Assuming that the candidates get about 85 minutes to speak after commercials and questions, what do you think the breakdown will be for speaking time?

My predication:
Romney 35 minutes
McCain 25 minutes
Huckabee 15 minutes
Paul 10 minutes

In the last debate Romney and McCain spoke about the same amount of time (I kept tallys), Rudy was a little less, with Huck a little ways behind, and RP all the way at the bottom.

I believe that's fairly accurate when compared to the previous debate.

Then again, how long is this one?

2 minutes

They'll give him 60 secs to answer a conspiracy type question, and then 60 more if he's going to run as an Independent!

Using the OP's total time of 85 mins, let's see... 85/4 = 9 mins for Ron Paul, minus 5 mins for the two standard conspiracy and 3rd party questions.

That brings us to 4 mins of total RP time. If he gives great answers in that 4 mins, during the replay of the debate, he'll be cut to 30 secs.

Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee need to make sure from the get-go that they don't take any short answers and both push for equal time.

I posted this on another forum:

Must be one of those days......

Watch out at tonights debate:

McCain- 1 hour 30 minutes
Romney- 25 minutes
Huckabee- 4 minutes
Paul- 1 minute ("Will you run as a 3rd Party Candidate?")

I will bet 2-1 that he gets twice the speaking time then any other debate!

I also bet he shocks a few by slinging some mud to draw media time as well.
As long as he keeps getting 30 seconds to retort it will add up tonight.

He has ran 12 times and won 10....

Not luck. He has only two to deal with and the GOP fears the damage. Then he can shift into 3rd (3rd party that is).
It starts today. We will see all the reasons RP is in front!

Maybe ANderson Cooper will be a little more fair than the others.

McCain 30
ROmney 30
Huckabee 20
Paul 10

if he want time to talk, he's going to have to demand it. butt-in, demand a chance to rebutt, run over to mccain and push him away from the mic.. whatever it takes.

McCain- 31 min
Romney- 29 min
Huckabee- 17 min
Paul- 8 min

RP had 6:30 mins last debate, he was never asked a question by another candidate.
Anderson Cooper will give him the extra question and allow a 90 sec answer.

4 questions @ 90 sec + 4 rebuttals @ 30 sec= 8 minutes

Don't delude yourselves into thinking that less candidates means more air time at the debates for RP. That extra time is reserved for 1st tier candidates who can win the nomination.

Why doesn't Ron just take the god damn time!!!!

He talks so fast and never has a rebuttel!!!

Its all about clock management now, its the 4th quarter!!! I really wish that he would call the other guys out and bait them into an arguement. I can't stand when he waits for 20 minutes only to talk for 1 min. He can keep talking and talking like Romney and he has to make them shut him up.

He who talks the most wins...its that simple!

You forgot the 30 second question "Why do you hate old people?"
also the 30 second question "Since you are not a republican, why are you on this stage - being so unelectable and all?"

and dont forget the "Why do you hate our troops?"

Senator McCain, as the obvious frontrunner, you will have the first question.
You have 60.. minutes to respond.
A question about UNelectability... do you have any sir? It seems not.
*babbles on and mentions romney once*

Governor Romney, you have a 30 minute rebuttal followed buy a 20 minute followup question
*babbles on and mentions huckabee once*

Mike Huckabee, 9.9 minutes to rebuttal and discuss why Jesus supports you

last question of the night, Ron Paul, you have 2 seconds to respond
Why are you so racist?
"Well I..."

LMAO at the Huck and RP parts...:D:D:D:D

Instead of "Why are you so racist?" it should be...

Ron Paul, "Do you support Communism?"

Paul: "I..."

I am expecting the worst but hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I fear the only way it could be "fair" is if the Paul campaign were to buy all the commercial breaks.

HAHAHAHAHA... oh thats a good one. Name one debate so far that has been fair to Dr. Paul.

Umm, let's see....

1. NAACP/PBS Debate
2. Value Voters Debate
3. Des Moines Register (Iowa) Debate (shown on PBS)
4. ABC NH Debate on January 5

seriously, 3 hours?

JMO

My TV guide shows 2 hours long.

Is Rudy still going to be in the debate? That isn't right if he is because its like him being a team with Mccain. He has nothing positive to offer in the debate because he will just be taking up the time of real candidates. Absolutely no reason to ask a candidate who withdrew a question.
