He was not slamming him. He was actually praising him.

MGreen

For Colbert, that was practically an endorsement. How much better can you get than, "This guy has predicted several major events of the last 400 years"?

JAM824A

By saying that Paul made no sense at all, he was parodying the position of having such a stance...

Even though Colbert and Stewart almost certainly support Obama in actuality, they do have a lot of respect for Paul -- even if they don't "cover" him much...

Yeah, Colbert was giving him credit for being right about everything.

If there's anything you can take away from the segment as possibly being a dig, it would be that Colbert was insinuating that he's old. Big deal. :p

Colbert was not insulting Ron Paul. Didn't you understand that as he kept going further back in time and showing Ron Paul, everything he said Ron Paul was saying such as the earth revolves around the sun and don't put hydrogen in a blimp is all TRUE. He was stating that Ron Paul is the only man on that stage who was speaking truth.

When he said you have to swallow that kind of crazy with a glass of water he was referring to the fact that Ron Paul is so full of truth that it is actually crazy to hear it coming out of the republican debate that has been filled with nothing but bullshit.

He chose to air the best response from Paul during yesterday's debate (dealing primarily with our dismal foreign policy and the fallacy of the Iraq War and what it's come to represent) and then edited him in predicting Pearl Harbor, the Hindenburg and the fact that the Earth orbits the sun.

Can't say that's slamming Paul, it was a great segment.

I think that was Stweret who said that.

01-31-2008, 10:47 PM
He showed the clip of Ron Paul at last night's debate speaking out against McCain and Romney over their argument, and then basically went on to say that Ron Paul has been saying this 'crazy' stuff for a while now (this is sarcasm people, learn to understand it). He went on to show an edited clip of Ron Paul as if he had predicted the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor, saying, again, that it was one of Paul's 'crazy' moments, and later showed an edited clip of 1633 I believe it was, of Ron Paul saying that the Earth revolved around the Sun, again as if it was a 'crazy' moment.

People, the Japanese did bomb Pearl Harbor, and the Earth does revolve around the sun. He was basically saying that if what Ron Paul was saying at the debates is crazy, then those things are also crazy (which they are not). Basically saying that Ron Paul is speaking the truth.

It's a satirical show. Learn to love it. He just praised Ron Paul

It was not a hit piece...Colbert is a satirist. If anything it was meant to help Ron Paul get out of this ridiculous "crazy" label.

He played the clip of RP last night saying "we are wasting time on technicalities"....to Colbert and his viewer-ship it is obvious that McCain and Romney were just wasting time.

So Colbert did was he did best and MOCKED the idea that McCain (and so many others) keep calling RP crazy. He did it by making a montage of videos that made Ron Paul look crazy while he was actually predicting events that really happened (like Pearl Harbor).

The crowd loved it...I hope a lot of people watch the show and get the joke.

That was one of the best episodes I've seen. Even without writers Colbert was on a roll. The rational irrationality book interview was pure comedy.

Then the Ron Paul clip was the closest any candidate will get to an endorsement by the show - they showed him as being called crazy for always being right.

Then the judge talking about constitional powers, how bush has been limiting freedoms, and how the people are sheep being led around.

If you have usenet it should be posted in alt.binaries.multimedia.late-night-talkshows within a few hours. ( I don't see it yet, or I'd post a .nzb file)

My God people are stupid. Colbert does satire. If you don't understand that then you're one of the people who should be reading Judge Napolitano's book. It's amazing how so many people here call non Ron Paul supporters ignorant sheep, yet they actually think Colbert is being serious when he is just playing a character. A thread like this comes up everytime Colbert seems to poke fun at Ron Paul and I just don't understand it.

He's a snake, only interested in Democrap propaganda. I used to watch and love his show for all the Bush-bashing. I didn't connect the dots until his campaign coverage got in full swing and he INSISTED on never admitting Ron Paul existed, even if Rachel Maddow would mention him, or if he did well in a poll. The only mentions he's made of Ron that I know of since I quit watching was to say he was a 'far-right' guy, which is not only stupid to say, but also intended to be interpreted as 'crazy warmonger poor-people-hater.'

Perhaps someone could send a mail and poke fun at colbert losing his spot on the bestseller list to a book that isn't even out yet. would be an excellent pretext to get Ron on "The report" and even though he might not cover a very republican audience. still it's media and It'll make some splash? bet that colberts character will be seriously pissed about losing his spot to a unreleased book.

I couldn't tell you if it was on the site at the time I posted, I was busy. Just pointing ya'll to a resource, my apologies ;)

After watching the video however, that's a Colbert endorsement. He started with Dr. Paul speaking about foreign policy at the most recent debates to "going back through time" when he was telling everyone, "the Earth goes around the Sun." The next guest comes on to have a discussion about his book which is about logic.

Man, how can some people not get his satire? He and his writers are some of the most brillian satirists ever!!

If just HALF of Ron's MySpace Friends (which would be 60,000) each donated $51, Ron Paul would receive 3 million dollars today.
We can't be happy with anything less.
No excuses.
At this pace we are not looking at 3 million

Dedicate some time right now to promote the money bomb.

At least we got the heliocentric thing from him.

I mean...
It's nice to know that Ron Paul believes SOMETHING ELSE is the center of the universe....
Unlike McCain and Romney who only believe in themselves...
And Huckabee that swears that the center of the universe is a book of battle hungry war mongers, a jealous god of wrath and hatred, and a desire to make it illegal to believe anything but what they book says....

I'm happy to support the crazy candidate that believes the world is round.
It's a pity that the first to speak out are ignored and shunned.

But slowly, the ships set sail, and one day...
Soon...

We'll find the new land.

I just hope we find it without another war forcing us to flee in search of sancuary across the seas...

Perhaps he is coming around? I have been waiting for those two to pick up on the beauty of Ron Paul. Colbert deserves a bunch of thank you emails. He helped us a lot tonight.

seriously...
click on home if you don't see it.

ps.
it can be slooooow.

That was great!

Scroll down and you will see 'ron paul sounds the alarm'. It's the second segment. The first segment is on the mccain/romney fight lol.

Very funny.

His reference to Ron Paul saying 'the earth moves around sun' refers to the story of Galileo who in 1633 was forced by the Church to recant his belief that the earth moved around the sun. The Church insisted that the earth was a fixed body which did not move, and was, indeed, the center of the universe. Legend says that although Galileo recanted as he was forced to, he muttered under his breath, "and yet it moves."

Comparing Ron Paul to the mathematician, physicist, and philosopher Galileo is as high a compliment as anyone can get. :)

Colbert makes the statement:

"Ron Paul had to put his two dollar bill on the table"

Anyone know whose picture is on the two dollar bill?

That's right, Thomas Jefferson. :D

To be frank.. I don't know how you could not think Colbert is in the business of satire... and STILL support Ron Paul...

The problem with Colbert is that a LOT of people don't know he's joking, and they get their views from him.

There are people that call Bill O Reilley "papa bear" and like Mike Huckabee because of Colbert's joking

You do know his whole show is based on making fun of Bill O'reilly right?

He was not slamming him. He was actually praising him.

+1

I never understood Colbert until I did a small research. I once thought myself that he was annoying; but his show is really a sarcastic parody of the O'Reilly Show. You can see that in the first part of yesterday where he makes both McCain and Romney ridiculous that they are acting that the word "Timetable" is forbidden.

So Colbert really is a parody on the O'Reilly show, yet I still don't think Colbert is amazingly funny. He is however a fake-neocon.

The whole show really was like an unofficial endorsement in my opinion. They had not only this segment but an author of a book who talked about how people don't use logic to vote which is our largest roadblock and of course they had the Judge (a known Paul supporter) talking about his book A Nation of Sheep which led to him calling Stephen, "Bill". I took that as he must have debated this point with Bill O quite often :)

I don't know man. I didn't see where the humor was in that. You'd have to really try hard to believe he's being sarcastic there. Colbert's a liberal lefty, is he not?

If he's only being sarcastic and he actually likes Paul, it's going to be hard for some people to have picked up on that.

Only my opinion.

This was so funnnnny...Colbert is always like that. It's very easy for people to pick up that he likes Paul because he usually disagrees ON PURPOSE with someone who he LIKES and vice versa.

This is not a hit-piece. If you watch Colbert a lot you would know :)

I think anyone with a decent amount of knowledge would recognize this as sarcasm. Colbert's audience has some knowledge, or they wouldn't get his jokes and wouldn't watch. So I'm pretty sure that most people who saw this understood. Colbert is pointing out that throughout history, when people speak a truth that's not ready to be understood, or seems farout, they're painted crazy. It's a shame that this is still true today.

Anyway, funny skit. But like Colbert said, it's really sad.

ALSO
This is great. Colbert's whole show is a parady of the neocon O'reilly type shows. Anyone who would view this as negative would never be interested in this satire show. Watch a few other episodes, or watch this whole episode to see how it works!
