I want to record a phone call...

I am thinking the best way to do that, is to install a phone program that maybe has that option, but I unaware of any of any.

Can someone help me out?

Buy an old school answering machine if you want to record.

Be aware that state laws differ on the right to do this. Conversations in New York can be recorded by the consent on one individual (yourself). However a lot of states require that both parties are notified and aware of the recording. Recording individuals without their notification or permission may not be admissible in a court.

Cheers!

Your state listed is Colorado.

According to "Can We Tape?" , Consent of One Party is Required, and there ya go.

What state are you calling to?

hmmm.... That funny... let me see...

My phone, My phone bill, My conversation, My recording

I do not care what a law says about me not being able to do this. If there is one, it's unconstitutional, thus, null & void.

Phone skype, don;t you have to pay for that?

I need something that will not charge a monthly fee

Cell phone or landline?

I was going to use my computer, through my mic, If I could find a program. I have a tape recorder made to record phone calls, but no way to transfer over to my computer.

It's someone ELSES conversation too. And you need to know that your rights end where others rights begin. So I repeat, what state are you calling to?

Skype is free

So with Skype, I can call someone, talk through my mic, hear them through my head phones, and record it?

you *should* be able to plug those directly into your computer's microphone jack

then a program like audacity is a good free program to record audio

Why can't you just record it on tape, then play it back while recording it onto computer via microphone?

You're wrong. If I was a undercover cop, would I have to alert the car theif that I was recording our conversation, before I hired him to steal a car for me?

Conversations are private property of whoever is involved. If a party of the conversation decides to record and then leak the conversation, thats his right!

Skype would cost money, my solution should be free...

Right next to where you plug in your headphones, there should be a microphone jack (its on almost 100% of computers)... plug in that device you said you already have, load up audacity, hit record, and make your phone call as normal. It should record everything.

You just pick up the phone and dial...

You hook those devices i mentioned up to your phone.
Then you hook the device into your computer's microphone jack.
You hit record on your computer.
Then you dial and everything is recorded.

You can get one of these from some Radio Shack stores. Just put the jack in your mic-in port on your computer and record it.

you could probably splice into the phone line and send it to a microphone cord, and then the mic input on your computer.

Not sure how to do that, but it seems possible.

From what you have it seems all you need to do is play that tape into your computer and record... You probably need a 1/8th inch mono male to male cable to run from the recorder to your computer

yea just subpoena the phone call from the NSA - they already got you recorded :D

Seriously though - I use one of these:

Very good for a "wearing wire" type situation as well. Very resilliant microphone. Works great for phone calls, you just hold it next to the phone, by the speaker and it will pick everything up great, plus its recorded in digital quality and you just shoot it down to your computer.

Be very careful recording state to state calls, or if there is more than 2 parties on the line. I was in court over these and even admitted to the judge that I recorded the phone conversation between the other party's attorney and myself.

That attorney tried very hard to have me prosecuted, but failed miserably, because I knew the law.

One part of the recordings did get me into trouble, but that is a whole different story, that if I digressed, would truly just raise your anger for our government and especially court systems.

Know the laws - claiming constitution when someone else has a right to privacy is a losing argument unless its been done in your state. Research your states supreme court rulings on this. should be pretty easy to find with Google.

Use GrandCentral to place the call. Currently it's a free service and allows for online recording.

Record your call using your recorder box
Then play the tape into your computer using a 1/8th inch male to male cable. Stereo or mono will probably both work.

Thats it.

This will work if you have a phone jack on your computer: http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/TRx_Personal_Phone_Call_Recorder/trxrecorder.html or http://www.tucows.com/preview/401771
