View Full Version : My favorite question: Subsidize sluts!

I cannot get over that girl griping about how costs for birth control and HPV vaccines have gone up and wondering what the federal government was going to do about it.

Obviously she was expecting the same liberal answer she's been getting which is that the taxpayers should fund or subsidize it. Is that what this country has become???: That being sexually promiscious is a God given right and that government should pay to make sure that those who practice it avoid the consequences.

yes, it's the government's job to keep her from getting pregnant, just like it's the government's job to pay for her future abortions. lmao.

TV tells young people that sex is primarily a recreational activity with no consequence.

It's the pro-eugenics, pro-kill 80% of the population, elitist crowd pushing that line.

Someone need to show her an abortion video.

Paul blew the answer - he went on about inflation and the market, but the best answer would have been legalizing importation of pharmaceuticals and the price would drop substantially!

I think he was somewhat surprised by the stupidity of the question and decided to give a more generic answer (regarding the overall cost of health care and everything else) that actually applies to most of the people watching.

That isn't what he said. The point was that its silly to expect other people (taxpayers) to subsidize your sexual behavior.

If you choose to be sexually active, then pay for your own contraception.

They already do. Go to any Health Department and get a free bag of condoms. I'm a nurse who works in a free clinic and we hand them out like candy. They have the fancy colored ones and the rainbow ones and the ones that are scented.... I'm looking for another job as we speak.

Good response, slamhead!

Let's think about this: our youth are being told to wait until marriage to have sex. Yet, they are also being controlled that hormones are completely in charge and sex is the natural thing to do (teenagers can't avoid it), so you can't possibly be responsible for the consequences. And if you have that little control of your behavior, the government should have to pay so that you don't have to deal with the consequences of said behavior.

My mom works at the high school I went to, and she said that the school can arrange to give teenagers abortions without their parents' knowledge! What in the world have we come to?!?!?! What if she starts hemorraging and dies, or something goes wrong? What are you going to tell the parents?

We should be enforcing good morals on teenagers today, and teach them that if they screw up, tough! You'll have to help yourself or get help from your parents or a community program of sorts. You cannot crawl to the government and say, "Subsidize me, Captain!"

RPinUptownChi
02-02-2008, 11:13 PM
morality is merely codified prejudice. if people who wished to have sex were informed about contraception and it was available the number of societal problems would be reduced enormously. The reason the situation is so ridiculous is because the hardcore pro-life and hardcore abortion people are equally insane and have no chance of ever reaching a pragmatic agreement.

While obviously it shouldn't be a function of taxpayers to subsidize birth control, I wouldn't classify anyone who uses birth control as a "slut."

religious dogma aside, probably 99% of the population is sexually active- while many of those are in monogamous relationships and still use birth control for obvious reasons.

There are virgins that even use birth control in some forms and married people in closed faithful relationships.

There are some lawmakers who want to BAN the availability of things such as HPV vaccine because they think it promotes "promiscuity." ( I am assuming people here have a problem with the SUBSIDIZING part, not the actual use). The message this sends is that "we want God to give you cancer as punishment" and that it is better for people to get cancer than prevent cancer at the risk of appearing permissive.

These are the same types of people who support things like the War on Drugs and have no problem if innocent people are murdered in the process. because its more important to send some Message of "morality" than save lives.

Another similar issue is the ONCDP opposition to the heroin overdose antidote and prosecution of needle exchange volunteers.

I completely agree with your observation that not all birth-control users are "sluts."

That being said, in the name of good fun, we can make generalizations about the young lady who asked the question, admittedly unfairly, but maybe she deserves it for insinuating that she expects the government to give her a handout.

I would argue that no one here who truly understands the principle freedom would say HPV vaccines should ever be banned, but we should all agree that the free market should handle this, instead of throwing money at yet another problem.

And the HPV virus causes cancer. Apparently the freedom loving libertarians think that women who have sex deserve to die horrible painful deaths.

Wow.

The medical industrial complex is real popular with the democrats.

Approved by the FDA in June, 2006, Gardasil is being aggressively marketed to parents of pre-teen girls as young as nine as a way to “guard” against cervical cancer and genital warts caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV) type 6, 11, 16 and 18.

The Merck campaign has been tremendously effective.

By September, Judicial Watch had an additional 1,800 reports of suspected reactions to Gardasil, bringing the adverse report total to 3,461 and 11 deaths.

Sorry but imo a 14 year old girl should know about sex a long time before she is 14. Freedom of speech allows anyone to say anything and if you disagree with their views or commercials dont watch their channel thats how the free market works. If you dont want young people to have sex dont make it so secret and forbidden and explain what the hell it is and how its just putting a thing in a hole feels pretty good but leads to crap loads of responsibility. If you make it forbidden and against the rules it will be more attractive just as drugs or alcohol is.. Whatever not going to debate this anymore but thats my general quick written opinion.

Either you figure out how to explain it, or someone will show her what it is.

Back on topic, I think the Dr. nailed the question on the head. I know it blew right over the little bimbos head, but his first sentence was something like "well, no, I dont think it's right for other people to pay for that type of behavior"

Listen, i was NOT talking about a 14 year old not knowing what Viagra is read my post again!, but rather young 4,5,6,7+ year olds especially boys what Erection is. Call me old fashion but that shit does not belong on a news channel like CNN. Its also constant on XM radio. WTF happened to cereal, ketchup and the good old family commercials of the old days! I'm watching a news channel that is supposed to be for every age. This has pissed of allot of my coworkers too when they watch CNN in the evening arownd their kids and loved ones and some of those sleazy commercials with get it up fast erection blah blah bullshit pops up and your kids are questioning what the tv just said.

So spare me the free press free this free that, don't wrap everything into freedom, its about moral not freedom my issue with that crap. BTW i love Cyallis myself :D and i don't need the tube to tell me why i should get it and what it does when its not even over the counter:mad:

News Channels? For every age? What in the world are you talking about?

In my memory, I can't think of a time when news was "appropriate" for children. If your looking for that, the news channels (especially today) are the WRONG place to look.

How do you explain viagra to a 7 year old? For fucks sake. How do you explain Britney Spears losing her mind and trying to kill herself? How do you explain the Iraq war, or the Darfur genocide? How do you explain Columbine and Virginia tech? How do you explain something like 9/11?

The point is, YOU are the damn parent. It is YOUR responsibility. If you want to isolate your child from the world, then it is up to YOU to do it. If you want to be an adult and help them put events in their perspective, then it is YOUR job to do it.

You are responsible for raising your kid, so if you don't them exposed to the real world then make the appropriate sacrifices.

For $DIETY's sake, people in this country act like seeing a boob or having sex is like kicking a baby into traffic. Violence seems to be fine, but heaven forbid someone actually see a so-called "naughty part". GROW UP. Act like an adult. Talk to your kids. If you don't, someone else will and you can bet that they won't say the same things as you would.

The slut subsidy. Very nice. I'm sure if you found out your daughter was having sex you'd call her a slut as well. I'm sure glad I didn't have YOU as a parent.

Let's put this in perspective. The human body peeks for reproductivity from about 16-25 years of age. Why? For a long time, humans didn't live much longer than that. It was quite common for people to become married in their early teens. Women who were older than 25 or so and not married were often regarded poorly in societies.

So when do you think kids become the most curious? EDUCATE YOUR KIDS. And if they don't follow your mindset, at least have the compassion to make sure they're protected. Not the government. Not the schools. YOU.

I'm not advocating promiscuity. I'm advocating education and protection provided BY THE PARENTS. You're kids will eventually be out of your control at some point and it's better for them to have the protection just in case than to have none at all.

Personal responsibility. For yourself and your kids. I don't necessarily agree with "the system" providing this service, but calling someone a slut just because their beliefs on sex is different than is yours is exactly the narrow-minded ignorant tripe that Ron Paul is against.

Seriously, I can't condemn these "little girls" for what they think is important. I was that age at one time and there are a LOT of things that are more important to me now. If I was 20 right now, I would bitch about birth control prices. But now I'm much older, and am worried more about the economy, my retirement money, and all my taxes going to foreign countries to fight wars. My brain at 20 years old couldn't handle all the things I am thinking about now because I was too busy having fun being a 20 year old. Jeez, I was too busy being a slut to care about foreign affairs and monetary policy. :)

Just the fact that those girls were there asking questions at 20, means they potentially could be fighting the good fight and joining the revolution tomorrow.

Hopefully, the youth of America does their homework before they cast that ballot and not vote just because someone is black, a women, or a veteran.

I know we are die-hard Ron Paul supporters, but if you don't do your research on ALL the candidates before you vote, just stay home.

WHat is your definition of a slut, anyway? Somebody who doesn't have sex with you?

The accepted denotative meaning is a sexually promiscuous woman or "a woman of a low or loose character; a bold or impudent girl; a hussy, jade.". These definitions identify a slut as a person of low character — a person who lacks the ability or chooses not to exercise a power of discernment to order their affairs, such as a cad, rake, or womanizer.

This is the MOST embarrassing thread I've seen on the RP forums EVER. This thread makes me ashamed to be a supporter. It makes me ashamed to share the same air. I am absolutely disgusted by the ignorance and lack of understanding. So many people throwing around ignorant judgements based on what? Religion? Girls who enjoy sex? And the abundant use of the word slut is exactly, EXACTLY what I would expect of BILL O'RIELLY not the supporters of RP. OMG, I hope the intelligent people who I have swayed over to the RP movement DON'T see this thread.

Subsidizing sluts? What a bunch of children! GROW UP. YOU ALL HAVE HAD SEX! YOU ALL ENJOYED IT, and according to modern medical statistics you ALL probably have HPV! What a spectacular degree of Hypocrisy! Perhaps this girl doesn't understand yet how things are paid for! Maybe she doesn't realize that it's governments meddling in the medical industry that has raised the price of her BC and HPV vaccines INSTEAD of the subsidies keeping it low! The poor girl is asking questions because she doesn't know something. ISN'T THAT WHAT WE DO WHEN WE WANT AN ANSWER? WE ASK QUESTIONS.

And threads like this is what we can expect? When I put on my RP shirt and go canvassing tomorrow I will try my best to put this disgrace out of my mind.

DO YOUR RESEARCH! HPV causes Cervical Cancer AND genital warts. Some argue that the strains that cause Warts don't cause Cancer but the evidence is mostly inconclusive. ALSO, the HPV virus is the most common virus among sexually active people and CONDOMS do NOTHING to protect against it as it is transfered from skin to skin. You could recieve the virus from your first partner and not develop a wart until 15 years later. Most studies estimate that over 80% of the sexually active population has one or more strains of the HPV virus. By those ODDS you have to accept that if you've had sex you MOST likely carry a strain and IF YOUR A FEMALE you should be concerned as it is linked with CANCER.

A women who is concerned with her health and her future is treated by this community as a slut? This thread deserves an E-Vomit.

Also, WHAT'S WRONG WITH HAVING SEX? Let's assume, just briefly, that there are MANY people whom aren't Christian and don't view sex as a sin or an evil act! Now, if this truly is a modern and civilized society and we have actually stepped out of the stone age why WOULDN'T WE want to help people with Vaccines and Birth Control?

Why WOULDN'T we want to take measure to decrease the number of needed abortions? The number of Parent-less children, the number of women with Cervical Cancer?

I guarantee you that people who are passing all this "slut" hate around either don't get much sex, have only had sex with uptight religious gals who are "scared" to enjoy themselves, or they are too scared of sin and hell to enjoy the greatest gift God ever saw fit to endow us with.

I know that we all like watching sexy things and sexy things are EVERYWHERE you look. Sexy Victoria secret ads during the Super Bowl, Sexy athelets (danica patrick), news stories about Paris HIlton's sex tape, 6 versions of *uncut and/or unrated* American Pie movies,....

TV shows,

Sex is EVERYWHERE and when a college girl asks a question about HPV vaccines and Birth Control she is a slut? HELLO!!! ANYONE HERE GO TO COLLEGE? College is the sexiest times of our lives!

I could go on and on but I think this will just fall on def ears.

I wish the Moderators would delete this thread as it OFFERS NOTHING OF ANY VALUE!

How do you explain your young kids what an Erection is!

If you are a parent, then you must not have any boys. You wouldn't need the news to bring up the topic of erections. Boys get them. Even as babies. Get over it.

Take some personal responsibility for your children. The tv is not the parent, you are. Watch your TV when your kids aren't around. This is not rocket science.

God, i am so tired of parents who want the entire world to be focused around their idea of what is "child-safe".

That has to be the most insightful post I've read.. thanks for that.

I think young women have fallen into the "Sex in the City" mentality that they now overtly flaunt their promiscuity. Call me prude, but if I was that girl's father I would be extremely embarrased.

It's a shame that so many Ron Paul supporters are so sexually conservative. I don't like the idea of tax-payers subsidizing birth control, but calling girls who are on birth control 'sluts' is really judgmental and stupid. First of all, many girls who are on birth control are in long-term relationships. Many women on birth control are even married, and use birth control because they're not ready to have children and sex without a condom is more pleasurable.

Second of all, even if the majority of girls on birth control are sexually promiscuous, or 'sluts' as many posters here like to say, so what? As long as these girls are enjoying themselves and not hurting anyone, what's wrong with what they're doing? I personally have never understood why so many people, both men and women, have something against sexually promiscuous women. I have female friends who are 'sluts' and I don't judge them - they're having fun and enjoying themselves and they're not hurting anybody.

Here in Texas, Gov. Rick Perry (who was campaigning for Rudy) was talking about mandating that every girl would be forced to get the HPV vaccine... this is where the neo-cons want this to go.

on a side note about Perry, he attended the last Bilderburg meeting. anyone want to take a bet that after 4 years of a Dem whitehouse he's the "saviour of the Republican party" in the next election? :p

You people are taking the OP wayyy to seriously. I said the same thing to my friends I was watching the debate with. It was simply a comment mind in jest towards a girl asking a stupid question.

I don't believe the OP meant to paint sex as an evil thing just as I didn't mean that when I jokingly made a similar comment.

Wives can be slutty too. If I had a wife I would love coming home to a slut in an apron. I am just saying...

Here's how I would answer this:

What would you prefer: Several companies competing for your business by offering you better quality condoms at low prices or paying a third of your income to the government so you could pay more for lesser quality condoms, but you could at least get them at the college health clinic?

Next thing you know, we'll have a slut corporation that dominates the sex-for-pay industry that carries the only government approved condoms and has access to the only government-financed abortion clinics.

I can hardly wait.

I too am embarrassed by this thread. Being sexually active is natural, sex is not bad/evil/sin, and women who enjoy safe sex are not 'sluts'. They're being responsible.

Please educate yourselves, people! :)

i think the point is that the topic of the question was completely irrelevant in terms of presidential politics...

i mean who votes for a president based on who will provide cheapest contraceptives:rolleyes:

I have had sex, wouldn't say that I enjoyed it though

Seriously, I completely disagree with calling sexually active women "sluts" but I have a sense of humor about it, there's no reasoning with people who have this religious point of view, I choose to see the humor in it.

Come on, a "slut subsidy" does sound pretty funny. And personally, I don't care what other people's views are on sexuality because we all still make our own choices when it comes to that. Relative to the other issues, it's a non-issue. BC is available in many forms, most importantly--condoms are available and that is the most important form of contraception considering that it prevents AIDS, HPV, etc. The only way I'm old-fashioned is that I believe the man should provide such protection.

The OP was joking about a ridiculous question. Which it was a very stupid question.

I think these questions were aimed at him to make him give a dumb answer but he gave an intelligent answer and their attempt of making him seem bad went wrong.

If anything through all of these sabatoging games, Ron Paul has proven he has what it takes to deal with the pressure of being president.
