They are very scared the democrats will just want to pull out of Iraq and prove them wrong about WMD, Hussein, dollars for oil, and so on. McCain is winning BECAUSE they all see him strong on the war and they want to protect their "credibility."
I believe the election for Republicans is all about Iraq. Extremely embarrassed republicans don't think Romney is strong enough on Iraq. Even Romney is embarrassed to campaign too strongly on Iraq which is why he is losing so badly!
I have to say I would be too if I were him. It's simply embarrassing at this point and the democrats will demolish McCain. No QUESTION they will just talk about Iraq the whole time, mismanagement, WMD, blablablabla. There is no trump card bigger than Iraq. Republicans need to realize this b/c they are going to be picked off one at a time meanwhile shrinking the base who think Iraq is still good. Republicans got sucked into the foxhole.
