View Full Version : "If you google ron paul" video: unfit for top billing at ronpaul2008.com?

Does anyone else feel that the "If you google ron paul" video that shows up first on the Ron Paul campaign site is not a good choice for top billing? Every day, more and more people are going to be curious to learn more about Ron... that video just screams amateur. Frankly, the song and the singing are pretty crappy. It's a great fan vid, and deserves to be seen plenty o' times on YouTube, but come on -- front page material? The first Ron Paul video that you should see? I dunno. I sent HQ an email urging them to change it.

Well is it a bad thing that people might see that "amateurs" are making videos about Ron Paul? Now maybe it shouldn't be first, but ultimately if everything is professional and polished to the extreme then we just look like the other guys...

Good call! First impressions are important after all.
The new YouTube videos from this week might be good for the home page. not that I have any say in it.

that's one of the few ron paul videos that I've seen that I didn't like ... no offense to the creator or the singer but it just is not very good

I think it could be cut down to a 3 min song or something...I think it's like 12 min now though....I've wondered why there isn't a section of the site that has Ron Paul talking about specific issues.
Like Abortion, watch this video.
Economics, watch this video.
Gun Control, watch this video..etc... each one about two or three min....so people can watch exactly what they want....go strait to their important issue.

You can argue about the song or the singer sucking; BUT THAT SONG IS DAMN CATCHY. Seriously, I hated it at first but the damn thing has been stuck in my head ALL FREAKING WEEK.

The campaign does a great job of making stupid videos. The top billing video should always be something like "Freedom is Popular." You need a five to seven minute video of Ron Paul brilliance that outlines his refreshing freedom-loving philosophy. And then after that some longer speeches with more briliance. Save the stupid videos with no substance for the bottom of the barrel so that the ardent supporters who want to see every last video can see them. We are trying to win over new people to the Ron Paul freedom train and the campaign is getting in the way.

hey, i agree wholeheartedly that amateurs should make videos... that's what makes this campaign work. Amateurs are going to put him into office! :)

This is true....very true.
I don't think the song sucks or anything...it's like a jingle...but LONG....so it's a little to catchy to be a full blown song....but it does the trick....

I think it should be cut into an entirely different song and the old song be thrown into the fires of Mordor...

Yes, I agree. Nice catchy song. No problem with that. I have a problem with all the headlining videos that don't show us Ron Paul's essence.

It will eventually be buried as new videos appear. I feel a little bad trashing their efforts, but c'mon - not every composition is a hit to the outfield.
It might be salvageable, if they'd cut the intro down to about 20 seconds and re-recorded the song with a chorus of singers.

Yes, yes! Polite requests for them to get their act together. I fear that the official campaign is the weak link in the triad of Dr. Paul, the official campaign, and the grass roots.

The information in the video is good, but the song is god awful. If they just cut down the first part of him walking on the Google campus, it would do away with a lot of it.

If Paul only had 5 youtube videos I might be more concerned, but any youtuber worth his or her salt will browse and watch what they like and stop watching what they don't like.
There's plenty of variety to choose from in Ron Paul related videos!
Freedom is a wonderful thing, people can decide what they wish to watch!

Agreed. People can get all up in arms over how it's not cool to want to "censor" supporters of Ron Paul. However, when you consider what the video is for, and what it's purpose is, I refuse to succumb to such relativist notions that "all videos for Ron Paul are equal." No they are not. They are certainly all equal in sentiment and should ALL be welcome, but they're hardly all equal in quality.
That "Google Ron Paul," song is in my humble opinion, hilariously bad. The video itself isn't that much better. Again, not saying that it should be taken down or banned, but top billing? Is it really that good to earn such a spot?

I like it. It's tune stuck in my head and it covered many of Ron"s points. I guess I'm not tuned in. But guess what I google Ron Paul all the time to learn more.
I think this is a irrelevant post overall.
Don't bother HQ with a silly request because you don't believe they should have a video on their site that you don't approve of....I mean, with a skeleton crew already, do you REALLY need to waste their time with something so meaningless?
Go make a sign or something productive.

I think billing might be the wrong word, it may actually be sorted by views, date or some other criteria we are unaware of...
But, really, if people curious enough to browse Paul's campaign site can't make it passed that particular video by skipping it or whatever, well...I certainly don't think they are going to be able to handle the notion of free individuals expressing themselves in a free society very well at all.
Think of that video as a "toughening up" process, callousing them up to be able to handle the contest of freedom.
Just like those veal calves escaping their small pens, these moon calves need to get out and breathe the air of freedom and strut around the barnyard!

For the psychological impact of that song sticking in the head new people viewing it, I like it. Many people with a passing interest in Ron Paul lurking on the site who view that video, will have that song stuck in their brain for a while. They will keep the urge to find out more information about RP, which is a good thing.
Now, will you please stop posting, If You Goggle Ron Paul posts? Every time I see them, that song gets stuck back in my brain. Thank you.

I wholeheartedly believe it is relevant. I had been pumping my brother-in-law to check out Ron Paul. Low and behold the day he checks out the tubesite he loses interest halfway thru the video because of the cheesy amateurish song and goes back to searching for videos of people falling down. Not dissing the song, I just think its not generally encompassing enough. I think a video with more a modern not so folkish taste would make more sense since the whole root of the campaign is just sit thru one good video and let Ron Paul's message sink its hooks into your moralistic fiber and you know its just right, and I'd hate for someone not to hang on just long enough for that to happen.
....and I eventually talked him into watching the Stop Dreaming video and he loved it.

There's no accounting for taste.
The video is very grass roots and has some interesting conversations, the song is silly but it's not obscene by any stretch of the word.
It's easy to make excuses about not liking something, especially when everyone wants to be entertained American Idol style.

I would rather listen to the screeching cry of the Nazgul with my head inside their mouth.
Seriously bad is bad.
If RP were dancing the calypso in a tutu I would say, "Hey RP, you like like a fruity moron, stop it."
So I feel compelled to say, "Stop playing this song from the hall of broken records."
Surely someone can write a decent 1-4-5 chorded song put to a 12 year olds lyrics and sound better.
Sorry, but Simon Cowell would have a field day with that song.

Yes, but unfortunately, all 145,950 viewers of that video have since become registered with the American Fascist Party and will be voting for Guiliani because of the song. Oh, the humanity!
