I don't know how many have seen this file on the ronpaul2008 website, but this link will show you what the different process is for delegates and primaries for all 50 states.

This document will tell you how many rounds of votes in a brokered convention each state has to go through before bound delegates are released. It tells you which states are bound, which aren't. Also important, it shows how in some states, like Alabama, the delegates can become unbound with a 2/3 Vote of all members similarily pledged.

Thanks. The official campaign staff has been putting out repeatedly wrong information on this for a while. Good to see that they finally just put up the RNC info I and others have been posting here!

Notice how similar the information looks to the links I have ;)

There are repeated posts about Dr. Paul becoming the Republican presidential nominee in a brokered convention. Most of them are promoting bad information. Here are the actual rules (http://www.gop.com/images/2008_Call_FINAL.pdf):

Rules "binding" delegates are determined by the states (http://www.gop.com/images/Press_State_Summaries.pdf): some delegates are not bound at all, others for the first few votes (first, second or third), while other states bind their delegates until they are released.

In order to be eligible to be nominated at all [RNC Rule 40(b) (http://www.gop.com/About/Rules31-41.htm)], one requirement is to win the majority of delegates in five states (including DC and territories, RNC Rule 27 (http://www.gop.com/About/Rules21-30.htm)).

what does the AL and CD mean?

AL = At Large (or "statewide")
CD = Congressional District.

According to the RNC rules, each CD gets three delegates to the national nomination convention and (under several forumlae) other delegates AL. Many states then choose to allocate their delegates by CD and AL, but as you can see not all do.
