WE ARE HEADED FOR A BROKERED CONVENTION!!!

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/horseraceblog/2008/01/looking_ahead_to_the_republica.html

When that happens all primary results get erased!
That is why it is so important to get precinct leaders !

This is great news but,

I'm a little confused still, is there still a chance to run as a delegate in the state of California?

Where could we check if our congressional district delegate quota has been filled? I'm in 38 of California.

Um that article was from January 14th, 2007. Now that McCain has a nice lead that may not happen.

BUT AFTER THE RESULTS TODAY IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS GONNA HAPPEN!

2,380 Total delegates available!
1,191 is need to win!

2,380 divided by only 3 is 793.33 Which would mean a brokered convention!

REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT!
IF no single candidate gets 1,191+ WE ARE NOW IN A BROKERED CONVENTION
Every delegate that Paul and Huckabee get is a step closer to securing a brokered convention!

I hate to burst all your bubbles, but a brokered convention doesn't EXACTLY happen like you think. Read the rules to find out what's going on with it:

romney 793.33
Huckabee 793.33
BAMM ! Abrokered convention with out paul being a deciding factor!
There are still 20+ states left to vote It is not over by any means
Paul has the largest support in TEXAS with is 2nd largest in delegates! 179 i think?

and btw bradlyindc is a pesimist!

Ok I'm gonna post the CNN delegate totals which are NOT accurate but do provide some sort of a picture on the situation.

John McCain
Pledged: 558
Unpledged RNC*: 17
Total: 575

Mitt Romney
Pledged: 241
Unpledged RNC*: 9
Total: 250

Mike Huckabee
Pledged: 157
Unpledged RNC*: 3
Total: 160

Ron Paul
Pledged: 16
Unpledged RNC*: 0
Total: 16

Please don't shoot me but so far none of the candidates are planning on dropping out but combined Huckabee, Romney, and Paul only have 426 delegates to McCain's 575 according to CNN (which isn't trustworthy).

Since Huckabee and Romney say they are staying in and McCain is the frontrunner it will be interesting to see the results for the states and what transpires there. In certain caucuses I think Romney took weak Paul supporters in the preference polls but in selecting delegates Ron Paul may have picked up more than reported.

Also have we heard anything from Ron Paul today? I don't think we have had a statement from him so it should be interesting to see what he'll have to say and what his next move is.

RP stated in his post a while back that we were looking at a brokered convention. Is that good/bad not sure but the rules change dramatically after the first round of voting. committed or pledged delgates become unbound and can vote who ever whatever at that point so it becomes a free for all. Regardless of the number of delegates you won in the primaries or caucuses. We just need to pull as many delegates as possible. No, we are probably not going to win a single state. That does not mean we cannot make it to the convention and have a brokered convention. With this logic it's like hoping one team wins/loses so that they knock out or weaken an opponent so you move into the playoffs. Essentially we want the delegates spread out among all candidates to better our chances of reaching a brokered convention. Of course I want us to win as many states as possible but we are NOT out of this by any means. I have/am learning so much about politics than ever knew before.

The truth of the matter is that John McCain is going to be the GOP nominee for President in 2008.
