This is the kind of thing that is killing this country. Sadly it occurs at all levels of government - the obsession of law markets to control all our interactions and to tax any sort of commerce. The thing is - this kind of stuff is so completely pervasive we don't even see it and rarely complain about it and if you do complain you're viewed as a trouble maker. Honest to God I see virtually no difference between the socialist and communist regimes we all grew being told to be so afraid of. In many respects I would argue that places like China and Vietnam are far freer than Americans are to conduct their own affairs. It is isn't jackbooted thugs that bring us facism, it's smug, meddling, self serving bureaucrats.

I have a question and maybe it is naive. I wrote that post about trying to pressure the GOP to give Ron Paul a fair hearing by the American people. Someone wrote that I just don't get it. That the system is fixed and the game is rigged so that we can't win. Not just that they put up so many obstacles that we have little chance, but that system is designed and maintained so a outsider literally CAN NOT win and if an outsider actually did manage to breakthrough to the American people they would either set him up for ruin or assassinate him or do whatever they have to do to make sure only one of their guys takes office. That, no matter what, there is no way someone who bucks the system will be allowed to take the office of the Presidency ever and under any circumstances. My question is this - Do you guys believe this is true?

Is it naive to believe that it is even possible to change things? And if we believe this, why are we going through the motions? Are we just comfortable enough and happy enough with the scraps from the owners tables that we will settle and not even consider the V for Vendetta approach? It just seems to me they have us over a barrel and there is just no way to get off of it. I have never believed there was a cabal of illuminati who control the world and make all the important decision, but the practical reality is that there might as well be since the outcome and the situation is just the same as if there was. They don't have to has secret meetings in hoods with secret hand shakes to control the world. They don't have to make secret agreements.

There is a tacit understanding between the power brokers of the world that keeps things as they always are and with them in control. It seems to me the basic strategy all along and the most effective one is to keep the powerless at each others throats - telling them who to hate and who to fight. All the while reaping the rewards while none of us can even see who is holding the strings. I remember Gore Vidal talking about Nelson Rockefeller and his Presidential aspirations saying "When your father owns the railroad, why on earth would you care about driving the train?" I guess my question all really boils down to this - Is it all really hopeless? I don't mean just Dr. Paul's candidacy. I mean is it futile and hopeless to think we can ever make the world a better and more just and sane place?
