I spent the last 2 hours consolidating data in OpenOffice Calc and I finally got it to export the filtered data list. I had to filter the duplicates by Name, Donation Size, and Date, because some people came up on more than one search phrase, and there are over 4500 individual donations.

The bad news is that the filtered list would only export in XHTML format. I posted the file at http://oceanicevolution.com/Photos/contributorDataFile.xhtml

The .XLS file (unsorted, duplicates are still in the file) is at http://oceanicevolution.com/Photos/contributorDataFile.xls

Can someone see if you can get this imported into a spreadsheet and calculate the total donations/donors?

I used somewhere around 20 search phrases, to include Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, USN, DoD, Soldier, USAF, USMC, USN, National Guard, etc. I also went through and deleted all of the obvious false positives (I.E. "Salvation Army" or "Army Civilian.") I kept military spouses in, because the FEC considers a married couple a single legal entity.

compare the numbers to GOP candidates...To beat McCain in military donations would be awesome. That point could be used to convert every conservative vote...As soon as you have the support of the troops, its all over!

dannno
02-01-2008, 07:08 PM
on the duplicates the totals are different, so my total donations should be ok, right?? but if i wanted to see how many people donated, i would have to take out the duplicate names, right??

all those numbers are based off your excel file..

Dr. Paul received more money from soldiers than then next four highest earners COMBINED!!!

Congressman Paul definitely needs to bring that up at a debate the next time Mccain says he knows what the soldiers are saying about the war.

Here's the numbers I got, filtering out the duplicates using manual labor (meh)

Ron Paul: $286764 1349 Donations
McCain : $ 79597 413 Donations
Romney: $ 29250 140 Donations
Huckabee: $ 24562 94 Donations

Obama: $ 81037 466 Donations
Clinton: $ 49523 181 Donations

TOTAL OF ALL OTHERS: $263969 1294 Donations

The donations total does include total number of donations. The number of total donors is less than the total number of donations.
I was very exacting when computing this, and I believe this result to be completely accurate.

I did not manipulate the data at all for duplication or anything else, this graph is from the raw numbers. I can't tell if someone is a duplicate or if they donated several times in one day.

Well it adds up to $2300 so it appears that the totals do add up whether or not they donated 9 time or 1 time and the totals got divided up.

Well it adds up to $2300 so it appears that the totals do add up whether or not they donated 9 time or 1 time and the totals got divided up.OK. That makes sense. Then why did the OP refer to duplicates? The first eight contributions were identical. It doesn't always add up to $2300 either.

Jeff, are these numbers from Q4? Look at the donation dates. Those aren't Q4 dates.

It appears our military backs Ron Paul in the most important issue facing the United States: Terrorism and our foreign policy. For the second time in a row, Ron Paul receives more donations among Republicans. Data for Democrats is not yet available, but Ron Paul crushed Democrats in this statistic last quarter as well.

Ron Paul led in military contributions last quarter as well (http://thespinfactor.com/thetruth/2007/07/17/ron-paul-leads-all-08-candidates-with-one-third-of-military-contributions-for-q2/):

Ron Paul leads ALL ‘08 candidates with over one-fourth of military contributions for Q2 (http://thespinfactor.com/thetruth/2007/07/17/ron-paul-leads-all-08-candidates-with-one-third-of-military-contributions-for-q2/)

Earlier, we reported military contributions among Republican presidential candidates place Ron Paul on top at 49.5% (http://thespinfactor.com/thetruth/2007/07/16/military-support-for-the-republican-candidates/), with nearly as much as all Republicans combined.
A more complete compilation of statistics by Phreadom (http://phreadom.blogspot.com/2007/07/ron-paul-is-most-financially-military.html) shows that presidential candidate Ron Paul leads all 2008 presidential candidates in military contributions from the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and war veterans. Presidential candidate Ron Paul leads with an impressive one-fourth* of all contributions this second quarter according to newly released data from the FEC.
Ron Paul currently has more cash-on-hand than John McCain this quarter, and this new information is indicative of Ron Paul’s success. It appears that our soldiers and war veterans have an affinity to, or inclination for Ron Paul’s non-intervention principle - defending our homeland and pursuing terrorists, but no nation-building.
Military contributions for Q2
Ron Paul 26.23%
Barack Obama 24.02%

If 14 people said U.S. Army they would all be one item on the list.

If 3 People said United States Army, they would all be one item on the list.

Get it?

we need this numbers ironed out and verified asap.

those numbers are good. Even if they're off by 1-3%, what diff could that make? We stomped 'em. MORE than three times more than the runner up (McCain). Actually, I am going to do Obama now, he probably did better than McCain and maybe even beat us. But that wouldn't matter--because we still stomped the pro war Repubs

Here I go on Obama. Be back in 15 minutes with that post hopefully, and hopefully with exciting news.

Show them their frontrunners DO NOT have the soldiers majority support!

Let the campaign write a press release, this will be HUGE to the neocons out there who think Ron Paul is wrong on Iraq. Show them why our military supports Ron Paul.

Ron Paul receives the most military donations among Republicans AGAIN in Q3 (http://thespinfactor.com/thetruth/2007/10/15/ron-paul-receives-the-most-military-donations-among-republicans-again-in-q3/)

This data is sourced from FEC Reports for Q3 (http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q3/) and was compiled here (http://www.jfletch.com/military_q3.zip) by jfletch and RP4.US
*This list uses donators who listed their employer as some variation of Air Force, Army, National Guard, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Retired Vet, Veteran, Civilian Military employee, or Military (no branch indicated). This is preliminary data and may contain insignificant errors.

John McCain 18.31%
Hillary Clinton 11.08%
Bill Richardson 5.59%
Mitt Romney 4.05%
