Huckabee Delegate Confirms Deal with Paul Supporters.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- One of the national delegates won by Mike Huckabee during West Virginia's Republican presidential convention says there was a behind-the-scenes deal with Ron Paul's backers.

Greg Smith of Wood County says Paul supporters were offered three of the 18 national convention seats won by Huckabee. In exchange, Paul supporters provided the votes that gave Huckabee the winning majority.

Smith says the deal didn't involved Huckabee's national campaign, which has denied promising any delegates to Paul.

Smith also says Paul supporters accepted the offer after rejecting a promise of five national delegates from Mitt Romney's camp.

Romney spokeswoman Gail Gitcho declined comment, saying she knew nothing of the allegations.

in hindsight, if dealt with romney, both romney and huckabee might be out today. but it allowed huckabee to exceed expectations.

I have a lot more respect for Huck's followers than I do for him. Most of them anyway.

I heard Paul camp was pushing for Romney, and my friend's husband walked out in disgust... wonder what made them change their minds to Huck for 3 delegates instead of Romney's 5?

It was explained earlier - Romney's camp were being jerks to the Paul people while the Huckabee people were nice. Also the offer of 5 was not trusted by the Paul people.
