I'm saying here and now. I will NOT vote for John McCain (or Obama).

I believe McCain is the only republican running that could actually do a worse job than Bush. I will continue on with the fight to get Dr. Paul the Republican nomination and if we do not succeed I will write his name in for the general election. He is getting my vote.

We must send a clear message to the GOP that this party will not accept the status quo and blindly support just any Republican nominee. They must learn, if necessary through a painful defeat, that we are not willing to fall in line with their ongoing destruction of what it means to be a conservative.

Post your support here to take our message as Ron Paul Republicans all the way.

** Updated Sept. 10, 2008 **

I have made updates to my original post on the heels of Dr. Pauls announcement regarding the importance of 3rd party voting. I wrote a response to a post on this thread the day before Dr. Paul's announcement about the very same issue. I feel it is important to draw attention to these distinctions so I've added the article to my original post.

** My comments from Sept. 9, 2008 **

Earlier today I read a response to a post I made in February on RonPaulForums.com titled, I vow to NEVER vote for John McCain. In the post I state that I will not vote for McCain in the general presidential election regardless of his (at the time) likely republican nomination. I also comment that I will only vote for Ron Paul, even if I must write his name in. Although my feelings have changed slightly, I still hold the same premise true. I will not vote for the Republican nominee (or Democrat for that matter), but prefer to promote changes moving us away from the two party system. I will most likely vote for one of the third party candidates Bob Barr (Libertarian) or Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party) now that Ron Paul is not seeking an independent run for President.

The response (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=113865&page=47#466) to my original post caught my attention because it expressed a common idea I’ve been hearing over and over now that we have official candidates from the two major parties. The comment stated the following:

There is some legitimacy for discussing the lesser of two evils. I'm all for working to educate the public enough to understand some of our positons and voting third party or reformin the Republican party BUT I also live in reality. This time around one of these two will be elected and I SURE think McCain/Palin is the best choice.

I like Palin and will bevoting for them. "I'm not here for your approval..." hehe

Cheers...

- EndTheFed

After reading EndTheFed’s comment I wrote the following article explaining my reasoning for not voting for either the Republicans or Democrats in the 2008 election. I thought it touched on some interesting concepts that most Americans don’t consider when choosing who to vote for and decided to post it here.

My response to EndTheFed:

I understand your reasoning. My wife has a similar view on the subject in that; she is willing to vote for McCain only to prevent Obama from entering office. This is primarily because of a single issue related to laws surrounding labor unions and the formation of them. She feels that a vote for McCain is actually a vote against Obama. This appears to make sense, but a vote for anyone other than Obama IS a vote against him. On the other side, a vote for a third party is really a vote against McCain and Obama both. I realize that one of the two, either McCain or Obama is likely going to win this election. It is unrealistic to say that a third party will win, but we need to stop thinking in the short term. By voting for a third party you have such an impact on the process. The more votes a third party such as Libertarian or Constitution Party receives the greater credibility it gives them. People believe a third party cannot win, and as a result they don't vote for them. But if a third party got 15% or even 20% of the vote in just one election it makes an impact on other voters for the next cycle. They begin to see that party as legitimate (I'm talking about the masses now) and consider it a real option instead of a wasted vote. That is extremely important when you consider the big picture. Even more important than recognition, is ballot access and debates. If a party gets 15% or more of the popular vote in a presidential election, they get automatic ballot access in the next election, just like Republicans and Democrats (I have not checked these facts. I will be checking, but I trust the source who told me). This would mean 4 years from now a third party could focus it's time and money on campaigning rather than constantly getting signatures. These are important milestones that cannot be ignored.

Here is what I asked my wife, "Do you believe that McCain will win the general election in our state?" To which she answered, "Yes", as we live in Alabama, a very red state. This being the case, her individual vote most likely is not needed for McCain to get the electoral votes from our state. However, her vote can still help get the 15% popular vote needed by a third party to secure ballot access in the next election. With that in mind, to vote for either McCain or Obama only perpetuates the system we have now and encourages both Democrats and Republicans to continue taking advantage of the American people as they have for so long. They will have no motivation to change their platforms or policies in the future knowing that the people will vote for them anyway. It is a simple case of supply and demand. As long as the demand remains unchanged they will continue to supply the same pitiful representation currently seen from both parties. If they see the votes shifting in another direction they will need to find a way to make their policies more desirable to voters, having no choice but to change. To vote for anyone other than a third party becomes a wasted vote as it suggests that the current system is working and should remain the same. This trick of getting us to vote for one side just to prevent the other from winning is what has allowed a two party system to dominate in the United States for so long.

If you still feel that voting for a third party will hurt McCain's chances, try this. Find someone in your area who plans to vote for Obama, but like yourself is unhappy with the current system and is only voting to prevent McCain from winning, perhaps another Ron Paul supporter. Both of you agree to vote for a third party thus canceling out each other’s votes and encouraging the changes we hope to see from a strong third party stand. If the other person truly does hope for "change" they should be willing to work together towards this common goal. I'm trying to match people up like this in my area already. I've been shocked by the responses so far. People are actually very open to this idea of collaborative voting since they don't believe a third party can win and it works towards a common goal without affecting the Democrats or Republicans chances in this election.

We aren't the only ones who won't vote for McCain either. A good size of the republican base despises him. If McCain is the nominee, which it looks like he will be, a democrat will win by a landslide. The current polls show McCain beating Obama or Hillary just barely, but the democrats haven't even began to expose McCain. They're going to run that "100 years in Iraq" clip all over the place.

If Ron does not run Indy, I will be voting Democrat for every race. I understand writing Ron Paul in makes you feel good, but it accomplishes nothing. However, making the GOP go down in flames in November does. Even if that means teaching the American public that Democrats will do no better than Republicans.

I can't do that. The Dem's will only further bankrupt the country at an even more accelerated rate. I'm not a fan of socialism either. If they win without my vote, fine, but I can't give them my support. It's Ron Paul all or nothing for me.

I'll never vote for McCain; it would be a violation of everything I believe in as a conservative. He's rude, he talks over others and drops names (which is a classic breach of etiquette). He refers to himself constantly when speaking, which suggests a pronounced ego. He's for amnesty (look at what he does, not what he says). He's an Israel-firster, bought and paid for by AIPAC. He's for re-hiring the Neoconservative "advisors" Bush only recently ran off after having ruined his presidency. He's fiscally irresponsible. His campaign is broke, running only on free media publicity. He's the perfect puppet for the Podhoretz-Perle-Kristol fifth column manipulating the media and running the government into bankruptcy. He "reaches across the isle" which means he does what's politically expedient when AIPAC's interests are at stake. His foreign policy can be summed up in one (often repeated) word: "Islamofacism". He has no stance on the Federal Reserve, IRS, fiat monetary inflation, gold, etc. His entire economic policy is thus: "lower taxes". Want to bet when we'll see those? Hint; look for them after our 100-year occupation of Iraq is over. He --and Giuliani-- are politician's politicians, they represent anything but "change". Of all the republicans running (excepting maybe Giuliani) he brings the least amount of ideas to the table. We get nothing with McCain.

Democracies always fail, and now we see why... the ignorant masses swamp the informed electorate. How many of us here have been watching debates since early 2007? That's a year of consideration. Well I've met three people at work (part of a much, much larger demographic) --all Republicans-- who's first introduction to the candidates was the latest CNN debate in which Paul was silenced. McCain is their guy. They've heard his name more. The heard, once again, trampled over the informed during a mass-media induced stampede. Exit polls show the majority of anti-war votes going to McCain. Ignorance, ignorance, ignorance!

The Republican Party doesn't deserve our votes. After the way we've been mocked, laughed at, gloated over, excluded, silenced, mis-represented, and defrauded (Louisiana), we should hope for a colossal defeat this election to set this party in order!

Any ideas for a creative anti-mccain bumpersticker?

To blatantly self-promote, I like something I came up with a few days ago:

"Change Is Not Enough." (http://www.ChangeIsNotEnough.com)

All the candidates seem to blabber about change, such a weak word for what we really need to accomplish. Only RP has the fortitude to use a real man's (or woman's) word, REVOLUTION!!!

"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death."
-Thomas Paine, The Crisis, 1776

Someone should create a pledge website like the Tea Party or MLK day that doesn't favor any specific candidate but indicates that none of the people who pledge will vote for McCain. If it were set up in this manner, then all of the Romney, Huckabee, etc., supporters could sign as well and it may be reported on by the Media if a ton of people signed up. It could also have some memorable Youtubes such as the 50 or 100 years, etc. If the media started reporting on a website like www.donotvoteforMcCain.com or something of the sort that had hundreds of thousands of pledges, then it may stop some of McCain's momentum.

Note that I neither have the time or the technical knowledge to do this, but it would sure receive my pledge.
