I always see my fellow linux users on here not able to play the live streams...just install windows in virtualbox and be done with it!

or you could just download the win32 codecs... and use flash with firefox...

That doesn't always work...CNN live video for instance is just 1 example.

I wish I didn't have to use Windows but I need it for school but I've basically been running Windows in a VM for the past 9 years lol

Why install a virtual box? I run Linux and can view streams just fine. :D Windows is a piece of milky crap.

My XTerm rocks your windows.

i run ubuntu 8.10. nothing special. no add ons. it just works... like everything else in ubuntu ;).

OK so in Ubuntu, see if CNN live video works...not the video segments...click live video oh yeah....Debian FTW!

oops... you're right... it is 7.10. gutsy gibbon i believe they call it. the newest one. that just goes to show you how much i know about computers.

Negative, CNN "Live Video" does not work. Because you have to install the Turner Spyware ISScript in order to view. Screw that. CNN sucks salty goatnuts anyways.

just remember that ubntu versions always represent year.month, so 7.10 was october 2007, next version is in april and it will be called 8.04 :)

Well, you could always snag the stream url sometimes. I had a link somewhere on my totem player favorites. I was able to watch the debate in Semi-Valley via the LA-Times website. There are alternatives. Often you can find a direct stream link posted here on the forums.
