After Fred Thompson dropped out, I decided I had nothing left to vote for in the primaries. I've since realized that I was wrong. I have to vote now. I'd never be able to live with myself if I didn't do everything I could to keep that hotheaded RINO's finger off the trigger. He's done everything he could to get rid of the conservative movement short of spitting on Reagan's grave. February 12th, I'll be at the local community center in charles city, va., in a surreal state of mind, actually casting a vote for an ex-liberal yankee morman from massachusettes, and not the southern baptist pastor from arkansas... (jeeze if feels so odd to type that)

The republican field is so screwed up this year. I feel disenfranchised about the field as a whole.

-A _itch whose sole function the past couple decades has been screwing up healthcare and acting as bimbo patrol for her perjuring husband.

-The son of a white woman from Kansas and an African immigrant, that grew up with his grandparents in Hawaii and went to Harvard, who apparently is intimately understanding of the plight of the poor black man because he held public office in Chicago, and who gives great speeches about abstract general topics like 'hope' that make his audiences feel good but have no real use in the real world.

-A former southern baptist fire and brimstone pastor who spent his time as governor giving away state scholarships to illegal immigrants, and letting violent criminals out of prison to commit more crimes.

-The son of a michigan politician who made his millions buying companies and cutting domestic jobs, and spent his time as massachussettes governor socializing healthcare.

-An angry old war hero who feels entitled to the job despite the fact that he even admits he has no real grasp of how the economy works because he's spent his whole life getting a government paycheck of some sort and started his political career with campeign contributions from his rich father in law.

we're all screwed.

PS.

-oh I forgot about the liberterian nutjob... but in my defense, so did everyone else.

I wouldn't, he sort of sounds like a tool generalizing everyone like that. I'd find people that aren't looking to whine about every candidate.

I would offer a variety of slim jims and let them have however many they wanted.
I would suggest that they check out the websites. I would ask - why is RP a nut? Is government by the constitution a nutty position?

My wife has asked people on message boards to explain why he is a nut. They cannot answer and after checking 2 are starting to come around. A lot just say the same thing - he can't win. So my wife is " If you don't like anyone else, aren't you wasting a vote for your conscience????"

People usually at least quit arguing... even if they don't openly convert. Maybe planting a seed....

we just go to next that we can talk to.

You should point out that RP endorsed Reagan in 1976 before nearly anyone else would, that his ideas are right in line with what the Republican party used to stand for.

Then link him to this to prove it:
http://controlcongress.com/uncategorized/conservative-index

Tell him, you don't have to like everything he says....just try to convince him that there's more to like about RP than any of the other socialist/fascist candidates ;)

Link the positions that RON PAUL AND FRED THOMPSON are alike on

such as...

2nd Ammendmant
States Rights
Pro-Life
Fiscally Conservative
Illegal Immigration

and then hit on the points where Mitt Romney and Fred THompson disagree

2nd Ammendmant
States Rights
Pro-life(depends when you ask him)
Job security(see BAIN CAPITOL)
Illegal Immigration(his idea is to send them to do landscapping at the Governor's mansion)

THis should be a simple one

this is what I write to people to start with:

"I must admit I am obsessed with Ron Paul and his message of free market libertarianism and promote him to every one I know. I'm convinced that free markets would allow America to be the absolute greatest it can be"

my gut response:

"if you can bring yourself to stop listening to the mainstream media for a moment, you want to check out what the candidate you call a "nutjob" (who Reagan once endorsed) is all about."

Ask them what they care about and show them how Ron Paul solves it. If they dig their heels in, gently coax them like a little baby to understand the truth, but know that economics ties everything together. It's the center of the wheel.

Your wife is pretty lucky that a couple are coming around. I was not able to get through to anyone on my message board, though one did tell me she respected what I am doing and is happy for me. She's one of the few I still speak to. I got ticked when they told me Ron was not going to win.

The other day I was talking to a coworker and I said one of the candidates said something like "banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies"

He was like, "I wish that nut job Ron Paul would stop running his mouth?"

I said, "Yeh, too bad it was Thomas Jefferson that said it"
