"The federal government has been involved in infrastructure for a long time, even from the very beginning. Now I could devise a theoretical free society where you still would even [not] have the federal government doing much of anything even that. But conceding the fact that we've been involved in infrastructure for a long time. Just think of what's happened here in the last couple days. The government of course is in charge of our highways and our bridges. But we had a terrible disaster yesterday - a bridge crate caved in, they say 60,000 bridges if not more than that are in the same situation. And I would say government doesn't do a very good job building bridges. But you know the problem is they don't have enough money to look after things like that. Where is the money going? Well first we buy airplanes and bombs and helicopters and then we go over and bomb other bridges and then we go and we build their bridges back up again. So my suggestion is don't bomb their bridges don't rebuild their bridges - let's take care of our own bridges right now."

- Ron Paul during the rally in Pittsburgh August 3, 2007

I was perusing the most popular Youube video's just an hour ago or so. The bridge video's are uber hot and quite popular right now. For anyone who is tech savvy here, it would be a good idea to make a vid of what Bush said about the bridge and what RP said about the bridge and post it.

I would but I am not that tech savvy :-(

That would be great if somebody could do that. I don't know if there's any video of the pgh rally up yet (there were tons of cameras there so it's only a matter of time) but if anybody wants to do it using just the audio it's located 24 minutes in.

Yeah, MSM seems to be laying the blame at state government, but glosses over the larger issue of all those tax dollars and other monies being expended overseas in a very questionable war.

Once again, people are "encouraged" to think that state governments are weak and ineffectual so we must have a stronger and more active federal government to take action and protect us.

And, to some degree, state governments are weak and ineffectual, solely because of their loss of sovereignty and the lack of political focus from their citizens who are constantly gazing at the federal monstrosity.

Bush remarks on bridge. I'm sure there are plenty of stupid bridge remarks to show in contrast to RP's bridge remarks

Ron's quote is better. It mentions why we're building bridges in Iraq, because we spend just as much if not more money bombing and destroying them in the first place.

the I35 bridge is a keystone of the NAFTA superhighway to Canada, now we can let the American taxpayer rebuild it before we let the King of Spains, Cintras Concessionaires and Rudys Texas lawfirm build the superhighway from Mexico to Canada and tax Americans with tolls. Guess what, its a public company and we are broke so if the world markets crash, buy some shares, we are selling out to global elites.

I've seen links in the past day or two where RP wrote about this in 2005...anyone able to locate them? There was just a lie on Lou Dobbs by 'the American Society of Civil Engineers' that 'none of the candidates have made infrastructure an issue,' which in Ron Paul's case is false. I'd like to have that link and alert people to this lie.

Here it is:

Ron Paul is always ahead of his time.

Here's a quote from a speech made by Ron Paul in April 2005:
"Today it’s easier to get funding to rebuild infrastructure in Iraq than to build a bridge in the United States."

kudos to Vineyard Views for this quote.

Great info, you should consider a career in politics. ;)

One of the reasons I have "faith" in my philosophy, is that I am constantly being reinforced by affirmations from actual reality.

I am sure people like Ron Paul and all lovers of freedom feel the same.

At the end of the day, it's nice to know you are rational.

Even when delusion is so very enticing.

Despite living in the Twin Cities and even having driven within a couple blocks of that bridge coming back from my Thurs night Meetup, I hadn't watched the vid. I just now saw it and wished I hadn't. We all still have to go places and the odds are miniscule that a bridge will collapse when I am on it. I have a much better chance of getting killed in a regular auto accident, yet I still drive.

Life is dangerous and there are no guarantees.

Btw, every single politician around here is making a fool of himself over this. We've had traffic accidents kill more people. This is no Katrina.

In a way it's worse than Katrina. Katrina was a natural disaster. This bridge thing appears to be a pure example of the incompetence of brand America. What a humiliating statement about the state of our nation. I bet there's a lot of first world folks in Europe and other places, who are quietly stifling giggles at our embarassing display of ineptitude, and societal rot.
