Volunteering for a campaign is one way to help out a candidate. Many North Dakotans are also giving money to presidential candidates, too. On the Republican side, people in our state are giving the most money to Ron Paul. On the Democratic side, it`s Barack Obama.

Democratic volunteer Mylo Candee says the almost $11,000 from North Dakota supporters shows Barack Obama`s ideas are resonating with the state`s voters.

"What really struck me is that Senator Obama has made a real commitment to a red state and that`s a sign of respect that North Dakota doesn`t usually get," says Candee.

And on the Republican side, presidential candidate Ron Paul has received well over $6000. The campaign coordinator says that`s because North Dakotans are ready to go back to traditional Republican values.

"He doesn`t have deep pockets," says Charlene Nelson, Ron Paul State Campaign Coordinator. "He doesn`t have these huge billionaire donations coming in. These are people like you and me, who have $30, $40, $50 to give to a man that they hope will be in the White House in November."

Both Candee and Nelson say they expect their candidates to win the North Dakota caucuses. Those campaign money statistics came from the Federal Election Commission outlined on www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/map.
