How much did it go for? I checked DnJournal's weekly sales report, and it's not listed.. They always list domain ebay sales.. Although CNN bought iReports.com for $750,000

Guys... this is getting silly. Ron Paul runs around for the last year saying "we need the Fed to quit printing money." Out of the 2-3 million votes that he will garnish this primary election, only 10,000 of them are active users on this forum. Out of that 10,000, probably only 5,000 will take the time to learn about the Fed and how evil it is.

If I were the owner of RonPaul.com... I could put in bold text "YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY THE MEDIA AND BOTH PARTIES DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT RON PAUL??? WATCH THESE VIDEOS" and then have some videos up there like "Debt as Money" but put a montage in there for an intro-- a montage of Ron Paul talking about getting rid of the Fed.

About .05% of people actually take the time to look up this Fed that is "printing money out of thin air." We need a more direct approach that is like "YOUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN HIJACKED AND YOU NEED TO READ THIS OR WATCH THIS TO LEARN WHY."

hmmm... Hopefully it's not a tease. He may have it set up to redirect to show how much traffic goes through it. Then he will have hard evidence to sell the domain to the Campaign. If he can prove that 20million people are going through that way, he could probabl sell it to them for an easy quarter million . . . . just being pessimistic for a second.

well, at lease the owner redirected it to the official site. Think about if it was sold to the wrong hands.. (rp haters, people just trying to advertise)

Dont worry guys.. Alot of people who are domainers put their whois info in other countries.. Anything Inc, who sold $164 Million worth of names to Marchex, had his whois info in the cayman islands to prevent paying taxes.

I wouldn't look too much into it.. People use aliases on the net ALL THE TIME !

I have been a domain trader since 1997.. Have made millions buying and selling domains.. And attended domain conferences around the world and met all the big shots in the business..

It's what I do.. Trust me, don't judge by an internet whois address. I know how these guys work.. Just be thankful this guy is a Ron Paul supporter.

By the way, NOBODY email him.. Just don't do it.

I hate to push the subject.
But viewing the source code of the redirect page:
He is using an invisible tracker to gather stats. He is using the encryption method too so it's hard to look at the data. Let me officially make a warning. I don't think this is a Paul supporter. I think he is gathering data to see how valuable the site is to the Paul campaign.

Umm, why do you find this questionable??

You are grasping at straws dude.

Not really, i think a guy who has an ebay handle "domaininsider" is looking to make a profit off of the domain, possibly at RP's (our) expense. We don't need ronpaul.com obviously. But if he sees how much traffic it gets, and then places a porn site on it, we will have no choice but to buy the domain.

I don't think this is an outlandish concern... I'm just worried about unneccessary expenses for us.

Umm, why do you find this questionable??

The guy paid $25,000 for a domain name.. He has every right to check stats.. Anytime someone buys a domain name for a good amount of money, verifying traffic is the very first thing they do..

If you were to pay $5,000 for a plasma tv for instance, would you not turn it on to make sure it's working right after you took it home??

You are grasping at straws dude.

Really, if the guy was looking to make money on it, the name would not be going to RonPaul2008.com.. It would be going to a pay-per-click company or an affiliate.. Because he would be making good money everyday on the traffic.. Pointing it to RonPaul2008.com doesn't make him any money at all.. The only thing it does is help Ron Paul acquire traffic.

And FYI, this guy is a domainer, only domainers buy names on ebay for that kind of money.. A domainer knows the previous owner probably contacted the campaign to sell it. and the campaign didn't buy it.. So why would he pay $25,000 knowing that, unless he was a Ron Paul supporter..

I'm just saying man.. This guy IS a domainer.. And with what he knew, the campaign didn't buy it before, so he knew they wouldn't buy it from him..

You see, these domainers have alot of money.. many of them are millionaires.. I have seen tons of domainers buy names for causes they are interested in. And pay good money just to have the nostalgia of owning the name of something they have great interest in, and keep the name- not to make a profit on it...

I will bet that that's the case here.

Airborn
02-02-2008, 05:24 AM
The guy can do what he wants with it, he paid 25k for it. hell, if I'd paid that kind of money I'd want to make some money off it. Thats if I wasn't a Paul supporter, this guy is redirecting it, making no money, so I'd say he's probley a supporter. Or maybe he bought it thinking if Ron does win, it would be worth alot and he's just helping him out for now.

Of course i hope you are correct. My proposition is that by forwarding it the official site, it will become known as a vaild avenue to the official site. Then one day you through up a porn site and all the people who visit the site through that avenue see nothing but creampies.

Ron Paul didn't buy it from the previous owner since the former owner didn't have anything offensive, and the campaign didn't need it. If something demeaning ended up there after it is known as a valid avenue, the campaign would surely buy it for whatever. It's faster than litigation to save face. And litigation upon a foriegn entity is much more difficult.

It's a worse case scenerio perhaps, but not out of the realm of business.

It is illegal to have a non-porn descriptive domain going to a porn website.. it's against ICANN rules..

And they are very strict on this.. There was an ICANN courtcase on this when whitehouse.com was going to a porn site.. Well google it and see what the result of that case was.. It's illegal dude..

Unless the domain name has obvious sex connotations within it's name, it is illegal for that site to have any pornographic content.. Don't worry about this.

http://www.dnscoop.com/ has it valued at 17k, AlexaRank at 178,161 for number of traffic, it does have spikes in traffic around Nov. 5th and Dec. 16th

ronpaul2008.com has value of $11,546,300, AlexaRank 5,239

Alexa does not show type in traffic figures.. All it shows is the number of links and other data..

Type in traffic is the sole verifier for click through domain traffic., Alexa has been around forever, it's outdated and it's garbage.. I have sold names for $100,000 that Alexa claimed to be worth $6,000..

It's very easy to get a domain name and just pump alexa figures via link placement.. But you CANNOT create top notch type in traffic.. Hence the much higher value for type in traffic.

Not a big deal. I use statcounter for my sites too. I happen to think 25,000 for the domain just to point it to ronpaul2008.com is a waste of money. I think anyone who would have ended up at that site on accident would have quickly realized it wasn't a Ron Paul site and they would have done a search to find the right one.
