Consider the old days of the moonshiners and how effective they were in avoiding the mainstream and "Outsiders" (Granted technology has drastically changed the "Revenuers" ability to keep tabs on them), one must consider that the region has proven more than adequate to sustain life.
Plenty of water, game, shelter...everything you need.

We need to protect Dr. Paul, I believe he will be a target after his strong showing during this fake election.

Since the mountains are winning might I suggest east Tennessee. It's really nice here. You get all 4 seasons. I'm within a 30 minute drive of The Smokies and a 6 hour drive to the beach (Charleston).:D

Personally I always liked the free state project (www.freestateproject.org), however, even if enough people moved to nh to make up a majority (even a vast majority) the feds would never leave the state alone and certainly would never allow a state surrounded by other states to secede. Also, after the recent primaries there, it appears that NH was not the best choice.

Alaska, however, has a population of only 700 thousand and is not at all connected to the rest of the US. Plus, it's large enough. A little tropical island sounds nice, but there are none that are large enough. Remember, even if the polls are right (which I don't believe) and only 3% of the us population wants a libertarian/ron paul kind of country, that's still 3% of 300+ million people --- ~10 million libertarians. A tropical island wouldn't even hold 3% of that 3%, plus, given the pers/mi2, there would be no way to functionally move enough people there to change the political climate.

Oh, and BTW, though I hate the cold, I would even move to an iceberg if it was run as a free (libertarian) country.

Seriously, Kiska or Attu in the Aleution Islands. The Japanese occupied both during WWII and built extensive bunker and tunnel systems that are still intact. I would push for NE Wyoming, except if Yellowstone blew, the whole state would go. 8-( I love Wyoming, because in 2004, the Wyoming Sheriff's association got together and co-authored a letter to the US Department of Justice stating that they believed that the USA PATRIOT Act was blatantly unconstitutional, and if any Feds came into Wyoming to enforce any of the tenants of the Patriot Act in their state without their explicit permission, they would be arrested and thrown in jail.

That, of course, moved Wyoming to the very top of my list. Only problem is, I'd be very concerned about the potential for Yellowstone to blow it's lid and take out the whole state, plus half the rest of the USA due to the fallout.
