That is exactly what happened, your comments!

It made me excited! :-)

The winners of WV are (in this order): Huckabee, Paul, McCain, Romney. The only thing Romney can take out of it is McCain didn't win. Romney was poised to win the 18 delegates when Paul was eliminated (just 9% shy of 50%).

Few delegates here and there add up to win!

At least Romney should be done dismissing Ron. Could be too little too late.

I think RP supporters were very coy about this. 28 of them went to Huck, 57 to Romney, and 33 sat out. So, it looked like the majority of RP supporters went to Romney, and he wouldn't have much to complain about.

Id still like to know where these numbers came from... and would Huck even back his 3 delegate count if that were true?

It seems like some delegates from each one of the campaigns could have bolted after lunch.

Likely playing both sides with delegates in return for some national convention delegates. The fine art of negotiation.

So could this have been a planned, subtle move?

Even if it wasn't, it still sounds pretty cool.

The numbers may not be be perfectly accurate, but they're plausible, if you assume that McCain supporters would not vote for Romney. I think that is a reasonable assumption.

Huckster McPain Ron Paul Romboy Total
1st Round 375 176 118 464 1133
2nd Round 567 12 0 521 1100

Change 192 -164 -118 57 -33

An alternative scenario would be RP supporters split evenly between Huck and Romney, and some McCain supporters sat out. But I doubt that is what happened.

We know 33 people left. Dont know where from. Lets just take 8.25 people from every campaign for that. That leaves 109 Ron Paul votes. I guess we would also have to assume that out of protest the 57 additional votes for Romney came from RP and McCain supporters despite official instructions from their camps camps.

So maybe I'll give it that 36-73 votes for Huckabee from RP supporters. I just don't know that there exist McCain supporters that would take Romney over Huckabee.

Someone that's "in the know" - are WV delegates bound by law? If so, for how many ballots?

I'm assuming they're bound (probably for 1), but I was just wanting to make sure.

I believe that we still need to win at least five states to take part in the brokered convention. Hopefully Huck can help to throw one our way.

It's not that many Paul Supporters went to Romney. I was a delegate. Many Ron Paul delegates said that they couldn't, in good conscience, vote for another candidate. I know of a few that voted for Romney, but the majority in my county--Monongalia--which went overwhelmingly to Paul initially, switched to Huckabee. The rest left after the first round of voting.
