. Just because you all taught me the "End Run" doesn't mean that the neighbors that see my Ron Paul mobile won't be able to get through.

Calling them now. If negotiating solutions in past debates with ISPs are any indication I will repost in about 2 hrs.

You also have the option of simply using a different DNS server. I didn't feel like making graphics for this one, but this is a pretty good site describing the process.

https://www.opendns.com/start/windows_xp.php

I do have to say though, this is rather odd. I've never seen an ISP DNS server have issues like this.

This does come with some security issues though, so I don't recommend using 3rd party DNS servers for sensitive things like online banking, but for general browsing, it's a better solution than waiting for your ISP to fix the issue, or remember site IPs.

I got thru on the chat line from myembarq.com. Worked with an analysis for an hour. He said he contacted a network engineer who said they traced the problem to outside the embarq network and it would be 24 to 48 hours to fix.

So what do you think the issue was? I've personally never heard of DNS entries just mysteriously disappearing from a server. I especially don't buy the network engineer saying it was something outside the network, I know many reps are always told to gave vague reasons implying the company is never at fault.

mine still doesn't work. Just so everyone knows, I live in a rural region. You don't have many internet choices, I am on the border of IL. I bet people in our area just never got on nor couldn't because, like I said, not many choices. It's embarq, cable or satellite. Only 3 choices and since embarq is the ONLY phone company, you can guess what people pick.
