I was on Meetup yesterday and kept track of the number of Ron Paul supporters:

30,872 in 676 groups.

Today:

31,808 in 690 groups.

Holy way to grow Batman!

but how well are these groups organized and how is the party coordinating to use these groups? they really need to take advantage of that...

It doesn't matter. You're missing the point. We don't need organization. We just need a massive exponential growth pattern and infectious desire to vote for liberty.

This is bigger than Ron Paul.

organization = central planning = socialism

it's better this way lol

we're seeing success in a completely decentralized campaign. We have Ron Paul's campaign that kind of "guides" everyone and does things, then we have hundreds and thousands of "mini" organizations that kind of do their own thing.

This is why anarchism rules! :p

Don't want to burst any bubbles but I've been tracking it each morning at about the same time and it looks to me like your figures are two days worth... maybe due to checking at different times of the day?

I have this:

2 days ago: 30811
Yesterday: 31411
Today: 31867

That's a growth of 600 yesterday (which is the biggest I've seen yet), and 456 today (which is still pretty high), but nowhere near the 1000 you saw :(

456 joined this morning or yesterday?

456 this morning, since yesterday morning.

It is. I've only been tracking for about three weeks, but the growth in that time has looked pretty much linear, with 362 on average each day, before the last two days. So these latest numbers are either outliers or they are the beginning of a new trend... we shall see.

I like the expression "herding cats" that some article used to describe organizing people of our mindset.

I do think it's true that you need some "get'r'done" types though, to make a meetup effective. 20 motivated people that meet regularly and try their ideas is better than 200 loafers who just hang around online and read. Put those motivated people among the loafers and maybe you get 100 people that are at least "active" and "participating".

Some people like to plan and brainstorm. Others like to say aye or nay on joining an idea.

No matter what these numbers show a huge interest in the campaign, but I've been wondering, how do these numbers work? Does 30,000 RP meetup members mean 30,000 different individuals, or does it merely add-up all the membership numbers in each meetup? In other words, if you join 3 different meetup groups (as many of us have) does that count 3 toward the overall 30,000+ number, or only one?

Numbers don't matter if those people aren't active and productive.

They're another "price signal" in the market!

It's early...they will get more involved. Look at it this way...they are voters, and they show we are not just 2 guys in their basement spamming polls.

I agree...more need to get involved. Ultimately the Meetup Organizers should light a fire under some butts...

Unfortunately in an underdog campaign, we don't have the luxury of time. It may be early in the scheme of things, and a lot can change, but we really need to start gaining a lot more momentum soon.

My understanding is it counts you 3 times in your example.
