We did it! With the help of the awesome efforts from the grassroots, we raised enough funds to cover the costs to start production on the Austin, Texas billboard. We still need to reach this goal to cover the remanding costs of leasing this location for 4 weeks. We can't thank all the people who contributed to make this happen enough. We are expecting the billboard to launch early next week.

Ron Paul for the long haul!

Pictures are of actual billboard we will install our Ron Paul design on.

We put Freedom, Peace and Prosperity on a billboard that is going up in Stevens Point, WI. You are welcome to use the slogan if you can find the room, or we can start another chipin widget if you find another board!

Thanks for the support and offer. When we first started this we explored using designs with the three words similar to what you have. We decided that we wanted to put the issues on the billboards because it is imperative that we inform the public of the issues he stands for. The Anti-War vote is huge down here so that will attract all of the Dems, Libs, and Indys down here. Texas is an open primary so anyone can vote. Our next plan is to launch mobile billboard trucks to have a ground presence and flexibility by parking it and having big sign wave events and get drivers to come to us and they can get info and we can reach them one on one. This will be a huge attention getter and practically everyone in Austin will see it or hear about it in weeks time. This will be big. Congrats on launching yours up in Wisconsin.

Ron Paul for the long haul!

I don't like the ad, that's just my $0.02. I would address what information you put up on the billboard.

Talking about the Constitution is basically meaningless, the general public is clueless so its not going to win votes.

You should talk about securing our borders....this is going to be up in Texas right...for a republican primary election? 1+1 = 2 in my book.

Gun rights might also be a good issue.

Great work on getting the ad up.

How are things looking in Texas?

The quote above highlights the line of attack I think will prove most effective in Texas. Gun rights, stopping illegals, lower taxes - Ron's record on these is perfect. Huckabee is a socialist and McCain works with Ted Kennedy to grant amnesty - let's make Ron the way conservatives can protest against McAmnesty. Go hard.

My two cents:

Texas is hugely against the NAFTA highway, no? And against illegal immigration? I think Ron Paul's position on both should be spotlighted.

Yes. And pro-gun rights and anti-tax and spend.

Texas ought to be our goldmine. I want Ron to go all out there - get every sympathetic group, run ads constantly - make sure people know McCain's and Huck's record on amnesty. If we can stop McCain in one of the biggest states in the USA it will make people believe again.

What's happening in Texas?

How many congressional districts are there? (I ask since I wonder how much influence Ron's district will have... does anyone know?)

This is the access road on the side of th freeway.

I posted several photos of the view from the highway and the street level so you can see the billboard.

If you listen to every debate like I have, for example the CNN was the last one.

Whenever he discusses strenghthening the dollar, the expensive and unconstitutional war he receives the biggest applauses. Time and time again.

The Constitution, the war and the economy are issues he talks about in every debate and he gets the applause that disrupts the debates when he talks about these 3 issues so thats why they are on the billboard.

You have to target your market and these issues are the biggest in Austin.

We have the biggest group of Independent and Anti war Constitutional voters down here and we can reach them with these ads.

In none of these debates has theses other issues had a big response from the crowd. We have to go with a broad enough issues that will reach the most people.

There are billboards and ads with no issues and just words like Peace and freedom.

We have issues and they are the ones he receives the most applause for in every debate just watch Youtube or Google.

The billboard will be seen by Millions there is no way anyone can miss it.

We can't put every single issue on the billboard.

We are targeting each market specifically and these issues will attract all voters in Austin.

It's an open primary anyone can vote.

Once they go to the website they will see all of his issue stances.

It's off of the heart of downtown Austin and everyone drives by it and will see it.
Please someone from Austin help me with this for the out of towners.

It is off of 6th street one of the biggest party block in the country. It's in a parking lot that is very popular that several people park at, so on the ground we will have plenty of visibility from people partying downtown.

These are all prime locations within Austin at $8,000k for billboards.

AWESOME in every way!!!

Thanks for all your work!!!!!

Thanks!

The work behind the scenes to get this going was an heroic effort. I work nights from 7pm to 7am and on Wednesday I was up for 24 hours collecting money and getting it all together. then I had to drive up to the office and hand deliver the checks and contract because they don't take credit cards. I made it just at 5pm on Wednesday. This enabled us to go to launch early next week. This is harder than it seems and the owner of the first billboard we were going to lease messed up everything for us by adding $4,000 for the installation at the last minute and then acting ao shady about the contractors for installation. All the hard work paid off and we will have a billboard that will reach millions that was launched in one of the most expensive and heavily traveled markets. And this after Super Tuesday when the media and some in the grassroots have given up on him. We have resolve and are not going to stop even after this election cycle. We are here for the long haul!

We still need $1,700 to cover the costs of this billboard that costs $8,000.
Please help us by contributing to our Austin billboard to help us recoup personal funds used
for this and to help us continue to launch Mobile billboard trucks and billboards in other states.

yes, this is highly visible... and traffic in this particular part of town is at standstill nearly 24/7.

I-35, 183 and 77 are the major North-South routes through texas, I35 being the largest.

this is on I-35, just as you come into downtown austin from the South, though it will not be visible to those passing through from the north.

excellent spot IMO

This billboard design and issue targets Austin and the downtown area perfectly.
The white letters will stick out and people will be able to read them in the day and night. That is why these billion dollar companies have like 4 billboards in the same area with the same color scheme.

This will be big, everyone driving downtown will see it and the whole city will know about it in weeks.

250,000 daily drive past this billboard and most of the time it is stacked with traffic!

Strengthen the dollar!

This is huge and no other candidate talks about this. The MSM even talks about the crashing dollar and the hosts who have any knowledge state this as the reason for the fall of the economy.

I just read an Yahoo article that said NY is now accepting Euros in shops?!

This is the very reason this is on our billboard. The Economy and the War are the biggest issues in this country.

Restoring the Constitution will solve these issues and in Texas it's a big buzz word and people are very Constitutional minded.

The three issues are perfect and embodies Ron Paul's platform as well as being the biggest issues he receives applause for at every debate. Just scan the MSM and you will see that The War and the economy are the biggest issues voters are using for their decisions to vote.
We have to present Ron Paul's solutions which will resonate with the public, they just have to be exposed to his message.

Exactly, this billboard will drive people to go to his website to learn more about his specific issues. We wish we could put more specific issues on there but we had to hit the big issues that he has received the biggest response from as well as covering everything that you just stated. This will be very effective in this location.

We will be launching Mobile billboard trucks so we will be able to put more issues on them.

Talking about gun rights and securing borders WILL NOT go over well in uber liberal Austin. Focusing on freedom is the best tactic.

We have requests to put every issue under the sun on these billboards.
We have to stick with the issues that have the most support and represent his campaign platform. If you have watched every debate like I have, he has received big big rounds of applause we he talks about strengthening the dollar, ending the war and the cost of the war and restoring the Constitution. He talks about these 3 points the most and receives the biggest applause for these 3 points. Go to youtube and watch the debates and you will see what I'm saying. Also these 3 issues will resonate with potential voters from other parties and Independents which is a huge vote in the Texas open primary.

In 2006 in AUstin the Independent voter beat Republican Rick Perry.

Independents combined for over 60,000 votes (Kinky Friedman and Carol Strayhorn)

Rick Perry had 59,000 votes

Chris Bell the Democrat had 100,000 votes.

We need to target these voters, the Republican bas goes with the party leaders as evident with McCain. He is Pro War and it will be very hard to get these voters to come over to Ron Paul. We can however reach the voters that would vote for Barack or Hillary.

This is what people outside of Austin don't understand. We have to target each market specifically.

In other states we did have Secure Borders for example on our billboards.

Every market is different and we nailed the design and issues that will work in Austin and Texas in general.

While that is really cool, isn't Austin a sure thing for Paul already... I haven't seen one Ron Paul sign anywhere in the Dallas area.

Austin has great support for Paul and is very organized, shouldn't more effort by the campaign itself and Texans be placed in other areas besides Austin?

We are a small grassroots organization that has targeted the early primaries for billboards like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
The meetups and other grassroots RP supporters in those states did not have any launched in those states. If it wasn't for our site he wouldn't have had a billboard presence in the early states.

As far as Dallas and Houston, it's the same. There are large Meetup and grassroots there as well and they haven't stepped up to launch billboards and such in those markets. Our home base is Austin so after launching 4 billboards in 3 states we haven't been able to view. We thought it was imperative to launch one in our home town and the base of his support. How would it look for the biggest meetup and strong hold of Dr. Paul to not have a billboard while there are billboards in places like Wisconsin. I couldn't let that happen so we stepped up to the plate and took on this massive effort. I plan to use mobile billboard trucks to cover the DFW metroplex. Ft. Worth, Dallas and Arlington before the primaries. It's all about funding and if we don't receive the funds to do this we can't. We have successfully launched in 4 states and are committed to doing more. We just need the funds to do it. If you want exposure in Dallas, Houston and such then please donate to our website. We are making things happen.

The billboard in downtown Austin is heavily traveled by commuters from the border through Oklahoma. We will reach millions!

Just to show we target markets and get great exposure, I posted a Youtube link of a TV news story which included our billboard in Columbia, South Carolina. Our designs and issues were specifically crafted for this market. We also had confirmation from several sources that John McCain was interviewed by CSPAN with our billboard behind him. I'm still scanning the web for that video clip. We select markets that not only will reach the voters but reach the media as well to create even more exposure for Ron Paul. We have been successful achieving both.

Columbia, SC--WIS-TV/NBC-Channel 10 and aired during the 7:00pm news on 1/18 and 1/19! Our billboard appears at the 2:02 mark of the video.

The photo is a little strange and is in profile.
The bottom is too wordy for people driving by in their car. Just get people to the website.
The messages are too abstract or doesn't connect DIRECTLY with the people personally (which is a problem with the entire Ron Paul campaign)

"End The War" is ok, but it isn't the war as much as it is the TROOPS that people care about.
"Strengthen the Dollar" - most people don't know what that means or how it effects them.
"Restore the Constitution" - most people wont get it. They don't even know that it needed restoring. It doesn't affect THEM.

I would suggest something like this:

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii118/TruthAtLast/Political/ronpaulbillboard3.jpg

We need to hit people with things they can instantly relate to.

There are other things you could say of course like:

"LOWER GOVERNMENT SPENDING" - though everyone says this and it is never done
"SECURE OUR BORDERS" - Texas is a border state so this might be important, I'm not sure
"FINALLY FIX OUR ECONOMY" - It isn't just about fixing our economy. Everyone says that. Putting the word "finally" in there makes is seem like Ron is the only one that can do it. Still this is a little more abstract.

A lot of suggestions came from this board and in emails about the specific wordage. Of course we had our own opinion as well and made the decision we thought was the best. If I used your exact words for instance people would say that they didn't like that and wanted something else. The phone number was specifically asked for by the Texas Ron Paul grassroots campaign in Central Texas and they made a significant contribution. They can help with specific voting info for their precinct. There were designs without the number and people wanted to add it. People wanted it to say Republican so we added GOP. The primary date was also asked to be listed as well as the website. We even ran polls for the color scheme and this was the chosen design. We have made this as open and grassroots driven than any I have seen in this forum. The angle of the photo is perfect due to the way the traffic curves in that direction, so it looks like he is looking at you. We are inspired by all the suggestions and great feedback. And we are doing our best and I believe this is an awesome design that Ben Godwin our new graphic designer created with original photos from a photographer friend which were taken from the campaign trail. We have new ad designs, original photos and concepts that we will be using for our new billboards. Our goal is to bring the issues to the people and draw in new support that will resonate with some of the more Independents in this country that don't like both parties and are tired of the War and this economic strategy. We have addressed every issue that he has received the most applause for in every debate. Just watch the debates and you will see what I mean. These issues are exact quotes of what he has said during these debates that have resulted in rounds applause and screams. They are also the cornerstone of his campaign so we can't go wrong. The billboard is huge 14 x 48 (Illuminated for 18 hours)and it will be very visible especially in this horrendous traffic. I was just out there and it's a parking lot and no one is going no where. They will just be sitting there looking at the billboard and pick up their cell and call the number and probably talk for 10 minutes before they past it. I plan on taking pictures and filming video to show just how effective and busy this location is. The billboard should launch early next week due to the awesome efforts of our team and the grassroots.

Your contributions and suggestions are greatly appreciated. We have contemplated all suggestions and reached out for help on decisions from the grassroots and will continue to do so.

Ron Paul for the long haul!

STRONG NATIONAL DEFENSE...same as end the [stupid] war...

Yes, this is the GOP primary.

Ron Paul’s strong foreign policy:

Keep an unbeatable military.
Uphold the Constitution and US sovereignty: Declare the war, fight it, win it, and come home.
Fight terrorists with intelligence and special units to stop overstretching our troops and to keep our conventional forces free and ready for major conventional threats.
Secure our borders and enforce our visa laws to stop terrorists.
Maintain financial security through sound money, fiscal conservatism, and non-intervention (the smart way to be globally active)—You can’t win a war when you’re bankrupt.

We are in Austin where the Independents and the Democrats outnumber the Republicans. It's an open primary and in the 2006 election, Independents beat the Republicans. If voters were for McCain or Giuliani like our Governor they will never come to our side. We can get a whole new segment of votes from the young and all of these Independents, Dems, Libs and Republicans who are sick of the war and economy. We are playing to the voting demographic in Austin. This is an open primary. We have a different word strategy for the Metroplex for instance. We will also be able to fit more info since it's moving slow and can be parked. Keep the suggestions coming.

I can respect that. Clearly this has been a major process to agree on a design.

I've seen every debate, nearly every recorded rally, and every interview.

I would only add that the people that are at debates are either Ron Paul supporters or people who are politically savvy. They understand what he means by "Restore the Constitution" or "Strengthen the Dollar". But that IS NOT who we should be targeting. Yeah, I get the message, but the average person doesn't. We need to target independant and undecided voters or even people who were not planning on voting (which is over 50% of America) who are asking themselves "Why should I take my time to vote for this guy?"

Ron Paul talks about habeas corpus and most people say, "huh?"

Unfortunately, people don't understand how the DOLLAR effects them every day and the CERTAINLY don't understand monetary policy and how our banking system works. They don't understand that they can't have their cake and eat it too (lower taxes and a war in Iraq, and social security, and better health care... etc.) I hate to say it but most of voting America really needs the message to be dumbed down.

Again, I appreciate all that you are doing and I've donated to both boards. This can't be easy for you. Still, I think there is a missed opportunity here and that saddens me.

I would say these guys know exactly what they are doing.

Texas is bigger than some countries. You can put 23 states in America in Texas and still have room.

Each section of Texas has different cultural, political and issue differences.

Austin is liberal. My area is Independent. Houston, I think, is largely Republican.

Dallas is probably mostly democrat?

One thing that is an issue to all Texans is the Trans Texas Corridor.
Nobody wants it except Walmart and our Mayor with an empty suit.

First of all, you are awesome for making this happen, and I'm only hoping to provide constructive criticism.

I think thats a bit too much info for a billboard to be effective and I personally think the simpler the better. You also want a call to action or curiosity.

I think you should also have the word President in the add.

Ron Paul for President

End the War.
End Big Government.
Defend Our Dollar.
End the Fed.
Keep Our Guns.
Secure Our Borders.
Secure Our Seniors.
End Big Spending.
Defend Our Liberty.

And of course: RonPaul2008.com

I think 2 or 3 of the above or similar would be good. You're on the right track there, but I agree with a previous post, as shameful as it may be, the constitution won't attract new voters. We want people to want to learn more and act upon that feeling. I'm from San Antonio and tolls and the TTC are big issues too.

I also like:

"Vote America. Vote Freedom. Vote Ron Paul for President."

Good Luck!!

Many of those types voted for Obama in other states but I defer to local knowledge.

Ron Paul Chocolates Will Fund Billboards!

2-8-08

We have exciting news! Amir Hirsch from Ron Paul Chocolates.com has donated the remainder of his stock to us for funding billboards. The Chocolates are not only delicious, they bear Ron Paul's image and say "Gold Standard In Leadership" "Trust In Ron" on the front of the gold coin. The back of the coin says "Ron Paul For President 2008". The amount of your contribution will determine the number of Ron Paul chocolates you receive. We have 4 different ranges to keep it simple and 100% of your contributions will go towards funding billboards. Please use correct names and addresses when using these widgets to order chocolates.

This is a great offer from our friend Amir, take advantage of this offer while they last and receive a sweet token of appreciation for your support.

100 Chocolates for a $25 contribution
200 Chocolates for a $50 contribution
500 Chocolates for a $100 contribution

All proceeds minus shipping and Paypal charges will fund billboards as well as provide a Ron Paul keepsake. Even if you don't like
chocolate it would be cool to have. Amir is making nothing from this and in fact has absorbed the loss and just wants to help us launch billboards.Take advantage of this while they are still available.

It's Valentine's Day soon guys! Even if it's late it would be a cool gift to give your significant other who is a Ron Paul fan.

If we don't have funding we can't launch any words on any billboard anyway.

So we need to focus on motivating fund raising and spreading the word about our website so we can launch billboards. Amir has donated all of his chocolates to help spur donations. Please help us launch billboards and all the discussion of wordage can continue once we actually have the money to launch these billboards

Harold what is the goal? how much left to raise?

We made the goal for the Austin billboard so we are good there. Now we are raising funds to launch Mobile Billboard Trucks. We have raised $500 so far.
As far as the wording about Congressman, we thought about that as well and tried it, but it looked like it could be confusing for people. The word Republican is too long and we wanted to fit as much info in as little words as possible.

In order to get this up ASAP we needed to act quickly. Once I saw the donations start picking up on Thursday, I headed up north to the Reagan Ad offices and signed the contract, dropped off the check and designs in person just before 5PM. Since we had the designs ready and in the correct resolution and format the Ad didn't need to be tweaked by their graphics guy. The order went out for our production materials Friday morning by 10 AM. We are looking for the installation to begin as soon as the materials are received. This was a heroic effort and with the boost of the grassroots last week, we were able to have a turn around of the billboard launch this week to have maximum exposure till the primary. We thank everyone who has helped and supported us from the beginning. After launching 5 billboards in 4 states, we will finally be able to see one in person.

Ron Paul for the long haul!

Now we are raising funds to launch Mobile Billboard Trucks. We have raised $500 so far.Would it be possible for supporters to take a LCD TV or two and place them in the back of a pickup truck and drive around?

You could power them with a 700W inverter to 12V, and maybe put the ads on via a laptop that has video out. Have it change pics every few seconds.

Just a thought.

A big huge sign like the sign truck companies do is the best of course, I like the idea you have about simply hiring them, they are set up and already know about all the problems and where the best traffic is.

I was just thinking supporters could also help out with their own setup.

Will your truck(s) you hire use video or pics of some sort so you don't have to pay for the production of a vinyl sign?
