I read an article a month or so ago where this hack was discrediting the support for Ron Paul using the betting odds against him. He said something to the effect that Ron Paul's support wasn't very real/strong because the odds were too great against him (actual betting odds). He said he trusts that a person has real support when people are willing to bet thier own money on him. At that time I think the odds were somethingt like 1500 to 1.

Well... I created an account on Sportsbook.com this morning and checked the current odds. Ron Paul's have improved dramatically. He's now NECK AND NECK with Mitt Romney at 8 to 1!!!

I wish I could find that article and tell the author something like "HOW DO YOU LIKE THESE FUCKING APPLES PRICK?!?"

Wow -- is there a link to the Sportsbook odds that you can give us? Or can you copy and paste it for us or both?

Thanks!

i heard that at 200 to 1 sportsbook was still getting so many bets that they were scared how much they'd have to pay out so it quickly went to 15-1. 8-1 muhahaha. let's get it to 1-1 ;D

I don't understand how odds work after you place your bet. For those who placed their bet at 200:1, if Ron Paul wins, do they get paid 200:1 or do they get paid at the current odds if he wins?

As you can see by my question, my gambling knowledge, beyond video poker, could not fill a thimble.

They get paid whatever the odds were when they placed the wager. I put $25 bucks on him when he was 200:1 so it's looking like a good investment at this point. They lowered the odds on him because they were getting a lot of wagers on 200:1 so naturally it will keep going down. It's like if the Yankees are playing the Devil Rays. The Yankees will be heavily favored anyway and a lot of idiots bet on the Yankees even if they're not getting the right odds so the line will keep drifting in favor of the Yankees to the point where it becomes a better bet to put money on the Devil Rays, so the lines change when people bet heavily on one side and in this case, enough people were taking Ron Paul at 200:1 that it drove the odds down.

You get paid for the odds that were in place at the time you placed your bet. So kudos to those of you who believed in RP at 1500:1

Also, not to burst anyones bubble, but the premise here is in error. Betting odds go up and down simply on how many bets they get. The book makers don't take into consideration what the outcome may or may not actually be. On the contrary, it is a numbers game. They assume that every bet has a chance of winning so they place there odds based on what they have to pay if that bet wins. High odds (i.e. 1500:1) simply mean that almost no one was betting on RP. Low odds (i.e. 8:1) mean that a lot of people are betting on RP.

The opening line is what you have to look at if you want to know what the book makers think. In this case, they obviously don't think RP is going to win. Don't let it get you down, when they start betting on things outside of sports, Las Vegas is usually wrong anyway.

Thank RPFan. I realized as I hit the Submit button that they would HAVE to pay whatever odds you bought, because otherwise, they could always win any bet. Um, you could do well...
